@jeremystclair: I'm old enough to think that my chances get better the older I get and the more contests I don't win.

Must you have colored spokes to ride in Brevard?

@ultimatist: It's illegal to not ride I9s in Brevard.
  • 1 0
@NoDHinKentucky: Factor is making a dent in the market.
  • 1 0
@manglermixer: I ride down there a handful of times a year. I know the area well (Thanks in large part to the Hub and Squatch) but if you do have such a list and are willing to share it I'll bring you some flying dog beer!

@ultimatist: to be fair, have so many west coast transplants around here it's staggering.
  • 3 0
@preach: I hear you, I grew up in Atlanta, and most folks are out of towners now. The funny thing is the Bay Area is still full. Not sure why we don't feel the "everyone is leaving" trend here...

$500 for travel expenses means you better be close to North Carolina or you'll be flying Spirit. Choose wisely when entering this giveaway!
  • 1 3
This isn't how airline pricing works *facepalm*

I'll take the $500 for gas for my van so I don't have to share a pressurized cabin with anti-vax lunatics who are likely to try to open the cabin door while at cruising altitude.
  • 10 9
@sngltrkmnd: They downvote you, yet it just happened 4 days ago. People are nuts.(can't confirm whether they're anti-vax or not, but whatev)
  • 1 0
and you'll have to carry-on your enduro bike
  • 5 4
@sngltrkmnd: Domestic flights are fine. Would rather sit on a plane with those lunatic "anti-vaxxers" (lol) than drive 870 miles in a stanky van....but, to each's own.
  • 3 0
I live in NC 200 miles away and with the price of gas I will need the $500 to get there and back!
  • 1 0
@Koz1985: You obviously haven’t seen (nor smelled) my concours-ready 90s Toyota van. Wink

Nothing to see here, the trails are flat as all the Floridians that crowd them, rains all the time, covid is rampant as wildfire, nothing to eat other than fast food, Oskar blues sold to Budweiser, just a armpit of a place, take your tourism dollars elsewhere.
  • 2 0
I second this statement. Better off just going down the road to Knoxville.....
  • 10 0
I can rest easy knowing two of Levy's friends will be enjoying a free bike trip to Brevard

Agreed (and laughing...also goes for everywhere else here too) but I think you'd also agree: Ft. Lauderdale: strip club, frat boy, and cocaine capital (among 25 others) in Florida. I'll take the Gentral.

When the Bellinghamsters inevitably show up, you’ll make friends and get a tour in this neck of the woods.

You get to wait in a long line of super rich douchebags talking about their mega-expensive e-bikes and how they gained freedom in the outdoors with 10% added lithium ion power & how they could have never made it that last mile without it & act like they didn't realize you couldn't ride it here bro!

This shortly after they were overheard loudly bragging to their bro bro's in their lifted Raptor about the 6 IPA's they ripped pre-ride.

Oh...and you still get to wait roughly an hour to get out of the forest on 276, but now you can do it with a smug arrogance knowing it's all paid for by Explore Brevard (it'll be as if you are actually one of the trust fund bro bro's).

Plus...you'll be able to afford an extra IPA post ride.
  • 2 0
@blowmyfuse: Who drives 276? North Mills is the place to be. #northmillssucks
  • 1 0
@pisgahgnar: shut that mouth right up. NMR blows.
  • 2 0
@SketchyD: before North Mills was sanitized by trail dozers and people who stack rocks on flat ground
  • 1 0
@blowmyfuse: GRP raw and rugged is where it's at

Waiting for the obligatory and original "the riding sucks here, try Colorado" comment.
  • 18 0
If you like gnar, you should know all the natural trails have recently been sanitized into flow trails. If you like flow trails, you should know all of Pisgah is far too rough for you. I hear the Front Range has all goods, better book your ticket to Denver now!
  • 1 1
@Lokirides: I'm actually curious, growing up skiing just north, but never having MTBed in Asheville. Brevard=flow and Pisgah=chunky? Is there anything in NC that has a variety of trails in one place?
  • 4 0
@ultimatist: More along the lines of Dupont=Flow and Pisgah=Chunky, that is the general sentiment anyway. Brevard is just sandwiched between the two and it is actually closer to a good chunk Pisgah than Dupont.

flag blowmyfuse (Feb 23, 2022 at 6:10) (Below Threshold)
@yerfdogtnarg: you've not ridden the completely re-routed & sanitized Black Mountain (you can literally pedal up all of Black casually now) & now the completely sanitized lower sections of Bennet Gap that have popped up.

Oh, and the top of Buckwheat Knob was also sanitized.

Yeah...if you ride in Pisgah now and don't see signs of shovel or dozer, let me know. I want to ride that.
  • 2 0
@blowmyfuse: lol yes I have ridden new black and just about every other trail in Pisgah as I live here. If you read my comment I said that was the general sentiment, not that every trail in Pisgah is chunky. Pisgah is generally chunkier than Dupont. You are right there are more sanitized and flow trails in Pisgah than there used to be. Unfortunately people do have to use shovels to maintain trails so I do not think that I will be able to send you to any trails anywhere? There are plenty of unmapped trails if you are live in the area that are certainly less maintained that you can ride. Yes it is different, sometimes it is worse, but all those things you mentioned were done to keep the FS from closing those trails down completely.
  • 1 1
@yerfdogtnarg: that's a sale pitch from the trail companies. Picture this...what would happen if the F.S. "closed" Black and had "closed" Fletcher Creek.

Simple answer is...they wouldn't. It would screw them royally.

If Forest Service really cared about erosion, the very first thing they'd do is shut down those "unmapped" trails, but they haven't. It's a lie we're sold. Pisgah National Forest Service doesn't give a crap about the condition of trails.

It's all just trail crews and trail clubs selling that crap so they can ride more tame crap than we can ride technical stuff.

Do you have to travel on a Tuesday if you win?
  • 4 2
Does anyone actually win these trips? I don't recall them ever posting who the winner is for the other trips they have listed before. Entered anyway, as they say you got to be in it to win it.

How would we be able to tell among the sea of Floridians storming our trails?

I won the trip to Sun Valley a couple years back. Can confirm the trip was amazing and actually happened.
  • 5 1
The snow will still be here. Best go elsewhere
  • 2 2
So when is the best time of year to ride there? I took my family for a week in late May last year and it was awesome. I was told we got lucky that only rained half the time we were there. When is the best weather for riding?
  • 2 0
 Middle of January....
  • 1 0
It's a rain forest. Just don't go in July or August. Too hot.
  • 1 0
Should probably ride Moab. Way less crowded.

Was confused that they don't request an email or anything to contact the winner, but appears from the T&C you need to be logged into your PB account
