Update III

The Trek drip feed has finally run dry and the final rider on their books has been revealed - Reece Wilson. With his podium in Fort William backed up with a 7th in Val di Sole, Reece was one of the breakout riders of last year and will be hoping to prove it was no fluke. Reece last raced on the Session in 2016 as part of the Unior Tools team, so it's a set up he should be fairly familiar with to hit the ground running.

bigquotesI heard early in the year that Trek had a new program in the works and it sounded exactly what I was after. It felt right in my head and even better in my heart, so it really was a no brainier. Feels like home. After getting a taste for the top 10 last year I really want to become a consistent top 10 guy this year. The buzz of the podium last year was unreal so I’m definitely keen to relive that.Reece Wilson

So finally we have the full roster, Wilson, Harrison, Edwards and Shandro. Wilson is the oldest at 22 meaning it's a young but massively exciting team for Trek in 2019.

Third on the roster for Trek Factory Racing Downhill is Charlie Harrison, who returns to the brand after riding for them as a junior. Chuck moves over from Intense and will be hoping to pick up from a season that saw him establish himself as a top 20 rider before bagging his first top 10 in Mont Sainte Anne.

bigquotesOver the last few years of racing World Cups full time, I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve learnt a great deal about myself, about racing in general, and I’ve learnt a lot about teams and the people I want to be working with. Having worked with Trek in the past, I know exactly how they handle themselves, how they go about research and development, and how they push to get results, both for themselves and for their riders. When I would ask myself who I wanted to be working with or what my ideal inner circle was, it would always come back to being Trek. I really value and appreciate their professionalism, their clean image, and their work ethic. Not to mention, through my previous years of riding for Trek, I had established awesome relationships with the people there that I really valued and respected.Charlie Harrison

Only one more Trek announcement to go now...

Update:

Next up in the Trek Factory Racing Downhill tease-a-thon is Ethan Shandro and it's no surprise that he's pretty handy on a bike as he's the son of North Shore legend (and Trek rider) Andrew. Ethan steps up as a first year junior but he's already got some pretty strong results under his belt in the form of Crankworx, BC Cup and NW cup youth wins. Ethan's goal for racing is apparently to "have more fun than everyone while riding my bike fast," while also having "the most fire outfits during course walk." Fashion fans and trolls, be ready.

Previously

Last week, Trek announced the creation of the all-new Trek Factory Racing Downhill team that will be owned and operated by Trek. Today, they announced the first of the four riders who will be racing on the team in 2019. That would be 2018 Junior World Champions Kade Edwards.

Trek says that the roster includes three elite riders and one junior rider and the team will focus on the UCI World Cup Downhill circuit and select regional and national races... The next rider will be announced this coming Wednesday. Who will it be?

First of 4?! just put it out there already. Unless the rest 3 are Travis Pastrana, Chuck Norris, and the great Evel Kenevil himself, NOBODY CARES!

advertisers do.... which makes me torn, love the free content, but lately there seems to be too much intentional traffic-generating design

@Aaronhuang : ehh I disagree I find it pretty cool it gives me something to look forwards to during this off season! its pretty interesting! lighten up and let the rest of us have some fun.

@robwhynot: yep they are really milking the tire sealant out of these team rumours/changes this season. I like just cut and dry x rider is leaving/ y rider is signed
  • 59 2
Yet we're all here clicking and commenting.
  • 7 3
 Agreed. Barely a f*#k given.
  • 38 6
pinkbike should refuse to publish this garbage, just wait until the whole team is announced and post something then please
  • 86 1
*marketing experiment- nobody post any responses for the 3 remaining reveal articles.
  • 5 2
ugh... I hope these guys put out better content once the season starts.

