With today’s Contest Day the FIAT Nine Knights entered its final stage. 23 athletes from ten different countries were eager to send it one more time to impress the judges in three different categories. At the end of the day Antoine Bizet (FRA) won the Best Trick award. The prize for the best line went to the friendly Canadian Geoff Gulevich and the winner of the Best Whip was crowd favourite Mads Makken Haugen from Norway.

More pro riders travelled to Livigno for the competition today to join the assembled Knights for a spectacular mountain bike show. Over 3000 spectators continuously cheered for the riders while enjoying the fantastic atmosphere at Mottolino Fun Mountain.

The contest had a relaxed jam-session-format and the sun beamed onto the perfect course all day.

While the Knights threw down one trick after another the jury had the difficult task of scoring every run of all 23 riders in three different categories: Best Trick, Best Line and Best Whip. Within two 90-minute sessions the riders showed various tricks, lines and combinations to the delight of the crowd.
The Nine Knights Riders
Antoine Bizet bagged the Best Trick after yet again stomping a double backflip on his downhill bike in the highly contested category. Adrian Tell – winner of the Online Video Qualification – repeatedly tried to land a cash roll with his fully, which would have also been a freeride-mountain bike first, but no avail.

Thomas Genon (BEL) was also in contention for the Best Trick with his attempt at a tailwhip to tuck-no-hander, yet this technical trick remained elusive. Best Line winner Geoff Gulevich started with a tabletop from the 7 m tower, sent a speed jump over the kicker, a one foot tabletop in the Freeride Section and topped it all off with a massive air on the hip. The Norwegian Viking, Mads Makken Haugen whipped way over 90 degrees and definitely earned the number one spot in the Best Whip category.

With tonight’s photo award ceremony and the nomination of the rulers of week, FIAT Nine Knights draws to a close and looks back on an amazing week. Watch the contest edit and stay tuned for the official FIAT Nine Knights Highlight Edit which will be released next Wednesday.

this event isn't the same without Soderstroms nac nacs
  • 35 10
In all honesty who gives a shit about the winning run that event looks like it would have been a blast to be at. Free riding ain't all about double and triple whips isn't it about getting out there and having fun shredding shit with your buds? This event looks like just that!

If they aren't doing slopestyle runs, how is this any different than someone hitting fat jumps? Some of the top pros could have at peast thrown down some runs a little less basic. The videos from last year's event were way more progressive than this.

Steve Smith got more points down PMB imo..
  • 4 5
Trying to make everything into a competition. #FreeRideIsDead
  • 2 2
you people don't realize how huge those jumps are do you? and who cares if they didn't do some insane shit, just as long your having fun and huking
  • 3 0
How is doing a double back flip on a downhill bike not progressive? I get that last year's video had more on each run but I'm more stoked on seeing the double flip.

Hey prince, I think it's 'cuz a double flip on an FMB is a double flip on an FMB, it's been old news in FMX for years now. It's old news in FSX for that matter. When someone double flips a 250 pound FMX, or a 350 pound FSX, it's somehow just not as big a deal on a 35 pound bicycle with comparable big hit capabilities. It's not any less impressive for us, but it's not really breaking new ground, it's more like "long over due".

Free-ride not to bash what your saying but the fmx guys have something helping them out in the form of throttle to help them get the rotations for the double. We don't have that buddy. Not trying to start an Internet pissing contest here.

rampchamp is right the hits there have been beefed up a lot this year and are some of the biggest outside rampage, which coincidentally is coming up quite soon. Soo what with massive hits and l riders on dh bikes looks like a bit of a rampage pre-practice, and shit loads of fun

Agreed. Disappointing winning run. Not expecting slopestyle tricks but they are on big bikes so classic big bike tricks not pancake tables.
  • 27 1
Not enough riding in the video in my opinion
  • 22 0
That double backflip on a full on DH bike was amazing
  • 21 0
 And insanely clean!
  • 3 2
Ya! to me, it seems that Bizet pins that landing better on his dh bike then his slope bike

 Next stop, Virgin Utah!
  • 1 1
That would be sick if he tried it there!
  • 26 5

ok let me be bad guy and say that: this is weak as hell. comparing to any other event (and last year edition), with all this hype before and huge espectations, this video seems like a joke, hopefully they did some better shots, remember last year video? it was insane.

  • 1 0
That is the competition video, from the public day. Edited together in less than an hour, so that you guys could see how the competition day went down as soon as possible. The full highlight edit of the entire week will drop in a few days!
  • 21 4
This is one of the sickest events in mountain biking. nuff said.
  • 6 0
9K seems way more relayed than any other event. Just a bunch of guys throwin' down and havin' fun!

Bizet better throw down the double flip at Rampage
  • 9 2
BEST FULL LINE??? ARE YOU f*ckING KIDDING ME??? SOME TABLETOPS AND ONE SUPERMAN SEATGRAB???
  • 8 1
Antoine Bizet, the first frenchman to win the Rampage since CG ?
  • 4 1
This shouldnt be a contested event, competition keeps the riders quiet and careful, this should a be focused on just video and photography so the riders can just all have fun making the sickest video of the year..
  • 2 0
So for everyone complaining about the video: This is the public competition day video, edited in an hour, so that you can get the recap as soon as possible. The full highlight video of the entire week will be dropping in a few days. It will be an insane video, trust me.

That whip was worthy of best whip. Pencil whips for the win.
  • 4 2
WTF!?!? Was that... Was expecting an edit and riding on par with the level of last year. Neg all you like that was dookie.
  • 1 0
So that you understand. That was the video of the public competition day. It was edited in less than an hour, no small feat. The full highlight video will drop in a few days time. Patience my friend.

I can respect the reply and not to shoot down someones work but it looked like the contest didn't compare to last year that's all.
  • 1 0
It was pretty damn windy, and most of the riders were hung over and tired from the whole week of shooting. I think many were keen to stay safe and not get hurt before rampage.
  • 4 1
I wanna see riding, not celebrating. Fiat owes me 2mins and 23 seconds
  • 1 0
That sure was "grand" Good job to everyone that made this work! Such a sick event!
  • 1 0

stevie smith could of won that event! no big tricks at all on the full run..

Why is this contest called nine knights? Seems like an odd name for a mountain bike event. What's the history?
  • 1 1
why the the hell is everbody riding Dh Bikes ? A Freeridebike with 180 mm Travel is way easier to handle
  • 1 1
If there was 23 riders in the finals, why does the video only feature 3? Pretty boring action, freeriding or not.
  • 1 0
 music: Alex F - Dead
