Video: Aaron Gwin Has a New Sponsor for... Chamois?

Mar 26, 2021
by James Smurthwaite

In a move that will surely chafe his rivals, Aaron Gwin has announced his new sponsor for 2021 - Nezium chamois.

Gwin is known for his raw speed and he doesn't want to taint that with subpar undercarriage protection. This definitely isn't a rash decision though as it's a piece of kit Gwin says he felt was "always missing" from his set up.

Gwin will now be riding the new Game Changer 2.0 line of shorts for 2021 and beyond. The short is made from 85% Polyester and 15% Spandex with a premium high-density foam pad that's said to give "superior protection, comfort, and longevity". It has a thigh pocket for a phone or snack and a back pocket that is designed for smaller items like keys but Gwin uses to store his bottle. The shorts are available now for $79.99 with a women's version called The Guthrie also available at the same price.

bigquotesIt’s been awesome to work with Nezium to develop this new line of products. It’s something that I felt was always missing for me and now I have a super comfortable chamois to wear in any type of riding I do.Aaron Gwin, Intense Factory Racing

bigquotesWe are so excited to officially welcome Aaron Gwin to the Nezium family. Aaron has been a longtime friend of the brand and believer in the product since day one and we are thrilled to partner with such an incredibly talented rider like Aaron.Justin Fierro, Nezium Founder and CEO

man, I was just about to say that!

@cougar797: true but we could be seeing the tail-end of a rawer situation between these guys.

 @jmhills: Taint that the truth.

Longer in the leg..... ANOTHER new standard.

I'm not interested in Gwin's shorts or undercarriage, but the pun drew me straight in.

@jamessmurthwaite: There is something fishy undergirding this piece of journalism, with its pedaling of sponsorship-bolstered junk, thrust into the public eye. I’m surprised you haven’t been excoriated for this sham.
  • 4 3
@jamessmurthwaite: in a nutshell, you sir, should be sacked.

@jmhills: I think you mean wordsmurthing...

speaking of smurf, red chamois, red hat and we got papa smurf!

Having huge balls like him, I would want protection there also.
  • 9 0
I think it's more about the ball to inner thigh interface
  • 34 0
He's using the shorts to protect the bike form his steel balls.
  • 2 0
Balls of steel need protection?! Wink
  • 2 0
Gwin's saddle is getting sponsored by a chamois co. to get protection from big balls.

2011 WChamps "how does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?!"- Nezium, the secret is out

Bit early for April fools no?
  • 2 0
 So just fools then

I laughed at the game changer language and imagining poor Aaron suffering terribly for years in subpar, diaper like chamois for years, but these don't look bad and are priced less than many premium chamois options. I'd try some on sale then annoy my wife and riding buddies with inserting game changer puns into everything.

Bike industry folk love game changers.

 Ballsy move

Downhill racer wearing padded underwear on an E-bike... all I took from this is someone is getting close to retirement.
  • 1 0
Bikers wear chamois. Some even ride e bikes. He still can rip apart people half his age. Just sayin'
  • 7 0
It really burns me that he didn't get supported years ago. At any rate, cheers Aaron, I raise my cup to you!

Every time I see this brand name, I think:

"Ask your doctor about Nezium"

'Side effects may include. . .'

 @jeremiahwas: sweaty balls

"Gwin is known for his raw speed and he doesn't want to taint that with subpar undercarriage protection. "

Comment gold goes to you sir.

What a nut bag. This guy will sell his body to stay sponsored. It’s time to give guys down stairs a rest and tea bag some fans.

The maintenance and insurance on a 911 GT3 are somewhat costly.
  • 3 0
@Snowytrail: Yeah its even more for his McLaren P1
  • 1 0
There is little money left. You have to do what you need to do to stay in the game. He is running his own team and trying to fund two other riders (who have not really produced on a bid stage). If chamois keeps the money coming in then sell that stuff.

