 The price is worth it

I love the fact that you can actually put your headphones in the helmet, awesome!!
  • 16 3
you can buy cheap £20 piss pots that have speakers in them and i agree with 'cannondale3chaser' ridiculously over priced, i dont care what people say, £100 will get you a comfterble helmet that will protect your noggun and will last.

aside from TLD, its how wel the helmet will protect you, e.g. a £100 helmet isn't gonna protect you as much as a £300 one is it?

back to TLD, and i do think that the D3 is whey expensive, and however much i would like one, simply put i cannot afford one, but if you look around many places here in the UK are doing them for around £350 from £500, so either way, its not that bad, if you take into account that discount!

you cant measure how well it is going to protect you via the price. 661 evo carbon, 100 from crc, will protect just as muck as a tld, D2 where pritty flimsy but they where still sky high, your paying for the brand and how amazing they look.
  • 4 6
a 661 evo carbon isnt 100 retail though is it, they are 200, and just cause its carbon doesnt mean it will protect you better, its just lighter

such an awesome helmet, too bad it's way out of my price range Razz
  • 3 1
literally just got my '10 moto shorts today in white, if you shop around you can get them cheaper than the competition: I paid £49.99 for my moto shorts where the equivalent fox option is £79.99 (and looks horrific).
troy lee is excellent quality and mountainbikers are never synonymous with caring about value for money...
if you shop around you can find it the same price if not cheaper than the other brands

2010 Fox Equivilent are £65, there called the Demo shorts, there very very nice and worth the extra!
  • 2 1
Id take the TLD moto and £15 change anyday.
  • 3 0
Search around, I got a brand new TLD D2 History for £140 off of eBay. Troy Lee are the nicest full face helmets out there IMO.
  • 3 0
Yeah, by far the comfiest in my opinion too.
  • 4 1
Domino, every helmet has to pass safety regulations, so a troylee will protect you as much as a 661 comp, your only paying for an extra layer of padding and for it to have troylee designs on it.
  • 3 0
well not really, because like the D3 and POC they have decided to try and make the safest helmet possible and have gone WAYYY past the regulations, just because the regulations are there doesnt mean to say they can't aim higher than them
  • 1 1
Yes they may absorb impacts well but it still doesn't justify the price, I'd rather have a consusion and save a few hundred quid tbh
  • 1 0
Some mtb brands build there helmets to MX standard, way past MTB standard. Kinda pointless, but it allows them to charge a fortune for the helmet.

I've had a pair of both moto shorts and sprint shorts by TLD for the past 2 years and neither one has a hole in them from the fair share of crashes I have had Lovin' the new helmet, especially the head phone inserts. Keep rockin' it Zink, you're hands down my favorite rider. Yeah TLD is expensive, but in the end it's gonna protect you better. Yeah you could be a cheap $100 fox rampage helmet, but it won't hold up and protect as well as a D3 that has a Carbon fiber shell and higher quality foam. Look at CF 661 or fox helmets, they have about the same price range.
  • 2 0
you all have valid points but ive seen a troylee helmet smash real bad as mush as i use to where on i think they are to expensive, rob is right about the shorts ive had both and the fox ones are much better shorts.
  • 1 0
a 150 bucks Dh helmet protect you as much as a 500 dollar TLD and after a had crash you are supposed to change the helmet anyway (I have broken a few helmets now and I'm glad they didnt cost too much)
  • 2 0
yeah man, i mean you can get all the protection you need for £100 or less, paying £300+ is just silly, unless you have a bit of money and want to ride around showing people that you've spend shitloads on a helmet thinking your cool, when everyone else just thinks your silly.
  • 4 0
Broken limbs you can recover from, a broken head is generally terminal. Protect your skull protect your spine and you'll be alright. 500 shells is high however, but if your looking from premium protection you pay a premium price, simple as that.
  • 2 0
i've got no problem with how expensive it is. if my poor ass can't do it i window shop and move on. It exist because it's market driven. people who can afford a mtn bike park destination/vacation generally have no problem spendin' cabbage.
  • 8 3
how much is your head worth?
  • 1 0
exactly only spend however much you think your heads worth
  • 1 0
your heads worth more then that even on a bad day
  • 2 0
i think tld should stop with making evry helmet hav flame not the coolest thing looks like they stole a motor cycle gas tank and made it into a helmet.........
  • 1 1
we all know d3 is to much $, does anyone know of or heard if they plan on coming out with a composite version of the d3? i know sometimes some people out there know people that know people and just wondering if anyone had heard if that was going to happen. i know since its new technology it would be atleast 2011 if not 2012..about having a d3. just curious

