For 2014 the Troy Lee Designs mountain bike clothing and protection line has received a complete revamp - Troy and the team have been hard at work, not only crafting new designs for the bicycle line, but continuing to improve on the fit, feel and durability of TLD's apparel, protection and helmets. There is incredible momentum for TLD Bike right now, and 2014 is shaping up to be another action packed year. Take a look at the latest designs and styles below that are all now available at finer bicycle dealers worldwide or troyleedesigns.com.

Sprint is now available in youth sizes, as shown here on Finn Finestone

TLD Sprint 2014

Sprint is Troy Lee Designs' premium race wear, and for 2014 they've created an all-new bicycle pant that was developed secretly at events in 2013. The Sprint pant is about a half a pound lighter than the previous SE Pro bike pant, which is no longer in the line.

Sprint also has an all-new race short to match the jersey, lighter than previous Sprint short, but just as durable, along with all new Sprint gloves. Sprint is now available in youth sizes, so the groms can rip it up like the big guys.

• Sprint jersey: MSRP $50 ($38 youth)
• Sprint pants: MSRP $125 ($99 youth)
• Sprint shorts: MSRP $86
• Sprint gloves: MSRP $26 ($30 YOUTH)

TLD Ruckus 2014

Ruckus is the staple all-mountain category apparel, when you need to be ready for more trail abuse than other pieces of kit. Based on customer feedback, more features have been added for 2014, like a slick phone pocket that’s positioned in the right area, zip fly with snap enclosure flap, rear pocket too, and strengthened fabric in key areas so it is ready to handle a big ride on a big bike. The Ruckus jersey has gotten a little more tailored while still being a classic loose fitting mountain bike jersey, the fabric is softer than in the past and it sits on your body better than ever.

• Ruckus jersey: MSRP $52
• Ruckus shorts: w/included liner short: MSRP $135

TLD Skyline 2014

The new Ace short is the lightest short TLD has ever made, with more of an athletic performance fit, more tapered and lower waisted than other shorts, and it comes with a new redesigned padded liner short. If you want to go fast, feel like you have nothing on, and not wear a sausage suit while on the trail, this is the short for you. The Ace jersey has also been redesigned for better fit, with zip rear pockets and a zipper front. The Ace collection also sees the addition of lycra bib short, arm warmers, knee warmers, base layer top, lightweight breathable windbreaker

TLD Protection 2014

Clockwise from top left: Semenuk, Method, Panic, TBone-II

TLD Protection 2014

The TLD protection line has undergone a major overhaul, with five all new models being unveiled for this sesaon, including the TBone-II, a long awaited revision of TLD's first MTB specific knee guard. This will be very popular for the “E-word” riding, since it's rugged enough to take a digger on the trail, light enough to throw in your pack and adjustable enough to fit any sized leg with the adjustable straps.

Semenuk: Long time TLD rider and 2x FMB World Tour Champion Brandon Semenuk has wanted TLD to make an aggressive pad for dirt jumping, shuttle runs and freeriding for years, and Troy Lee Designs finally answered his requests and spent the last year developing this new pad. A CE certified impact cup is encased by a very subtle Semenuk themed (pics of his Mustang, newspaper headlines, etc) abrasion resistant liner. They work great under pants - the guys have been racing and riding this guard with the new Sprint pants all winter and loving it

The Method is an all-new take on the 2-part knee guard system TLD has offered in the past. A polyester mesh knee gasket that can be worn by itself on an easy ride, but throw on the bomb proof plastic shield, made of honeycomb polyethylene plastic and is CE certified.

Panic: Another completely new knee guard for 2014, this one is a 5-strap application and is a longer knee guard with great shin and knee protection, pre-curved guard for a fantastic fit, also CE certified.

E-Lite elbow. Another completely new guard, this one is a ergonomically designed ultra thin slip on elbow guard, using a lycra sleeve with a co-polymer pad exterior that also has memory foam to protect your elbows in a crash, or grazing a tree.

• TBone-II: MSRP $52
• Semenuk: MSRP $98
• Method: MSRP $85
• Panic: MSRP $112
• E-Lite: MSRP $35

Refreshing to see Troy Lee is still using the term 'all-mountain'.

