Video: A $600 Electronic Groupset, a Further Look at the KS Fork and Limited Run Brakes - Taipei Cycle Show 2023

Mar 24, 2023
by Henry Quinney

As the Taipei Cycle Show rolls on, we get stuck into some new additions to the range of KS Suspension, some handlebars and head tubes and bars for taller riders, as well as a $600 US electronic road groupset that could lay the framework for a mountain biking transmission in the summer.

@hamncheez: think the next batch that comes out, I’ll have to try a set! After watching his 30 min video run through of them, I’m really digging what they are!

€1000 for the pair though. You could have 4x Hoep Tech4 V4 for that
  • 14 2
@melonhead1145: I Hoep you know you can use only 2 per bike. Smile

@melonhead1145: some folks like Wilwood performance and others like powerstop…

@melonhead1145: €250 is a lot of money for imitation "Hoep" brakes...
"Rollex" watches go for under a €100!

The Reverb AXS actually only goes to 170mm, not 175. Gotta manage expectations.

GTFO...did you say e-balance bike? cannot drop that tease and not show it, lol

My toddler goes to a pretty demanding preschool, and has a lot of other important responsibilities like drawing, napping, throwing temper tantrums, etc. We find that he gets just as much practice balancing and rolling as his less-fortunate little friends who don't (yet) have e-balance bikes, but in the limited amount of time he has available. It's a game changer!

These have been around for a while now, they even have spec races for kids at most motocross/supercross events. They are huge in moto families for getting kids going early.

@VtVolk: LOL, thank you for that

@hamncheez: So, uh… e-bike bikers say it’s not an electric motorcycle because it has pedals. These e-balance bikes don’t have any pedals at all. Ball’s in your court…

@st-lupo: They have a throttle. They move without pedaling. You don’t have to like or ride ebikes, but they aren’t going away so its time to move on.

@endoguru: I can still hate things that won't go away.

@endoguru: I hate people driving and texting. It's not going away either.

@endoguru: that's an interesting perspective on what are literally low powered motorcycles or at best mopeds.
Just like trail advocacy and land access, if enough of us make enough noise they will end up being classified as the motorized cycles they are.

I don't mind e-balance bikes for old or physically challenged preschoolers. As long as they learn path etiquette.

@VtVolk: Decent sarcasm but the irony sublime. Live Free or Die!

Sorry you couldn't find us. I'm not there, but we have a booth within a booth. L0528, Nangang Hall 1, 4F. Corner booth next to Continental.

It would actually be really good if more people knew about the KHS XXL bikes past their long headtubes. There are no other stock options available for anyone over 6'5" and the 747 Road and BNT MTB are about the only 'affordable' offerings before things hit custom builders like DirtySixer, Zinn (who designed the KHS) or Nicolai.

While there are certain compromises on many XS bikes, there are at least good performance options. The world of MTB for the very tall is a grim place indeed. I saw what my 6' 10" friend's local shop did to stuff him onto a stock XL just to sell a bike, and it made me want to go kick everyone there in the junk. Tall folk deserve better.

I wonder how many times he pronounced it wrong before the guys at the L-TWOO booth corrected him. Good manufacturing quality though.Tange tubing had to do that also. Everyone in bike stores in english speaking countries think its like you say, Flange... but its actually pronouncedTong Gay. Back to L-Twoo, I got their GR7 1x10 gravel mechanical brifter and rear derailleur set delivered to Ottawa from AliExpress for $124 CAD. Now it doesn't have a clutch in the derailleur at that price but it is compatible with up to a 50T cog and there is a fairly strong spring in the cage to maintain chain tension. Their 1x12 gravel group however does have a clutch in its derailleur, and can be had with hydraulic brake calipers for about $500 CAD.

I’ve never used any of their stuff but have only heard good things from people on the chinertown forums

Tange is a Japanese company, so pronounced tan-geh, not tong-gay. The latter reminds me of some Northern English martial arts folk mangling Japanese with their broad Yorkshire accents. Big Grin

Tan has a different pronounciation in stuck up southern england apparently than North america...

A true shame not highlighting the Totem’s highly anticipated and long awaited return. Unless it was a not-so-subtle Easter egg at the end… tomorrow? Wink

Careful about calling any other drivetrain a 'transmission' now. SRAM lawyers are on the prowl I'm sure.

It’s about time they came out with a hydraulic quick connect! We’ve been using them in the heavy equipment and excavation industry for 30 or more years!

 E-Balance bikes!? WTF
  • 1 0
Stacyc has been making them for awhile now.
  • 2 0
Stacyc are pretty popular here in the USA. Putting my kid on one as a toddler and taking him on tons of rides with a MacRide seat were mazing for jumpstarting his passion for riding and skillset.
