Troy Lee Designs and Troy Brosnan Part Ways

Dec 29, 2014
by Troy Lee Designs
Troy Lee Designs and Troy Brosnan have announced that they will discontinue their 5 year partnership effective Dec 31, 2014, at the end of the current contract.

It is never with great pleasure you write a press release about a partnership coming to an end, but, knowing things are ending on a positive note, with many wins and a lot of great product development, it does make it a bit easier to swallow. Troy Lee was first alerted to Troy Brosnan when his longtime friend and current TLD athlete Sam Hill told him about a young ripper from Australia that should really be a part of the TLD family. In 2010 when Troy Brosnan was brought to the Monster/Specialized race team, TLD became his helmet of choice, which later evolved into a apparel and protection deal the following seasons.

Troy Lee, the owner of Troy Lee Designs talks about when he discovered Troy Brosnan: "When Troy joined our team 5 years ago, I couldn't believe how fast he was, just a little shredder with a great style, low and fast seemed to be his trademark. There really was some magic on that team with Sam, Brendan Fairclough and Troy, pushing each other all the time, practicing with together, coming into the shop here, super cool and I am glad to see all the boys have evolved into other programs so well. Mountain biking is one big family, so knowing we will still see Troy Brosnan at the races is cool. We wish the best to Troy and hope he picks up where he left off, in Fort William this year, winning world cups, good luck man!"

For the 5 years Troy Brosnan was with the TLD brand, they shared a lot of great moments, from his first junior world title in 2010, alongside teammate Sam Hill in Mt St Anne. Later, backing it up at the 2011 world championships in Champery, Switzerland, where Troy Brosnan won the downhill by over 9 seconds on one of the wettest, toughest tracks to date. Troy Brosnan suffered through a few injuries in 2012 and 2013, but came back stronger than ever-the way champions do. Seeing Troy Brosnan take his first ever senior world cup victory in Fort William this year and ultimately taking the leaders jersey in the UCI world cup series for a few rounds was a remarkable moment for the Troy Brosnan and the TLD family. Troy finishing the season with a career best, 3rd place overall in the series behind team mate and TLD sponsored athlete Aaron Gwin in the 2014 series, capped off an amazing season.

Troy Brosnan reflected on his time with TLD in a statement made from his home in Australia this week, "It has been so sick to ride for TLD all these years, together we accomplished some really good results and looked good doing it, I am sure I will still be running the TLD motocross kits for cross training on the moto [laughs] I enjoyed working with Troy Lee too, I love how much he is still in the mix and I know Troy and the gang are excited for my new opportunity, thanks for everything guys!".

Unlike the palmer period though, I doubt there's an issue with sponsorship payouts with Troy. there's no need for him to prove a point is there...
  • 17 0
@golga If I could make $90 USD an hour working from home I might be able to afford the new Demo...
  • 22 0
Palmer is actually the honey badger tho, so he don't give a fuck.

I never even knew they were together. I never even heard of this guy.

@Rocky-Urban you probably also "never ever knew" anything about downhill world cups either. anyway, thanks for sharing your lack of knowledge with us.

@todesengel I do know that Angela Merkel is considered the most powerful woman in the world. I'd say that is knowledge better worth knowing.

Rocky, we all know lots of things worth knowing and not knowing. For example, I speak three languages, and have been to over 35 countries, but I don't have a clue about chemistry, or Russian poetry. But since this is a mountain bike site, and Troy leaving TLD is mountain bike related news, saying you know nothing about this, is not pertinent information. Actually, it's more asinine than if I went on a Toronto news site and said "Rob Ford did meth, I never even heard of this guy!" No one gives a f*ck.

Some of these younger kids just keep making themselves look stupid. It is funny at first but then is anoying. Pinkbike should do something about it.

@Rocky-Urban the identities of the most power men and women of this world, that are actually calling the shots, are unknown to us (the masses). They live a very secretive life never showing their faces or political ties to the media or public.
  • 4 1
@Rocky-Urban, Charles Bronson is Troy Brosnans dad, make his day.
  • 3 1
Specialized and TLD go and to hand so I don't know who he will go to

So now its just Lee Designes?

 Well done.

 Hah nice
  • 25 2
My guess is he'll be in Specialized branded apparel next year - probably coinciding with a new product line. The S-brand global takeover continues.
  • 7 2
 S= $@+@n????

That's how you should part ways: in a friendly respectfull way! Not like Trek and Neko...
  • 23 1
 Or trek and gwin
  • 23 2
 I'm seeing a pattern here...
  • 21 4
What was the bad thing that happened between Trek and Neko? Their parting seemed pretty standard to me.

Get paid to ride Brother Brosnan. Amen. Myself, and many others I'm sure, don't actually give a crap about what you wear or ride. Just get paid to be there....well, so you can be there! We love watching all the best riders in the Biz!
  • 17 2
My guess is that he was starting to get embarrassed having to ride in his pj's
  • 2 0
 And slippers?
  • 14 2
Troy! How can you end your time with the finest threads in the business! I genuinely hope you slip into some comfortable clothing and regardless of wear, 2015 will be your best season yet!
  • 52 1
Troy not on Troy Lee?? That's like Bernardo Cruz not being on Santa Cruz.... oh wait nevermind. Sorry Cannondale
  • 12 1
Yes he will have to change his first name as well - I am betting for Harold or Klaus
  • 24 0
 Or Piers?
  • 13 3
He'll probably use Nicholai Rogatkin's helmet... He'll look rad then!

  • 8 1
No matter what you go with troy you will still pin it! Best of luck for next year
  • 4 0
This just in: I will be taking over Brosnan's spot on the roster. It came down to budget restrictions and I could be had on the cheap...as is well known.

