RD #2 of the 2023 We Are One Canadian Enduro League Presented by Leatt was a hot one! With six stages, 220+ racers, and 30+ degrees, the stage was set for one hell of a weekend!

Race Recap

The Fire In The Mountains Enduro has been a crowd-pleaser since its inception. Not only is it an epic event, but it is also a fundraiser for the West Kelowna Professional Firefighters Charity, which supports great local initiatives like the BC Burn Fund, The Boys and Girls Club, C.R.I.S. (Community Recreation Incentive Society), and more. We're incredibly proud to be able to partner with this event.

As well over 220 racers descended on the Smith Creek Trails, what awaited them was six stages, just over 34km, and around 1500m of climbing. With temperatures soaring, this would turn out to be a much harder day than it looked on paper. With a who's who of local talent on deck, as well as EDR Pro racers Eddie Masters and Emmett Hancock, everyone was in for a great day of racing.

The racing was just as hot as the weather this weekend! On the U19 side of things, Tayte Proulx-Roydes took a clean sweep of stages for the girls, just ahead of Ruby Dinn and Josie Diplock in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Unbelievably the top 5 U19 men were separated by only 11 seconds, with the top 3 separated by only 3 seconds! After a long day in the saddle, Jaxon Blake finally emerged as the winner. One thing is for sure, the future of enduro in Canada is in good hands. After a total race time of 21:01.4, Chloe McKenzie claimed top honors for the Pro Women, with Keira Flanagan fighting it out right to the very end to claim 2nd, and We Are One's own Jennifer McHugh rounding out the top 3. Eddie Masters, Emmett Hancock, and Noah Rubuliak battled it out day long for the Pro Men, with all three claiming 2 stage wins a piece. Once the dust settled, it was the EDR veteran, Eddie Masters, that took the win by just 5 seconds, with Emmett in 2nd and Noah 3rd. This was one of the most exciting weekends of racing yet! The best part is we get to do it all again in 2 weeks for RD #3.

This weekend over $20,000 was raised for charity, and it's all down to you guys! We're absolutely blown away. A massive thank you to the West Kelowna Trail Crew, Local 4456 Professional Firefighters Charitable Society, our volunteers, and all of the riders for coming out and making this a weekend to remember.

West Kelowna Firefighters Association

A massive thanks to the Local 4457 Professional Firefighters Charitable Society and the West Kelowna Trail Crew. The Fire In The Mountains Enduro has always been, and still is, a fundraiser for the West Kelowna Professional Firefighters (WKFR) Charity, helping to raise funds for the BC Burn Fund, the Boys and Girl Club, C.R.I.S. (Community Recreation Incentive Society) and local initiatives including the West Kelowna Trail Crew (WKTC).

Alongside the main event, IAAF members were also added to a separate category to see how they stacked up against each other. This was quite possibly the hottest category of the weekend! Heather Campbell and Evan Guthrie claimed bragging rights for their respective categories, a result we know they won't let anyone forget.

Volunteers

These events do not happen without our dedicated volunteers! They are quite literally the backbone of the event. A huge thank you goes out to all of the volunteers that have already signed up to help out. If you're interested in volunteering at some of our events, please reach out and let us know how we can make your summer exceptional!

We're always looking for the following:
• Course Sweep
• Food Station
• Course Marshals
• Registration Table - Early start, early finish, interacting with the riders
• First-Aid - Must be comfortable with hiking/biking to your spot and be a minimum of WFR. We do offer paid positions.
• Finish Line Support - Hang out at the finish line

What we offer:
• Free entry to any race this year! If redeeming for your kids/spouse, you'll receive 75% off.
• Free lunch, snacks, and drinks.
• 40% discount code from the legends at Leatt.

If this sounds like you, register here as a volunteer.

Looks like 5 on the podiums in pro Women and Mens. Maybe 4th and 5th could get a mention.

I’m just a never was-washed up DH guy. So I appreciate being able to sneak onto a podium outside the top 3. So I pushed 4th and 5th up for the photos. Not really CEL’s deal.

But! By popular demand;
1-Ed Masters
2-Emmett Hancock
3-Noah Rubuliak
4-Evan Guthrie (career fire fighter for city of Penticton)
5-Spencer Graf (career fire fighter for city of West Kelowna)

1-Chloe McKenzie
2-Keira Flanagan
3-Ella Hoskin
4-Alix Varcol
5-Mia Serratore

Special nod to Tayte PROULX-ROYDS for being the fastest u19, and a time good enough for 5th in elite!

@anthony3vans: Thanks Anthony, Hey I've seen you win a race. Good to see Spencer a) has a job and b) can still get on the podium.
Nice work on the race weekend.
