Update IIIThe Trek drip feed has finally run dry and the final rider on their books has been revealed - Reece Wilson. With his podium in Fort William backed up with a 7th in Val di Sole, Reece was one of the breakout riders of last year and will be hoping to prove it was no fluke. Reece last raced on the Session in 2016 as part of the Unior Tools team, so it's a set up he should be fairly familiar with to hit the ground running.
| I heard early in the year that Trek had a new program in the works and it sounded exactly what I was after. It felt right in my head and even better in my heart, so it really was a no brainier. Feels like home. After getting a taste for the top 10 last year I really want to become a consistent top 10 guy this year. The buzz of the podium last year was unreal so I’m definitely keen to relive that.—Reece Wilson |
So finally we have the full roster, Wilson, Harrison, Edwards and Shandro. Wilson is the oldest at 22 meaning it's a young but massively exciting team for Trek in 2019.
Update II400 [Failed to load instagram embed] https://www.instagram.com/p/BsvWUB-Fs93/?maxwidth=1000Third on the roster for Trek Factory Racing Downhill is Charlie Harrison, who returns to the brand after riding for them as a junior. Chuck moves over from Intense and will be hoping to pick up from a season that saw him establish himself as a top 20 rider before bagging his first top 10 in Mont Sainte Anne.
| Over the last few years of racing World Cups full time, I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve learnt a great deal about myself, about racing in general, and I’ve learnt a lot about teams and the people I want to be working with. Having worked with Trek in the past, I know exactly how they handle themselves, how they go about research and development, and how they push to get results, both for themselves and for their riders. When I would ask myself who I wanted to be working with or what my ideal inner circle was, it would always come back to being Trek. I really value and appreciate their professionalism, their clean image, and their work ethic. Not to mention, through my previous years of riding for Trek, I had established awesome relationships with the people there that I really valued and respected.—Charlie Harrison |
Only one more Trek announcement to go now...
Update:Next up in the Trek Factory Racing Downhill tease-a-thon is Ethan Shandro and it's no surprise that he's pretty handy on a bike as he's the son of North Shore legend (and Trek rider)
Andrew. Ethan steps up as a first year junior but he's already got some pretty strong results under his belt in the form of Crankworx, BC Cup and NW cup youth wins. Ethan's goal for racing is apparently to "have more fun than everyone while riding my bike fast," while also having "the most fire outfits during course walk." Fashion fans and trolls, be ready.
