40 Hours

As winter sets in here in the Northwest, I do my best to take advantage of the few remaining weeks of riding. The season of bike adventure is slowly tapering, and the urgency to ride in the mountains deepens. With 40 hours of work separating me from the weekend, I'm not willing to wait. The time to ride is now. With the light fading quickly, I take advantage of a Monday afternoon after work - Skye Schillhammer

40 Hours video Transition Patrol
The conditions changed dramatically as I ascended Mt. Spokane, but that's the beauty of adventure!

40 Hours
Dense and cold fog followed blanketed the hillside, making for cold fingers and slippery trails.

Great cornering, but too cool to wear gloves?

I’d last about 5 minutes without gloves.

(Forgot to mention, great edit! I think most on this site can relate to itching for the weekend’s ride.)

 That was a sick edit

seriously!!!! my hands hurt just watching this!

Not when you film 30 seconds of footage, and then sit in the van for 30 mins reviewing it
  • 1 0
Riding Downhill without gloves in the snow...it would take 30min just to get feeling back into my hands in order to review the footage. Sweet edit!

Stuff small hand warmers into your bars with a pull string tied to them so you can pull them out. Helps keep hands a bit warmer when temps drop into the single digits. (Fahrenheit)

I was planning to made an edit called '70 hours' but it would be about 5 seconds and include little more than a go pro shot of me looking at my bike leaned against a garage wall soaked in the hopeless and neglectful tears of my working life pilgrimage.

I was very disappointed with the run time of the video

Understandable. We are always trying to make videos with more riding than intro/outro/filler. In this case, we only had these conditions for one dark, cold and short day. So we made the most of it.

Knowing the circumstances makes me more impressed that was a very well done and beautiful video!

Awesome man - I love this kind of shit. Gets me more excited to ride than a big slick production movie any day.

I Liked the fact that this guy has a 40 hour week in his job..
In my case , it's more like 60 before overtime .. so yeah , it is always great to ride on the weekend .
Great edit & looks like an awesome bike !!

@schilly ... how did you have access to the mountain? I've been wanting to go up there but don't they close the gate around the end of October? I'm a Spokane local myself!
  • 1 0
dunno how he did it, but pretty easy pedal up really.
  • 1 0
From the base? I've done that before and it's not the simplest of climbs.... I did some research and figure he parked at upper kit Carson road. So apparently the summit is closed but you can access trails halfway up the mtn
  • 1 0
No, not from the base. From that mid mountain yeah, not bad of a climb at all. Little bit of a grind if you're starting from the beach, but yeah not too bad from that parking lot.
  • 1 0
Pedaling up the road is one thing, but lugging 80 lbs of camera gear is not possible. We may have had some help with accessing the mountain after the gates were locked to the public Smile
  • 1 0
Ok, just so I'm clear for next season.... Come late October they lock the gate to the summit, but not the gate at the base right? So I could park at upper kit carson and ride up or down correct? Sorry just don't want to drive all the way up to see that the base it locked.

On a side note fantastic video. My personal favorite that I've seen over the past months. Shared on fb and favorited!

That's awesome! Glad you liked it! And yep you nailed it, they only close the summit rd

Recently, a dumbass coworker had put a very offensive comment on this post under my profile because I'm an idiot and left my account open at work. I apologize.

  • 1 0
im curious if that's the new trail that was roughly cut in this past summer/fall up on the kaN.
  • 1 0
It does include a few short sections of the new trail, not much of it is rideable yet though! By mid spring/summer we will have about 8 miles of it opened and ready for shredding.
  • 2 0
awesome, hope to get out to at least one of the building days to help pitch in. you always come through with dope videos