New pads look really good, they needed improving; don't rate their Shock Doctor guards at at all.
  • 8 1
what exactly dont you rate about the shock doctor stuff. Ive got the knee pads and the upper body protection suit and so far I rate it as the best protection Ive used and Ive tried a few of the top brands.
  • 5 2
I recently bought a pair of the knee guard long KGL5450, and brand new the stitching is coming apart at the back. Whilst they cover the knee cap fine, I prefer a slightly larger protection area, and would consider them inferior to contemporaries IXS Slope; Fox Launch; Nukeproof Critical. They are however very light, and low profile. Nothing against the body armour.
  • 2 0
fair enough I am using the exact same knee guard Ive used them for a full season now with no issue what so ever I can understand your disappointment if yours came apart though were troy lee not willing to replace them? I agree the IXS are an excellent pad not so sure the fox launch or the nukeproof pads are any better though. You may like bluegrass pads I had them before the TLDs and swapped them as I felt there was too much material around the knee for me and too bulky for me.
  • 3 1
Yes, I will return them for refund, reading reviews there are a few with similar build quality complaints, maybe I received one of their returns?

Glad you've found them to your liking, we're all a little different shape-wise and prefer different things, and that's fine by me, although obviously not to the person who thumbed down my response! Rolleyes Big Grin

I think every company will get quality issues from time to time it happens to the best companies out there. Theres a lot of factors that could cause something like stitching to fail fit being one of them. Everyone is a different shape as you say and with the way the TLD shock doctor pads are designed i.e. an elasticated fit you have no real options for tuning at each end of the pad to cater for different leg/knee shapes. This is a trade off really as Ive owned several sets of pads now that just slipped off of my legs because they had velcro straps. I think I bought pads again it would be between the tlds I have and the IXS as the reviews have been really positive on the IXS pads. One thing I would say about the shock doctor stuff though is they fit fantastic but Id like to see some kind of system to help you pull them on and off after a ride as when you get sweat build up its difficult to remove the armor without tearing it.

Gave you a plus prop your back at +1 now haha

I ride with the KGL5450 (knees), KG5550 (elbows), the shorts and the short sleeve vest. I stitching also came loose, but only on the left knee, I'm in SA so no-one to just send them into, took them to a tailor and he sorted them out no problem, he said the not at the end of the stitching is culprit. As for the rest of it, I've never been happier, I ride in upto 32C heat sometimes and they never feel like they over heat, the low profile in thick riverine forest that I go to is great, I can ride with my elbows without getting snagged on anything. And the vest, when paired off with one their light weight jerseys, like the Skyline, is so cool and well ventilated, it's fantastic. I personally loved that range, sorry to see it go.
  • 2 0
I really hope we're being alarmist about them dropping the shock doctor stuff, I really liked the pieces I've had. Maybe this stuff is replacing other stuff, like the lopes guards?
  • 2 0
Didnt they have this range plus the shock doctor stuff last year ?
  • 2 0
Yea, they've had stuff like the t-bone and the lopes guards the whole time they've had the shock doctor stuff... that's one reason I'm holding out hope that the SD stuff isn't going away.
  • 7 0
Our collaboration with ShockDr is not going away, what so ever...and the Shock Dr. stuff is in the new catalog and at dealers. We just chose to have the media focus on NEW items in the line up.

Nice. Good to hear it from the horse's mouth.

I was planning on getting a tld vest until I saw there was no back protection. And from the looks of it, it still doesn't. Dainese will get my money.
  • 1 0
huh? I have the hot weather shirt (5850?) and it has spine protection, though you can optionally remove some of it.
  • 2 0
@rathunter, we have a new vest, with back protection see here: www.troyleedesigns.com/products/5234-02
  • 1 0
@ TLD- yes! I have not had any problems with the 5450/5550 that I ride with exclusively.
  • 2 0
Coming from someone who is not a fan of TLD apparel, I would say that the tld HW jersey/vest is possibly the best protection /armour I have ever worn. For bicycle or moto. The best protection is the stuff you are willing to wear, and sometimes the robocop stuff is just too damn hot. So well done on the armour side tld.
  • 11 0
im all about that teal/orange ruckus jersey
  • 1 0
ill hold off untill i get a proper review but i was always happy with the t bones. The fit could be funnny but they took the down hill hits. does anyone need another enduro pair of pads?

