I love this guy. He's the living proof that if you're good, you're going to be good no matter what you ride and if you suck, well, forget the hype... no amount of 650b, high tech dampers, carbon or cassette cogs will save you.
I have never not watched a new Chris Akrigg video 5x in a row. He is the most entertaining dude in all of biking. And his bike handling is downright godlike. Everything he does is fucking surgical, no matter what bike he's on! So much respect.
While Chris is definitely very skilled, I'm more amazed by his STYLE. Every bike he takes in any conditions simply flies under Akrigg. It's like... MAGIC! He sold his soul to Satan, I'm 146% sure!
Aside from this guy's mind boggling skills on a bike, the sheer strength needed to do half if the stuff he was doing just blows my mind. But at the end of the day, it's still an odd way to enjoy riding in the woods. But to each their own I say. It ain't my cup of tea but I know good riding when I see it & that guy was shredding for sure. Nice work man, keep shredding.
Cyclocross is like religion, something left over from the past that made no sense then & makes less sense now that has been supplanted & rightfully so by the right things as a result of slow & steady evolutionary processes.
Additionally, Chris Akrigg is one of the few mofos out there that I'm willing to tolerate that clunky, broken, borderline f*cking useless Vimeo player for. Whatever that was, it was f*cking awesome my man!
Good to see disc brakes in cyclocross now. Just need to ditch the drop bars and I'll ride one. Used to have a custom built disc brake cyclocross wheelset on my crosscountry hard tail. Worked brilliantly on anything but sand. Dunno why these crosscountry racers on 29ers don't save a ton of weight and use cyclocross tyres.
If it's winter and you live in flat, muddy flanders, then no push bike can get you around faster than a cx bike. Never thought those long stems and drop bars would be nimble riding singletrack too. Only niggle is flat tires. Wonder how many Akrigg suffered during this shoot. Looks amazing anyway so fair play to the man!
I've often wondered how they trials guys actually do in races. Seems like much of this type of riding is a lot of strength and skill, but wouldn't get worn out doing in an actual race?
Yeah he's raced the minidrome, won the Frome uphill cobble climb on a singlespeed, has won Masters cat. DH races in UK and am sure plenty of trials (bike and moto) and other comps. An absolute beast on any bike, but with so much skill and control while doing it. I think the word legend is deserved here!
Was thinking about that one to @briceps. He finished a couple of places in front of me (around 160), but i think he must have lost a lot of time with that seat, because he is sooooo much better than me ;o) I saw him and his mangled seat, but didn't realize it was him (maybe i was a little bit tired!) before i saw the video!
WOW! I have NEVER seen an Akrigg video that HASN'T left me in awe of the guy and his skills... Get him in a pro level BMX race and we'll have seen him kill it in about all forms of off road riding.
i think hes looks so fast when he make fast switchback because of the big size of wheels and verry thin tyre. its look like hes cutting the trail by a sharf knife. its verry nice edit and hes skill on his bike.
Cyclocross is the dumbest bike-sport I've seen. Looks uncomfortable, and the people that I know that ride those stupid bikes are generally stuck up dorks, with silly labels all over thier tights, and have poor trail manners. They are also smoothing out the trails and removing jumps and obstacles on our local trails, with chainsaws and shovels. Stick to the streets, and leave the big jumps on the trails for us...
you poor poor man- so blind and full of hate - just chill little French dude and admire - dont diss, hate is to be reserved for popular media hungry bitch celebrities, only love should fall on those with true talents .. and Mr Akrigg is truly a talented man
Yes highly skilled, but personally bored of watching novelty vids of shit hot riders using bikes not meant for the discipline being shown apparently just to stroke their own ego's. Ok it can be done and was shown at it's best in Road Bike Party, but enough now. I'd much rather see Chris really throw down on his natural bike in a setting where it's meant to be used. Idea for next project, penny farthing on a half pipe.
Riding any bike for a purpose other than to, from or work related is senseless. That's the whole freeking point!
Do something fun and in this case, super challenging, just for the hell of it.
Lighten up. Life is too short for hate.
(you know, Eli's dad)
Now do it with the saddle up
:-))

Well, to hard for me, I will stick to enduro :-)
"ride like akrigg does, dont need another wish"
100% Respect for skills and execution.
Why ride XC on an adapted road bike when you can ride XC on an XC bike :/
