Trans-Vallarta Enduro: Photos, Report and Results

Mar 12, 2018
by Nicolas Switalski

For its first edition, Trans-Vallarta Enduro hosted riders from six different nationalities who had their riding, fitness and navigation skills tested on 16 stages along a three-day racing journey through the Mexican Sierra Madre Occidental, a mountain system connected with the Rocky Mountains.

Camp life, arriving on day one to the beautiful "Hacienda Jalisco" in San Sebastian del Oeste

A race that started and finished in the tropical paradise of Puerto Vallarta, México. Having our base camp in the magical and UNESCO protected towns of San Sebastian del Oeste and Mascota, towns with a lot of history where you can still breath the Mexican country culture and traditions from back in the day. These two villages had recently gained some International fame for its rowdy, physical and steep mountain bike trails with a great variety of terrain.

Dinner's ready

Day One Begins! San Sebastian del Oeste

Cory Sullivan tackling the first stage of the day

Marcos Balbuena
Jeremiah Bradshaw

Leigh Bowe was here straight from Andes Pacifico

Yuri Bogner from Brazil

Rafa Abreu from Venezuela

Yefra Ram from Oaxaca finishing the stage

Arriving to San Sebastian del Oeste's main Plaza to refuel

Trevor Martin

Camp No. 2

Arriving to camp late in the afternoon just in time for dinner, long day for everyone

Day 2: Mascota

Johny Salido the local boy full on mode battling with the top guys for a spot on the podium

Becky Gardner suffered a bad crash but finished the race despite the pain she was in!

Raicilla anyone? This agave plant is from what raicilla the local beverage is made, it is similar to tequila!

Heat and exhaustion began to take it's toll on riders!

Ryan Gardner charging through the famous "Intrepida" trail, last trail of the day and a physical one!

Day 3: Puerto Vallarta

The last day we did a 3-hour shuttle traverse through the Sierra crossing several peaks, rivers and canyons from Mascota to the top of the mountains in Puerto Vallarta to finally race down to the beach where we had a fully Mexican style award ceremony and some of the best traditional fish tacos!

Arriving at the beach!!!

And the winners are...

Leigh Bowe filled the Women Podium on the top, followed by Becky Gardner and Sienna Martin sitting on third place. These girls did an amazing race and also knew how to keep the party on for the entire trip.

The PRO Men were the most interesting guys to follow during this 3-day blind race, having Ryan Gardner out of the Podium by a major Mechanical and giving the chance to Corey Sullivan to take the hot seat followed by the Mexican talent Johny Salido and Ted Morton on third.

We raced honoring our friend Robert, founder of the ENVA (Enduro Vallarta) trail system who unfortunately passed away after strongly fighting against Cancer! Robert will be always in our hearts and we will always share the ride with him!

Cory Sullivan 1st, the local Johny Salido 2nd, and Ted Morton 3rd

David Peman 1st, Todd Branham 2nd and Cameron Piercy 3rd
Dave Sutton 1st, Yuri Bogner 2nd and Brett Kreyche 3rd

Leigh Bowe 1st, Becky Gardner 2nd and Sienna Martin 3rd

Thanks so much for the big support of our staff and volunteers also the brands who believed in our projects: Rocky Mountain Bikes Mexico, The North Face Mexico, Bikexstore, SDG components, Flat tire Defender, Feedback Sports, EHEC Riders, RedBull, Bikes&More and Poc México.

I've ridden in PV a few times. Trails are challenging, dusty, hot, demanding. Some great guide services down there too - Ecoride Mexico comes to mind. If you're in Puerto Vallarta for a vacation, rent a bike and give the trails a try.
