@usmbc-co-uk: I got to ride there a few weeks ago and my hands were cooked after 2.5 laps at 1/3 this pace. Can't imagine prepping for a race on this track, let along actually executing a run at race speed.
You know it's proper steep when it looks steep even behind a gopro's lense !
It makes me question why do we have 'flat' tracks such as Fort Bill every year for the past 15 years. No offense to Fort William but it's not just scary steep enough. Where is the mountain in Moutain biking when it's flat?
@ads24000: The Leogang track is 2.6km long with an altitude difference of 520ish meters, Fort William is nowhere near that. There is no 'cross country' section in Leogang, but there is one in Fort William.
This year Leogang, Lourdes, Andorra, Lenzerheide and Val di Sole are 'mountain steep'. How good is the track over there is not for me to judge.
But we need less 'flat tracks' -pardon me saying flat when there are not really- such as Pietermarizburg, Cairns or Fort William.
"Fort William isn't steep enough to be a World Cup DH stop, only steep tracks should be considered for World Cup stops."
Do you have any idea how idiotic you sound? Tracks have different characteristics and Fort William happens to have an almost 4 minute long gnarly rock garden section. There's a reason its the longest running and most supported stop... aside from that shitty newly cut section in the woods.
@scott-townes: Agree to disagree, there is one big reason why they came to Fort Bill in the first place named business. DH was showing some encouraging growing rate back there thanks to Peaty. And to be honest Fort William had a massive advantage over some other place in the UK : a LIFT. Wales has so much more potential. Any track ridden by pros is gnarly even with some tiny little rock, simply because they ride quite fast.
My opinion is plain and simple, if you can't ride the track top to bottom without a single pedal stroke it's not steep enough. Rather the track is natural or not, full of rocks dropped on purpose or not ... I could not care less.
I'm old enough to remember the 'old' Fort William track . The one that was not 'that steep' -still isn't- but back then it was loads of fun and without too much pedal stroke.
@scott-townes: The UK has contributed so much to DH racing in the past 15 years that they 'deserve' a round every year or one out of two or three years.
Can't believe how few sounds he makes, especially on a track like that. I sound more like Claudio coming down a DH track, with many "OH Shiiit"s "Jesus f*ck!!"s "AAAAHHH"'s and much nervous/terrified laughter. Maybe i should concentrate harder
Seems like they put a tighter chicane before the finish jump. What a shame, I was looking forward to some massive hucks to flat. (jk, we don't need another dangerous finish line jump like in Leogang).
agree - though the problem wasn't the speed it was the jump and landing. It seems weird to have the race finish with riders... carefully navigating a couple of slick grassy turns. The re-route really messed up the finish.
clip like this for each race please ..... possibly a different athlete too? I must admit its actually better than the Claudio clips. (cue the negative repercussions)
I imagine a lemonade stand at the bottom of the hill selling whistles to everyone...
This is the most mind blowing track..Perfect balance of technical and flow.
There have been complaints this year at every track it seems.. too hard, too easy, too fast, too slow, too hard, too soft...
this is a PROPER dh track friends...glad to see it. I can't wait to see the guys put to their full potential and haul ass down the hill..
I spotted about 9 places I wouldve likely went down if pinning it on a first run down.. great stuff.
MFG Sooo much potential for massive injury, especially at these speeds Cray-Cray...Brendan has long been one of my favorite riders...He has so much natural ability and laughs when things get wet.....Huge Props!!!! Id love to see him pull off the win more than any other rider....
Needs more water for sure, way to easy track, barely making as sound or breathing hard and jumping corner to corner...............yep needs more water! Because we want CARNAGE!