So wear a freddy kruegar shirt, shorts made from the 80's and you can be a "functional" rider too "and shit". No hate here, but certainly not many props on the clothing line. Kick ass helmet!
  • 2 0
yeah. the quality of TLD products is well worth the price. and it looks sick, too.
  • 6 0
I have an older D2 lid and while it fits and looks better then anything else i was not at impressed with the quality. The foam that is supposed to be attached to the helmet liner was loose and rattling until i put some two sided tape in it. The removable liner ripped the velcro tabs out of the lid making it hard to stay in place. But atleast it cost twice as much as the next option.
  • 2 1
Thats why the great invention of volume control was invented. Can still have background music, but take in the glory of the trail at the same time.
  • 3 0
The D3 looks sick! functional and Sh!t...lol
  • 2 0
I know he's so funny, "blows peoples heads off", "so people won't steal your crap"
  • 3 0
functional and shit...haha im glad your not in sales
  • 1 0
No kidding. Smile I noticed that too. We can ride with a wallet and no one will steal it. Smile
  • 1 0
Generally, I think this would be a good time to get a D2. When a new product comes out, old products become more affordable, being a better buy imo.
  • 3 1
Thats a lot of cabbage for a lid.
  • 1 0
you can all say the quality is worth the price... but its still freakin expensive
  • 1 0
Anyone know if Cam found a new sponsor for 2010? he is not with Felt anymore!
  • 1 0
yes...talked to him there. he was "trying" out corsair. He had his heavy build with his "heavy" marque with him that weighed in at 31. he had another one at 27ish too. must be nice being a pro. Def deserves it though. he's so stinkin nice. Def one of the nicest pros i talked to. So maybe corsair. Atleast he had 3 of their bikes to try out
  • 1 0
SOunds good! Thanks for the heads up! I think corsair would suit him great. I was wondering becasue if he didnt get a sponsor thats a waste of talent right there! Zink rips!
  • 3 2
everything TLD make is over priced go with FOX very nice and a hell of a lot cheaper.
  • 4 0
Actually, aside from their helmets, TLD products are less expensive on average than FOX. I know this is true for shorts and jersey's. TLD Moto shorts are $84. Good luck finding any decent Fox shorts for less than $100. As far as helmets go, THE helmets are very similar to TLD, and less expensive... By the way, the secret to saving money on Mountain Bike clothing is to buy everything from Motocross websites. Gloves, jerseys, helmets, goggles, ect. are always cheaper.
  • 1 2
well the tld moto shorts are only £15 less expesive then the fox blitz.
  • 1 0
Fox and cheap doesn't go in the same sentence you know...it's much like TLD, good, but pretty damn expensive and their prices are fixed most of the time so it's hard to grab what you want for an affordable price even when it's on sale.

I already put headphones in my helmet. Works like a charm.
  • 4 0
no offense to killsdeer4fun or nunukula, everyone is different, but skating, skiing and mostly biking i love the sound of the ramps/coping/snow/wind/dirt/HUB...!
  • 1 1
Same, and when you zoom off a take off! :L
  • 2 0
dude i'm the same way. in downhill i actually cannot stand not being able to hear my bike / the wind. i tried riding with headphones only one time and i kept over shooting jumps... i dunno, i guess the wind helps me judge my speed? ha
  • 4 1
I think it keeps my mind focused on cues related to the task, i.e. the trail and the upcoming events on the trail.

Sports, high adrenaline/high risk sports in particular, are a head game - conquer yourself and you will probably conquer the obstacle. For some, this level of mental balance is reached with music, for some it is not.

...I also like feeling alone with my bike in the trees.
  • 1 0
Yeah it sounds pretty sad, but I love the sound of a bike flowing through the trees and air. :L
  • 1 0
TLD is sick im lovin my yellow and black striped ruckus jersey put i revised my opinion about the carbon helmet when i some kid mutilate his face because the carbon gave out and the visor literally got smashed into his face
  • 1 1
Still cannot remove the straps for washing. I would replace the rivets with chainring bolts or so.
  • 1 0
D3 helmet looks sick, but SO expensive. :S
  • 1 0
I'd buy them if they were manufactured in the U.S.A.!
  • 2 1
tld is 2 expensive for the average joe
  • 1 0
what about even more paintjobs?! Big Grin
  • 2 1
