tara llanes is one of her closest friends and its because of her that she is wearing it. also all the comments on saying that her bike is too big for her is a load of rubbish from people that obviously dont know what they are talking about, i was her mechanic in 2007 n believe me when i say how precise everything is sized for her. and the comment from lcstay10, how is she being stupid wearing the brace without her helmet? she is sat down giving an interview? muppet. fionn is an amazing rider and an amazing person to know, so good luck for the rest of the year fee. lee

I'm not trying to discount the use of a neck brace, but this is a legitimate question... Was there much for neck injuries before the use of neck braces? Besides the obvious ones like Stacy Kohut, was there many?
  • + 0
Not too many, but each year just like in most gravity fed sports there are people left injured that will never enjoy the sports that they loved again. In Moto more and more tracks and race divisions are seeing the mandatory usage of them. It's preventative medicine. And Stacy hurt himself on a swing set if I'm not correct.

there definately is good reason for the neck brace. Tara Llanes broke her neck racing and now is a storng believer that these are a good step for the biking world. Stephen Murray broke his riding it may have been BMX but its still biking and freeriding. Even if it seems like too much. Take the time and think this question. would you rather be safe and look a little different or look normal but take the risk that could end your life or the sport you love?

I think they make you look faster!

This lady in England broke her neck too, but she lived on to tell about it (I cannot think of her name now). If am not wrong, she used to ride for Specialized back in the day (she must be 40 some now). I think they make sense though if you gonna be racing proper stuff or you are into hardcore free -riding. I am not sure whether I'd push it as mandatory (it really is for the rider to make a decision on it), but I'd strongly recommend it (and would wear one on myself if need be). As I finished a 1.5km long DH course the other day (this is in my neck of the woods) I was unfortunate enough as to bump into this lady who was holding her baby right in the middle of the road. The end of the trail is pretty much like massive boulders and small pebbles and it is very difficult either to change course or brake. In the end nothing happened as she got out of the way, but her husband was a little bit further down the same road holding another baby and I lost all my concentration. In the event of having to run some lady all over or kill myself, I think I'd rather kill myself, but it is also good to prevent things from happening and believe that accidents will happen anyway. Because I am confident in what I am doing, I do tend forget my full-face helmet at home along with my DH legs (I really hate sweating in those), but I honestly believe I am being stupid here. Proper equipment is the answer: it cannot be stressed more.

still those frames are uglier than all hell. whats up with that curve? im sure it rides good but it looks like a demo that hit head-on with a train.
  • + 2
That paint scheme makes it look like a Rocky Mountain Flatline. I like it

makes it look like a norco faze 1

Stylo OCT cranks... no Holzfeller parts on that bike!

And that´s cool!
  • + 1
yeah.. When I saw Holzfeller in the spec list I had to take a second look... I thought they were GXP Holzfellers!!

How strong are the Stylo OCT's? are they freeride-able?
  • + 2
The crank arms and axle are strong enought, the only concern is that Howitzer bb´s are 54% more durable than GXP (SRAM info).

For those that can change BB´s more often and are looking for a lighter package... I think it´s a great up-grade.

However, Hill, Peat and Minnaar are racing GXP Black Box protypes.

yeah yeah, i ride a few konas so come slate me, but jesus, that is one fcuk ugly bike, the down tube is just pure fail!

I tested one at the BikeRadar live the other day and they feel ok. You don't like it because of its curvy shape like form, but this is precisely the reason why we all like it. The only downside is it is perhaps a bit too heavy for my likes, but it is within range anyway if you come to think of it.
  • + 0
I'm not saying it's a bad bike in terms of performance at all mate, i've never ridden one, so can't compare it to any of the other bikes i'be straddled. it does look heavy (and i know my knoa's aint light light) my comments are only based on looks (in my opinion, some may like the look, and if you do, cool!)
i'd rather something lighter like a sunn or msc myself next...

ome sick norco, much better than the blue one Smile

nice norco, bit big for her but still nice! its good that it dont look similar to the other norcos which makes it nicer
  • + 0
can you honestly tell it's big for her from a picture??
  • + 0
check the last photo the frame fits her perfect , the prob is most ppl ride DH bikes that are way to small for them (thinking it makes them handle better) but end up being bucked and rattled and sent over the bars more often cos of the shorter wheel base

Interestingly i was having this conv with my gf last night (yep a 2 sided conv about it!). I was saying how good it was with the british riders doing well in WC's etc and mentioned Fionn and my gf said - yeah but she gets beaten by manon carpenter. This is true but doesn't this show that with fionn up there on the world stage just how good young manon is rather than how bad fionn is?
  • - 3
yeah it does show how good manon is it also shows fionn should'nt be up there and manon should be pushing her out.
  • + 0
ye that is true- unfair when better riders aren't gettin the level of support people like fion gets.

Steve smith beat Sam Hill last year at the US open. No one said Sam sucks.
  • + 1
Hobbnobs- do you really think fionn cares about little races when shes got world cups to go to.and if you still think your making a goood point how is it juveniles and half the youths are all faster than the current world cup leader an 07 world champ sabrina at local races and even nps. But yet at a Fort bill i dont think that many would do a 5:17 like she did. Mannon would most likely get smoked on world cup tracks by fionn.
  • + 1
and tbh fionn does 4x as well. shes had two 3rds and a 1st in the wc this year.
  • + 0
manon does 4x as well in is getting 1st's and 2nds..