Just because my bike doesn't have a water bottle mount doesn't mean my next thought is, "I'll just put it in the back of my pants". No one is riding with a bottle at the top of their crack.
  • 3 1
I think the design here is a little silly, but I really do like my og Specialized Swat bibs. Nice to put a bottle in one of the pockets.
  • 17 0
Really? I regularly ride one in the back of the shorts, you must have never ridden a downhill bike... that is the only valid way to transport water on a dh rig
  • 3 0
 @lucacometti: straight up
That’s how do it when spending the day on the DH
  • 3 0
Everybody racing downhill puts water bottle on waste in back on those hot days
  • 5 0
0:52: oh god, please don't put your keys in that middle-back pocket, right against your spine...
  • 4 0
Yeah, thinking of Aaron Gwinn's sweaty junk while eating day old pizza...ooooh look, an olive!
  • 2 0
Love the Gwiner, but is he ever sitting down? Any chamois works on a DH eBike. AG developed brakes and tires I understand ... chains or chamois, not so much.
  • 1 0
These world cup DH guys ride seated a lot, we mainly see race day only. But I know there are endless days and miles on road bikes, gravel, trainers, XC bikes, trail, ebike, etc.
  • 4 0
Watch out for those preproduction Chamois tho
  • 3 0
Doesn't actually sit down once in the advert, nicely done.
  • 1 0
 24 seconds, 38, 50...
  • 3 0
 Where my commando riders at??
  • 32 0
Probably the pharmacy, looking for rash ointments.
  • 3 0
Or the ER department getting their sack stitched up after getting it caught on the nose of the seat.

(Yes, I found out the hard way..)
  • 3 0
heh see these bad boys under my shorts?? same as Gwin
  • 3 0
Thats the first time I've seen taint used in a pun haha
  • 1 0
How much does a chamois manufacturer have to pay Aaron Gwinn to push their product? And how many chamois do they have to sell to make a positive ROI on that? Lol
  • 1 0
I’m not saying launching an unknown chamois brand is smart, but if you’re going to, sponsoring Gwinn is the way to do it.

I’m guessing it’s a pretty high margin product. Probably in the range of 70% margins. So it’s all about standing out from the competition.

Sure, you could be one of the 500 other brands sponsoring road cyclists, but why not to big with Gwinn?

It’s the reason we’re talking about it. Idk how much it cost, but I expect it’s worth it.
  • 6 4
He's a Qanon believer so perhaps he took the first deal they offered
  • 1 0
@peterman1234: For real??? Damn that information really chaps my ass. A massive bummer if true.
  • 3 0
But how is it really pronouced? Shammy? Cam-wah? Cham-oys? Sham wow?
  • 1 0
Wow as if mtb was not already a marketing machine, now we have Mr. Gwynn repping under garments! Mic drop, I am just going to go riding.
  • 1 0
Hey kids, this chammy is going to make you like 5% faster on the downhills!
  • 2 0
Got some of these, they’re nice. Kind of a hybrid between chamois and compression shorts.
  • 1 0
Hey marketing team... Maybe Aaron should be bombing his hometown trails on a hardtail. people don't get that chafed riding DH on a ebike
  • 1 0
Honestly climbing or road riding would’ve been best. If you’re getting after it on a hardtail, your butt is up off the seat so you can use your legs as suspension.
  • 2 0
Congrats on the Nezium sponsorship, Aaron! Gonna pick me up some.
  • 7 0
More like "congrats Nezium for getting Gwin."
  • 1 0
@HB208: I stand corrected. Absolutely! Congrats Nezium for landing the Eagle!
  • 1 0
Jeez, $80? Club Ride has very nice Chamois for a good deal cheaper and they run sales every so often.
  • 2 0
So does that mean game changer v1.0 wasn't very game-changey?
  • 3 0
 Can it prevent flats?
  • 3 0
 Flat balls maybe.
  • 2 0
 Game changer for your periNezium.

  • 2 0

he needs that extra protection for his big balls of steal because he the fastest baddest rider around
  • 1 0
Chafe? Rash? What about his blistering speed and soreing aerials?
  • 1 0
Makes complete sense. You do a lot of seated riding when doing downhills.
  • 4 0
Downhill specific chamois. They won’t ride up.