If Trek had announced all four signings separately when they actuality signed the riders would you be upset?
Looking forward to seeing the outrage when they announce the 2nd rider and great to see them putting a big team out there.
  • 25 6
Show some respect. These young athletes have earned a spot on a big team. You land a Trek factory sponsorship, that's a big freakin' deal. Congrats to Kade and TBDs. You guys are living the dream!

 hahahah fuck yeah
  • 11 1
I guess I see the other side, where it feels like Trek is the one disrespecting these guys by milking the signing to the nth degree for click count and brand impressions. I get that sponsorship is a two way street. It this blatant social media marketing 101 disguised as hype and suspense, poorly disguised at that.
  • 6 1
Are they going to announce it is the egg from Instagram is the fourth rider? LOL. Maybe that will help with with the algorithm for online traffic.
  • 1 0
@juliodh: ta agitando ai barrão! kkkk
  • 1 0
 @linguica: ahahahahah aaaaau
  • 4 3
Good, they're done know. Luckily the information was already given on the main page so there was no need to click on the intermediate articles to see if there's any news. Looking at their picture, even they seem bored. Maybe Trek should just cut the crap and actually give them a bike to ride instead of just clothes, helmet and a stupid ball game.
  • 141 3
This whole teaser style team release is painfully slow and played out. Enough already.
  • 19 4
I'm over it. I won't look at anymore headlines from the Trek team. This click bait marketing is lame.
  • 122 1
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize Simon Cowell had moved in to DH team media strategy. Do we get to see their families and hear how tragedy has driven them to be the best they can possibly be?
  • 60 0
We need to all make a pact to not click or comment on the next one. A peaceful pinkbike protest.
  • 12 0
Good luck. Bored readers will want to see the comments even more with each rider revealed.
  • 8 0
@Flowcheckers: Agree. Let's just post photos of nice sinks and make it the most read thread of the week.
  • 41 2
Shit or get off the pot already, tell us who's on the damn team. I don't know what happened this year, but it really seems like all these team departure announcements, farewell announcements, announcement announcements, and staggered "mystery reveals" just turned into a bunch of native advertising with the goal of fooling us into thinking we're getting a bunch of free content, but in reality it's just the giant advertising machine at work.

Someone wake me up when the actual racing begins.
  • 23 1
welcome to the world of social media, where the only thing that matters is views and clicks.
  • 37 0
Lmao. Why didn't they do this when their new bike came out? Reveal the front wheel, then the handlebars, then the seat....
  • 36 0
 is that casting couch?

  • 38 5
How is this new so far? Kade was on the effing team last year. TREK stop this idiotic escapade and fire your media marketing people A.S.A.P.

OMG. This is getting out of control. First off, everyone knew that already. Second... it's not like Lebron moving to the Lakers or some crap like that. Just make the announcements.

Getting really thin on content these days?
  • 1 0
But isn't it the Mountain Biking World's equivalent of Lebron moving to a new team?
  • 9 1
Trek is gonna get 5 posts out of this damn team announcement... Marketers love it. PR people reading the comments cringe. As protest, I will not buy another Trek or Bontrager product for the next 5 years. Hellllllooooo Giro!
  • 10 0
This makes me wonder who Trek thinks ride their bikes. Fans of boy bands? 12 year old tweens?
  • 26 0
I've got some grumpy old man bias on this - but given the hordes of people I see at trailheads, in lift lines, and even smack in the middle of the f*cking trails instragramming and facebooking their selfies and moody backlit bike pictures and "action shots", I'd say this whole social media circlejerk is definitely hitting its audience. I'll get back to my porch now, yelling at those damn kids to get off my damn lawn...

