First Look: 2015 Troy Lee Designs Helmet Collection

Feb 16, 2015
by Troy Lee Designs
Troy Lee Designs, an industry leader in helmet safety, innovation and graphic design is excited to announce it’s 2015 spring release of trail, gravity and race helmets. The range of helmets is a personal victory for company founder and head designer, Troy Lee, who struggled in 2014 with injuries.

Leading off the collection of industry leading lids is the new A1 trail helmet. Only in its 2nd full year, the A1 has been winning awards worldwide and being touted by many as the ‘most comfortable helmet’ ever produced. The A1 Helmet has seen some refinements to strap construction internally within the EPS, and an added composite filament layer skin, in between the EPS and the helmet shell for penetration reduction. D3 and D2 helmets which have been the benchmark in safety and style, resulting in elevating the entire helmet industry are back with some fresh looks from wild to mild. Competition has been fierce in the industry and TLD strives to hold that top spot in consumer polls, that we have held for so many years. Certainly not resting on our laurels, the TLD design and engineering department are continuing to push the boundaries of style and innovation.

Troy Lee who has now returned full time to TLD had this to say upon the launch of the new line of helmets,

bigquotes2014 was a struggle for me personally, suffering from a big crash on my dirt bike before the summer began, it kept me away from the shop for a many weeks, but more importantly it kept me from my yearly Whistler trip! This collection is a big victory because I am really proud of the new designs and improvements. We elevated our testing program and are still setting the benchmark against other brands in safety. The design team really worked hard with me, coming over to my house while I was rehabbing from home, going over paint ideas, designs and creating. I got back on the bike at the end of summer and I have never been so happy to be back. It feels great to have built a company where we can all create and dream, but more importantly, keep people protected while they enjoy a bike ride.

What colour will the Whistler bike park hipsters spend daddys money on this year.....
  • 82 6
I hear that this year it's camo tartan with an undertone of 'whatever' pierced with a healthy dose of 'I'm whippier than you'.
  • 178 1
 oooooooooo the bitterness is real

theres actually no helmets with a camo colourway, so maybe you should open your eyes junior
  • 17 3
Maybe you should open your eyes bud...
  • 18 2
But hipsters wear things that aren't mainstream. TLD is about as mainstream as you can get.
  • 19 1
Not in MTB. MTB hipsters look like the guy from the faster than you video: new pj's and matched gear top to bottom.
Real hipsters don't MTB. The fixie.

@Keepthestoke please show me the helmet that supposedly has "camo" on it and I will open my eyes more.

There's Speeda Yellow, Squirt Orange, EVO grey, Pinstripe II, Speeda White, Squirt White, EVO Red, Drone, Galaxy, Pinstripe versions, Proven, Midnight.

There is no mention of camo.

Try harder
  • 17 1
i wish i was a whistler bike park hipster!! good for them!!
  • 6 2
@jaycubzz galaxy is camo bro... Just to prove it I have the dictionary definition of "camouflage" - "the disguising of military personnel, equipment, and installations by painting or covering them to make them blend in with their surroundings." So really yeah it's called "galaxy" but it's still camo...

thats deffinately a ghetto ass camo like it or not . and bike hipsters dont wear full kits . they wear cut offs and beaters bizatch! unless of course your parents buy your rap , then yea your totally right

Maybe you all can start a fashion blog to argue about the color of your pj's and matching helmets.

I don't see the camo either, the ones I think people are saying are camo are actually contour lines like you'd find on a map?

Those rrp's on the d3's can't be right. They charge 2x as much here...
  • 1 0
Honestly, if I could I'd spend it on that plain carbon D3 without any of those goofy squiggs & shit. Just plain carbon with the TLD is good for me. Gets me a little wet actually.
  • 1 0
 Why so much hate??
It´s just a brand.. idc who spends money on what kind of product.. leave it to the guys who like those helmets.. and they don´t have to be "hipsters" to buy tld products.. they just like coulors i guess
  • 1 0
Ohh and in addition.. just my opinion.. hipsters don´t exist.. one who has to integrate himself into a group of people to feel individual just missed the point.. so you could call one who considers himself a hipster an "idiot".. but don´t hate people for they´re mental capabilities
  • 1 0
The neetbthing about hipsters is not that they try to be like others in order to feel unique. That describes every subculture ever. (think open flannels and slashed jeans in the 90’s)
The best thing about the hipsters is they think they each came up with the idea by themselves. "I am the original hipster. Everyone else copies me."
  • 1 0
I´d say in the 90`s people tend to wear the same clothes in order to show that they´re part of a subculture.. but anyway... we could argue for monthhs i guess
  • 1 0
I just remember a lit of talk about not conforming. Basically the same as every generation.
  • 1 1
"I'd ride my mountain bike but I'm too busy judging the apparel choices other riders make because I don't care enough to spend the money, but still want the product."