I look forward to only being able to wear one matching kit and a thoroughly used, yet beautifully crafted TLD D3 helmet for the upcoming season as I limp around the East Coast proudly brandishing the TLD colors.

Look for me at events randomly and unannounced putting just a single gloriously bright, breathable kit through it's paces in the name of product testing and self glorification. All autograph sessions will be impromptu and spring up like a neon FlashMob!

So stoked to be on the program @troyleedesigns . Big Grin

Troy could hit his peak someday and push DH to the next level. Love watching him ride, you know he has tons of heart to go along with all that skill.
  • 7 3
Is it just me that can't find a troylee helmet that fits properly. They all dig into your forehead. Ended up going with a fox rampage pro that's so comfortable you could sleep in it.
  • 3 0
Pre 2014 D3s had a plastic strip under the liner on the forehead that you had to cut out to alleviate that. They took em out for 2014+.

buy IXS, mory comfy and cheaper yes, not that flashy

My head is a size 8 (ffs it's a proper melon) and Troy lee lids, giro and shoei are the only helmets on the planet that have ever fit me. If you can't fit a tld helmet comfortably then your fox rampage pro is likely a garbage can with a few holes in it and a coupla stickers.
  • 2 0
Haha my head is 58.4cm it's more to do with the shape than size.
  • 4 0
Props to TLD for even responding to all of these stupid comments. You ever think maybe Brosnan got a better offer that pays more or has more benefits to make his life easier?

"No TLD must have screwed him over etc etc."
  • 7 1
Lol who's surname is Designs, Poor family.
  • 1 0
Well Jerome Clementz just left monster and mavic. There have been hints on instagram that JC is gonna be in Troy lee next year. I'd bet that their new product line is geared towards "enduro racers" like JC, Nico V and Graves. Also, I'm thinking JC will be rocking out for Redbull next year.
  • 3 3
S.Hill did the same thing after a long bid with Troy. Some of the the bigger companies can be dicks and want it all. Look at Gwin with Shimano and Specialized be full Sram.....always more to the story, and lets face it Troy Lee has the best kits ....end
  • 1 1
its all a bit silly isn't it, all these kids thinking that because all the pro wear and use certain kit that "It must be the best". but blow me id wear a 400 quid lid 150 quid jersey and ride a £10'000 bike if I was getting paid too! but seeing as im not then ill stick to buying all the overpriced stuff myself
  • 4 1
Now he can wear his Troy Lee pajamas in bed.
  • 3 0
Sam doesnt wear TLD now.... only helmet? Cause he wears CRC kit
  • 4 0
@anthonytutor You are correct, many years head to ankle in TLD, but, CRC wanted him in their own custom kit, but Sam demanded to stay with the D3 helmets.
  • 2 0
That CRC kit looks pretty awesome though. Big Grin
  • 1 0
Continuing on will be: Aaron Gwin, Brendan Fairclough, Sam Hill and Steve Peat.... That's a hell of a team; TLD isn't necessarily suffering...
  • 1 0
Now that I think about it. I'd love to have a job somewhere on that team! Doing anything really, it would just be awesome to hang with those guys at work everyday!
  • 4 2
Funny, in 2010 Troy was on UFO not TLD.
  • 20 2
He was locked in to a UFO deal when he came to Monster Specialized, but he did wear our D3 Carbon Helmets. Thanks for playing.
  • 2 0
Guess I missed the TLD helmet in pics 2 & 3.
  • 4 5
Continuing on with the Troy Lee Designs World Cup Downhill PRO TEAM for 2015 will be Aaron Gwin, Brendan Fairclough, Sam Hill and Steve Peat... Peaty? What?
  • 6 0
I'm pretty sure that Peaty has been running TLD Helmets for a number of years now Wink He'll still be in Royal Racing apparel though given his long and extensive history with the brand he created Wink
  • 2 0
Hill is also running Royal Racing.
  • 1 0
Helmet deals for all the above guys. Arron is fully kitted out though.

  • 1 0
Peaty sells helmets in the Uk, plain and simple, his name is a top drawer.
  • 2 2
So %50 of the Troy Lee Team don't wear Troy Lee?
  • 1 1
How have you just figured this out peaty and sam both sell tons of helmets across the world ns they should they're iconic people and fans look up to them
  • 4 1
Peytodog, The TLD team consists of about 15 elite athletes in various cycling disciplines, and yes, Peaty and Hill choose to wear our helmets.
  • 1 0
 @ troyleedesigns-
Any chance you guys will release more signature models to the public? I seem to remember only Aaron Gwin had a pro model out for the public to purchase for 2014. Thanks in advance.
  • 1 0
Yea the red Sam Hill helmet is still the GOAT
  • 6 0
vw4ever, we currently have a ZINK signature model and a Gwin. With the energy drink deals/helmet paint, it sure does make it harder to design signature lids, as well as use them in marketing (Have the athletes WEARING THE ACTUAL HELMET), so we haven't done as many, but still more than any other brand, with legendary riders. Stay tuned for Feb 16th when we launch the all new helmet lineup for trail, gravity and BMX, and Feb 23rd for the all new apparel and protection line up.
  • 1 2
the new line up consists in new helmets protection and clothing line or simple new colors ?
  • 1 0
@troyleedesigns hasnt troy been running the specialized dissident helment since like 2012? Cause i can remember him wearing one at nationals in '12?
  • 3 0
I feel like an idiot now but that's probably because I am.
  • 1 0
@ troy Lee, thx for the response. I have an old Stinger D3 from a few years ago, but I'd be keen to rock a Gwin, Hill, Peat or Fairclough with really nice graphics. Not that Brendan has his own, but I would if I could!

Can I get a custom Brendawg signature helmet? \m/