TREK: a journey or trip, especially one involving difficulty or hardship.
  • 8 3
@sarahmoore your next project should be to document the top 20 women and their sponsorship and support throughout last years world cup season. I want to know how many factory teams are leaving elite women to fend for themselves.
  • 9 1
well...maybe expand your view from just DH for a second and I think you'll find major brands are fully supporting women's cycling in ALL disciplines.
  • 5 0
I see Reece has a bike check of his new ride over on Vital for anyone who’s interested. Would’ve been a lot cooler though if he had revealed a single component every day over the next month or two...
  • 5 0
Is Ethan Shandro the same kid that was riding with Andrew Shandro at the start of his North shore segment in seasons? Time flies I guess Smile
  • 1 0
I hope so. I was wondering that too!
  • 2 1
Yes it is. He's got good roots.
  • 6 0
Booooooooo!!! Just give us all of them. Be better.
  • 5 1
You should only go this slow if the last two are BIG names (like Gwin or Bruni). It may very well be Gwin as the Grips on the Session are HIS Signature Grips.
  • 3 2
Gwin to intense there's honestly no question about it anymore. On his insta stories he has been riding the intense E-bike for a bit now.
  • 1 4
@JohnmMtb: I wish he would ride a trek again. But I think intense is where he's going.
  • 4 1
This lad has skills to pay his bills, your bills and every fucker elses - amazing rider, looking forward to see where he goes and what direction, beyond DH, he takes ... one to watch for sure - check his insta for more clips
  • 6 4
This is my first and LAST view and/or post on any of these marketing Trek bull*hit tactics clickbait articles - like they are announcing crew for Mars colonization or some Nobel prize winners.... come on, its just riders for one of 10+ teams DH championship season 2019/2020, same way as last 10+ years, no need for "drama" and "building expectations". Post names, put some nice video/pictures of riders and thats it.
Nobody will remember this "great marketing tactics" in a week, except maybe its lame and retarded if repeated.....
  • 5 1
I for one applaud the staggered announcement. Whippersnappers nowadays and their narrow attention spans! Also, stay off my lawn! Hahahaha
  • 6 1
My money’s on Reece Wilson... based on nothing but gut feeling
  • 1 0
 Well look at that!
  • 2 0
I hope trek is paying Pinkbike for this, otherwise, this could really just be 1 really short press release in 2 weeks announcing all 4 and you’d likely get more juice from the squeeze. ,
  • 5 0
"you will never believe who's number 3"

...pfff
  • 5 0
judging by the casting couch probably the milf hunter
  • 5 1
Trek, fire the marketing people that convinced you that this was a good idea
  • 3 0
Not 1 press release, not 2, not 3, not 4 but 5! Can we have one for each component too please?
  • 4 0
Congrats to Kade, but I think dating Tahnee is his greatest achievement.
  • 2 0
just get on with it Trek. dragging it out like this just makes it boring. if you do one a week the first race will be here before we even know. boring!
  • 7 2
 This boy is quality
  • 2 0
Kid kills it along with Kaos.
  • 5 0
 Hahaha, LAME.
  • 8 6
How is this an announcement? He was already on the Trek! Trek just making their brand appear more douchy than most guys who own Trek's already are
  • 5 2
 You dissing Semenuk?
  • 11 1
You know, now that you say it, I guess I am kind of a douche. And here I thought I was looking Superfly with my new 'Stache, and every training Session adding Fuel to the belief that I was approaching Procaliber status. I hope there's some kind of Remedy. Maybe I should just Slash my wrists, cuz here I am trying to be funny like that Farley guy, but I'm afraid I haven't even approached Marlin Wayans levels of comedy.
  • 3 0
Why go for first and not 1/2 of the first? Make us guess based on their shoes. That's what we really want.
  • 3 0
I was really hoping they would tell us the last rider one letter at a time... build a bit more suspense
  • 3 0
The sport needs people like Kade Edwards....go kid ????
  • 1 0
The ride fast but have a lot of fun is the same thing that I do. But I don’t think I can pull off the fashion thing too. Smile
  • 3 0
This is a 100% waste of time, and this announcement needs more cowbell
  • 3 0
I click on this shit because I’m curious, but it’s annoying overall.
  • 2 0
I agree with the picks and I an excited to see what #4 is. Damn your slow play but kind of worth it.

That Christopher Walken commercial was great and far better than that wannabe horror-movie thing they did. Christopher Walken + MTB is just fine with me.