This is how your posts read to anyone but those involved in your circle jerk.
  • 1 3
PS: anyone who believes there is a camo pattern in the 2015 range needs to see a neurologist asap.
  • 1 0
dear troy lee designs, please make confortable helmets that fit in our heads! bell is an example of confort!
  • 1 0
Don't really want the product. Not judging people who do. Maybe judging the people who feel superior for wearing it a little, and definitely mocking the people who get mad about whether a color or a pattern is called a certain thing. I would make fun of people arguing if a paint is blue or circulean in the home depot too. It's nothing personal. I tend to laugh at my own jokes a lot, and saw an opportunity to feel clever.
  • 2 1
all i was saying is that there is no camo, which there isn't. and people got angry. lol.

The D3s look pretty clean, but what happened to beer spraying and naked gold lady trophies and dart boards and pool balls. I understand the pinstripe is the most popular model but there must be some demand for something similar to the original peaty pub style lid.
  • 4 0
chances are, that'll come around when they actually know what peats gonna run for a paint scheme this season.
  • 1 0
Ya but they don't show you .. The black red and yellow one , and also the black silver and white one both have cheetah print on the tops of them .
  • 28 3
Thank you TLD for making a carbon helmet that looks like it is made of carbon... I love the form of TLD helmets, bloody fantastic!
  • 2 1
I personally enjoy the Brunswick bowling ball inspired paint scheme. Wouldn't purchase, but enjoy.
  • 1 0
They're trying really hard to get my money. I kinda want my head to look like a bowling alley. It's a tie between the A1 Galaxy and the Bell super.
  • 22 5
That's a lot of recycling on the D3 paint job. Not much new here, TLD's been lazy.
  • 17 0
was expecting more of a D4
  • 14 2
For the first time in years I would happily wear any of them. Not the biggest fan of some of their recent designs but these look tasty to me. All i need now is a pair of 5.10s that aren't hideous to look at.

I would totally wear my janoskis for biking but they don't have the grip and stiffness of 5.10s. 5.10 just can't make shoes that actually have style.
  • 3 2
Mate the last thing I care about when buying shoes is how stylish they are trust me...

Duh. Does she ride any other way? She kicked ass at a couple of stops last year before getting busted up at Windham WC, but I have no doubt she'll be back throwing down this year. #lawndartFTW
  • 8 1
They are all so damn ugly! Can't they just do like one or two plain colors? Some of us don't think the peak of style is a hotwheels car
  • 7 0
So theres been a Palmer forever and now that he's back theres no more helmet? F I was looking forward to the new design
  • 6 0
Palmer's running FLY Racing stuff now, helmet and kit. Legendary as he is, I'm not sure TLD would resurrect/create a Palmer paint scheme when he's not running their helmets...

Speeda Matte white D3 for me thanks! A few designs a certainly derivative of previous models including the second Sam Hill signature D3.
  • 5 4
I often wonder how many people out at the bike park are rocking a TLD lid that fits like crap only because of the street cred. The D3 I tried on had awful pressure points, ended up with a bluegrass full face. But then of the half lids I tried I ended up with an A1 because of the fit.
  • 1 0
A1 was my favorite half lid as well. Just wish it was more ventilated
  • 3 0
It's all up to the person's melon. Personally I find only TLD full face helmet's fit the shape of my head. They're great helmets, but I don't necessarily like my only helmet option being one that has such a fanboy association.
  • 4 2
Am I the only one around here who has always thought that TLD lids look lame? Tribal/camo went out about 12 years ago yo! Over priced for pretty weak helmet graphics IMO. I'll stick to my flat black Gryo's thanks.
  • 2 1
What happened to the once so great and creative designs TLD used to have? A fu**ing leopard pattern? Are you kidding me? Even the darn black CF Pinestripe did not change during the last couple of years. It seems that the responsibles have given the decal and design job to the pool cleaner.

new Gwin helmet not pictured but here it is....

