The Boss has set Tom a challenge, to race five pro mountain bike events in four days on one bike. It's Tom's first time to California so to add to his challenge, and make sure he got the full Sea Otter experience, he has to take on the races from the campground. What could go wrong?

 I would love to see a Blake vs. Tom thing. I think it would be interesting for viewers and readers. I also like to think that the presenters of GMBN and Pinkbike would be friends/get along. I imagine any animosity would be driven by the revenue side of GMBN and Pinkbike (marketing, investor, ceo). I doubt the presenters/writers/camera folks give a sh*t. @henryquinney would probably know more.

 I think Blake and GMBN took the win with this one. Perhaps less of a logistical nightmare without E-bike and DS but better bike choice with the Kona. Pinkbike results tell me that I shouldn't bring an enduro bike to an XC race OR a downhill race.

 It seems a "Mountain Bike Pentathlon" would be a cool idea for an event. XC, Enduro, Downhill, Uphill and I guess Marathon, all on the same bike. Change tires probably, but that's it. Would be interesting what types of bikes would be picked. Probably a light weight enduro bike would be best, or trail bike maybe. I dunno, makes me wonder.

 A definite "yes" from me. But then I also dream of an Olympic category where one athlete has to compete in every non-team sport. I do not even begin to know what sort of person could be that much of an "all-rounder", but I would love to see them try the pole-vault, weight lifting and floor gymnastics.

 I think you'd have to somehow weight the Enduro and DH results more otherwise the longer format styles will matter much more to the race results. Could be pretty cool idea if you figured out the right formula though

 Most impressed with the tire changes. I never would’ve made it out of camp in time to make any of the races. Also my hands would be all mashed up.

 Numbers are wrong. It was 6 events if you include the nighttime thing before the XC …. that has to be great prep right there?!

 So for the regular Joe, how much would those entry fees be for 5 races? $500? More?

We used to race multiple disciplines back in the day. The promoters even offered a small discount if you did. Then the promoters and insurance/judge fees for USACycling just kept bumping up the price until even a single race wasn't worth spending nearly $100 to race on a shorter and less challenging course than the years before.

 Fantastic work, Tom! Mental challenge, but love how you get in there and go for it. Absolute beast mode. I know it's easier siad than done making the video, but I could have watched an hour of that! Add in some racing with a bit of retrospective voice over. Given he was around, Levy post race interviews. If PB could afford him, bit of Wyn TV at the end. As always, looking forward to your next ridicuolous thing.

 I once raced DS, DH, and XC at a Seaotter. That was too much and too hectic for me. Super fun to do but running from my DS racers to my DH start time was too much. Still, Seaotter was one of the most fun races because you get to race the exact same cause the pro do and see just how much slower you are.

 Did the PB budget run dry so they couldn’t afford a hotel room and some proper food for Tom. Perhaps the 2 Mikes could have camped so the athlete could have the hotel space :-)

 I'd be curious to see what a XC pro could do on a 150mm hardtail with 3 sets of tires (DH, XC, road).

 @pmhobson: I'm just saying they wouldn't win. I beat "pro" enduro racers on my XC bike. In an enduro. So I'm sure a real pro could also. DH race, last. Road race with road tires, peleton finish.

 @DetroitCity: I don't think having a gear ratio smaller than than the inner ring on a road bike is going to get you anywhere but spat out the back the first time it heats up.

 Cool, I remember in an old Norba race near Spokane people did DH, XC, slalom, and trials on the same bike and there was an overall.

 Every time I change tires I have to re-rim tape. What am I doing wrong? It would have been easier for Tom to change full wheel sets.