That said i love there shockdoctor kit. Ive superman'd down some nasty rocky shoots and cracked a helmet but still walked away unscathed in the body armour. All armour and helmets come down to personal fit but the tecnology worked bloody well in crash testing for me

 TLD XC gloves FTW!
  • 1 0
I'd like to see TLD offer knee protection for those mild days and everyday trail rides. I'm not looking for anything w/ a cup or hard shell. I think they would be able to come up with something comparable to the G Form knee or even the Race Face Charge. I've found my POC VPD 2.0 knee are too much for most rides or I don't feel like carrying them for when the trails get rough.
  • 5 1
@bandit350 the new TboneII sounds like something you would want to look into. There is no cup or hardshell and can be folded up compactly to fit in a pack or large jersey pocket-but, they truly are comfortable enough to stay on for a long ride (it's how we tested them, by riding xc rides).

Are the Ruckus Shorts substantially shorter than the Moto shorts? My problem is that the Moto shorts are way too long for me. I've had one or two near death experiences where my shorts got caught on my fork and I almost took a nose dive. Now I end up rolling up the ends of my Moto shorts so they don't get caught, it may look funny but it works. The length must have changed over the last few years since I have a pair of older Moto shorts which are great.
  • 1 0
I would have to look into an exact measurement @digitalsoul, but Ruckus shorts are shorter than moto, and not as baggy as moto.
  • 1 0
Looks like I'll have to get an ace jersey/shorts. I love my P51 themed downhill jersey but wanted something more form fitting with vents in the summer.

I do love the looks I get while wearing my downhill gear on my 29er XC bike, though.
  • 1 0
Just ordered an ace jacket and jersey. Would have liked another color for the zippers other than red, but it'll do.
  • 2 0
Love the new Sprint pants, took them long enough to bring something like that out.
Light MTB trousers, with pockets and don't cost the earth - who woulda thunk it?!
  • 8 0
That said, I'll probably wait for a year until new Sprint colours are released.
The First Yellow / Green is too Australian.
The Red white and Blue, well is too 'Murican.
The black one is alright, but kinda Kiwi "All-blacks-esque"
The other one, well... no one wants to be that guy.
  • 4 1
I agree, the 2nd is much too American, the 4th is alright. The 3rd looks good. And lets face it, looking like an Aussie an only improve your riding
  • 1 0
Can you fit some knee pads under the Sprint pants? I'm thinking Race Face Ambush pads or similar.

I could go for a pair of pants for winter coastal BC riding, but only if the pads are compatible.
  • 4 0
Zink and Semenuk rode 13' Rampage in the new sprint pant, WITH knee guards, Gwin, Brosnan, Ropelato have been racing this winter in the sprint pant with knee guards (usually the new Semenuk, a favorite with them).
  • 1 0
Thanks for the reply. I will be ordering some pants. Your shorts and jerseys have been treating me right.

My only complaint is that the TL jerseys I have snag really easy compared to other brands I own. Not deal breaker, but if there was a way to solve that they would be 10/10 awesome.

Smile
  • 1 0
I agree on the snagging thing! but I find the feel of them to be nice soft and comfy! so not a complaint ;-)
  • 1 0
i like the look of troy lee kit, i always have, the only thing i find that in the UK the prices seem to be a little high compared to similar top brands.
  • 2 0
The new sprint jerseys look real cool. There are more detailed pictures on the TLD website, I am impressed!

  • 2 1
@chyu Enduro specific ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha… 'Here take all my money, no please, have it. My current knee pads, jersey, shorts, shoes, bike and helmet won't do for Enduro racing because they're not designed specifically for Enduro. They can't handle riding up and then back down again.'
  • 1 0
I'm torn between the skyline and ruckus line. I need something that can handle sharp rocks but without over heating. Do the ruckus shorts have vents?
  • 2 0
@boardlife Ruckus shorts have vents that are revealed via a slick little zip in the thigh. You can see on pg 41 of the catalog with the feature call outs. www.troyleedesigns.com/2014/bicycle/intl
  • 2 1