  • 2 1
That was available last year too, I think they're only showing the new colour options.
  • 2 0
Okay. It's the same design in a new colour. Either way, it's new.
  • 3 3
sentences like 'an industry leader in helmet safety, innovation and graphic design' always mean it's a lazy ass copy/paste of a press release. At least pretend to edit.

That being said, those A1 helmets look pretty sexy. (not the blue and orange one though)
  • 4 0
it is a press release...you know it from the top...
  • 3 0
D2's are a reasonable price-point but the ventilation looks terrible. Can anyone comment on this?
  • 1 0
 Yeah it's pretty bad
  • 1 0
Why people ever complain about a helmet's price, or bag on those who buy expensive helmets is beyond me. It's a good thing most of you don't moto, $350 will get you a mid level helmet.
  • 5 2
 For the Worlds fastest racers!

Or for the worlds richest kids.
  • 4 1
Finn Finestone got hooked up - good on the lad!
  • 1 0
Compared with my giro hex, my A1 is way warmer. On hot summer days I had to switch back to my XC lid so any improvements to the venting would be helpful.
  • 1 0
Has anyone tried wearing prescription eyeglasses with D3? If so, what brand and model? I'm trying to find glasses that will slide into the D3.
  • 2 0
They had the new Aaron Gwin D3 design on the TLD website earlier but it is now been removed for some reason!?
  • 1 0
2 out of the 6 look decent but there are other lids on the market thay won't make you look like you just came out of a tattoo shop.
  • 1 0
Does anyone know if you can wear glasses with the D3? Maybe special padding is available?
Thanks.
  • 2 1
Been using the A1 for a little over a year now. Very comfortable, very light, and best-looking helmet in my opinion.
  • 1 0
Agree, A1 is the comfiest helmet out there (owned POC, Specialized...). I wish someday TLDwill make D3 as comfortable as A1.
  • 1 1
The 2 bottom left A1 flame helmets look so cheap and nasty! Look like little kids helmets from walmat ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51UDUMWg%2B%2BL.jpg

  • 1 0
I don't need my heart, right?

whats the point in the D2 now?
  • 3 2
D3 is for sponsored racers and kids sponsored by daddy D2 is for us ...... I've bought an IXS and it fits perfectly ... of course they are not THAT nice looking
  • 1 0
So that they have a wider range of helmet pricing. Good for people just getting into the sport or not willing to throw down 350+ for a d3. It's like how fox has two dh helmets, one high end and one low end
  • 1 0
i wish that a d3 costed the same as it cost's there, i had on a few years back(cracked it) and buying if from bto sport's at 450 usd, like 320 or 30 euros at the time plus 100 euros of taxes was still 1 to 200 euros cheaper than buying it here
  • 1 0
@tiagomano Your should have, or still should contact TLD in regards to their crash replacement program for helmets.
Cheers
  • 1 0
i contacted them, sent an email but no response from them. as the helmet was only with some part of it craked but the shape was ok i puted it on the internet as a cracked helemet and a friend of mine knowing the the shape it was it bought it from me for 150€

No MIPS (or ODS (used in 6D helmets) or any other protection against rotational forces), no care.
  • 9 5
POC has MIPS, too bad several people cracked one in less than a justified situation and chin protector is flexy as hell - hahahahaha! Big Grin (makes histerical laugh after finding true life irony) Getting on a DH bike is the first mistake you make in case you want to live your life in a safer way.
  • 2 2
when I see a second party find a benifit to MIPS I'll look ...till then its just marketing
  • 2 2
I've had MIPS helmets and used ODS, and I can say with full certainty (especially after slamming the new helmet on concrete Saturday) that the D3 is right up there with the best. Research the safety standards, the construction and the ideas. Then we'll talk construction differences and rotational forces.
