Suddenly, I am very aware of how much time I spend behind a desk. Midlife crisis, here I come!
  • + 10
You spend time behind a desk because life is a trade off, as do I. The way other people's lives are portrayed in media is so biased. Maybe these guys are millionaires from what they do, or maybe they were before, or maybe they live in a van. I don't really care because I live in a house, have a comfortable life, and can ride my bike when I want to.

 @pwadjo: Keep telling yourself that

So MTBing is about fly fishing, canoeing and climping up a snowy chute?
For me MTBing was always about ripping my Bike and if i climb a chute with ice axe and crampons i sure as hell carry skis on my backpack instead oft my bloody Bike.
Guess im just not epic enough and actually i also do know nothing about fly fishing

They do it for the attention. Hence the pictures and story
  • + 2
Yeah I couldn’t help but think “someone should show him skis or a snowboard”

It's adventure, showing where bikes can go if you're willing to take alternative modes of transport. How many videos start with someone driving to a destination?
  • + 5
Great vid, liked the song, love the life.

we bumped into them in Val right before Sam got a new face. proper down to earth chaps who just have mind blowing adventures!

that ridge line on 1:36!!!!!!!!!!

one question I always have with these adventure videos is how do they carry all their filming gear? Especially the drone? Which one do you use? I did bring my Mavic Pro to one mini adventure and regret it on the first climb since it is still heavy in a backpack!
  • + 0
i think they just film each other on go-pro's, plus the odd day out with a drone?
  • + 2
@Funkhouser: some of the shots are most definitley not captured with a GoPro, like 90% of them Big Grin

If you ever see the behind the scenes stuff the camera man is usually pretty much as extreme as the guys in the videos.

I haven't seen much for MTBing (I assume it's similar) but I have seen it for stuff like climbing and backcountry snowboarding. The camera equipment is generally like 50 lbs (you're bringing a camera, backup memory [which is literally a hard drive], backup batteries [a single RED battery weighs 1kg], lenses, tripod, if you bring a drone it's probably in a Pelican case so that you don't slip and smash it, these guys aren't messing around).

For snowboarding the camera guy is climbing to an alternative peak so that you can actually see the athlete and then setting up there. For climbing he's repelling down holding all that gear. And then after all of that the camera guy has to get down.

Pretty much if you wanna do camera work you better be in hella good shape.

Side note: I use "guy" in the most gender neutral way possible and in no way imply that a "guy" is male.

@AlbinoBlacMan: Sam, Joe's brother (the guy doing most of the riding in the video), is the guy who films this. Ex-EWS rider (the one with the smashed up nose).

How do I hang out with you guys?
  • + 1
Bikepacking is the new craft beer...which was the old fly-fishing. Which will soon again become the new bikebacking Everything comes full circle.
  • + 3
Insanely jealous. That horrendous song though!
  • + 1
Yeah, the music kills it. I am more of singular focus and simply want to ride so this said nothing to me.
  • + 4
 Holy busted nose!
  • + 2
Must of been going for Rudolph the Reindeer look to match the sweater.
  • + 1
I’d prefer to do those activities separately and I’ll pay the few bucks to shuttle to the top! I’m all for earning my reward but why?
  • + 1
Is that a pack made for carrying bikes, or are they just rigging those together?
  • + 1
Tied the bike on there with a couple of innertubes by the looks of it.
  • + 1
I have absolutely no idea what the point of half of those shots was but I enjoyed it anyway.
  • + 3
 needs more cooking shots
  • + 1
They are just doing what I do all the time. I have such an amazing life. In my fookin’ dreams

I must be tripping, I'm sure there was a Sam Pilgrim video game being peddled on PB earlier.

 e-peddled

Alright i’m just gonna say it, if you can’t cast a fly rod properly stop putting the shit in your video to look cool. Other than that nice job fellas.
  • + 0
Dude I feel ya, welcome to modern day multimedia. Half the shit people do nowadays is for the photo and 'post'. I hate instagram for this reason, 90% of the stuff on there is fabricated and people do it for the 'photo', drives me nuts.

I don't know anything about fly fishing, just my .02 on the subject.
  • + 9
Funny thing is he probably catches more fish than you due to the fact he get out to the sweet zones.
  • + 3
@Shadowracer80: I can't remember a single fly fishing/mtb video in recent memory where anyone actually catches a fish.
  • + 5
He casts just fine, no he is not double hauling a 100ft cast or roll casting a two hander to perfection but I don't think he was implying himself as some pro angler.
  • + 1
@shaowin: I use bait cause i like to catch fish.
  • + 1
@jefflong: no, just no! Except eggs for steelhead, we all get desperate sometimes.
  • + 2
The hike up the shoot was pure comedy.
  • + 1
How does he attach the bike to the motorcycle?
  • + 2
Looks like its probably just strapped to his backpack...
  • + 0
It's pretty easy actually. You just put it on the back seat and tie it on with woven bands, like old tee shirt segments or something.
  • + 1
Did they get to go down the mountain at some point?
  • + 1
Great video ! Definitely inspiring for sure
  • + 1
These dudes are killing it o_o
