Jesus - he literally fell off of a cliff!!! Aaaaand then got back up again......he just dusted himself off....and got up again......in the way I would if I had a little OTB incident! wtf?! Super human!!!
There was live coverage. The site was posted in the comments of the results article. It was very evidently a test run for the staff, equipment, cameras and angles. Very raw to watch and not at the level of coverage that would have been widely accepted, not a wonder why it was not marketed by Redbulltv, but it was available.
Is that a Freeride or Slopestyle event? When RBR began 10 years ago it was a freeride event. This looks like a big slopestyle session in the middle of the desert, it is an amazing show but i think is loosing it´s essence every year.
Some of the lines are groomed, but then some of the features are really just worked enough to actually make them (at least close to) ridable - like Vink's cliff, doerfling's drop. Bizet showed a good mix of big mountain and insane tricks, Reynolds has impressive big-bike skills for essentially a pure DJ expert, and then there's good representation from the "free racer" crowd with Brendog, Remy, Pierre, etc.
I mean, must be exciting to be there in the public watching them fly over the lines but i don´t know... it looks like a big bike park. Miss good days with Kinrade, Simmons, Tyler T, etc. I remember when Kyle did a No-Hander in the canyon gap, that was terrific, too much hype for that days. And yes, i think it can be both but that´s why we have Crankwors and Kokanee. This event just shows and push riders to their limits in a big area modified in order to see riders performance. I totally agree there is a bunch of skills on every rider, i must say i´m very impressed. I remember when riders on the first editions, always kept looking for the best line without a design on the trails, just a natural line, what i can see here, it is a complete scenario.
Can anybody from the area say how many mountains in the area are like the current Rampage site - arena type, steep, with multiple ridges, cliffbands, with existing access roads, offering the height difference etc... Bref, is the Rampage site unique or are there 10 others just like it nearby?
They have moved locations a couple times over the years. There's also a National Park you can't ride in (off trail) to the east, but there is plenty of terrain like that in Utah. So yes, that is not a singularity, but I'm not sure about road access (speculative, but probably one of the reasons this site is used is there's a decent road for all the equipment). You load up some 4 wheelers, you'll be alright. It's hike and ride terrain, not even push runs, I'm talking bike on your shoulders, if you are going for a DH trip.
oh yea. duh. still nutty line. i wonder if anyone will try to hit it today.... is it line poaching if the owner of the line isnt in contention anymore?
Bizet showed a good mix of big mountain and insane tricks, Reynolds has impressive big-bike skills for essentially a pure DJ expert, and then there's good representation from the "free racer" crowd with Brendog, Remy, Pierre, etc.
So in short - can't it be both?
