Round 1 of the Shimano British Downhill Series kicked off today at Antur Stiniog. Come on board with Danny Hart and Josh Bryceland as Fox Head brings you the track from their point of view.
knew from the start it was all about the sponsorship, think they played it wrong and once they seen the outcry from most riders they backtracked slightly to allow camera's in practice. all about the £££
Best Helmet Cam of a race run I've ever seen. The turn by turn description by the two riders is ideal. Well edited and the lads did really well in their descriptions and head movements.
I think the track looks pretty tough, especially given that GoPro makes everything look easier than it is... And I grew up listening to Monty Python - so I caught everything Danny and the Rat were trying to say...something about "blessed are the cheesemakers..."
"...little pedal section here...some more pedalling through there...you just gotta mash the pedals here....gonna find out who's been training...." And here I thought this was a DH course... my bad.
I know that video never does trail features justice, but this looks like it would be more suitable on an AM bike rather than DH.
Correct me if I'm wrong
I'll correct you. You are wrong. This track is really good and has large wheel eating holes (for all wheel sizes) . All the elites were loving it. Also for anyone who say it's to enduro because of the short up hill it's not. It's a element that separated the fit from the unfit and made the race very interesting. The actual uphill was less that 100 feet long but you had to hold speed into it from the turn before.
Ye, I've ridden this a few times, even on a HT. It is definitely quicker on a DH bike, the majority of it is very rough, steep and plenty of places where a full on DH rig is way better than an enduro bike. Like LKTV said, the uphill/flat is very short in comparison to the whole track and it does help separate fit from unfit riders right at the end! When you see/ride it in reality, it is definitely not Enduro
I think that's reasonable, because even those of us who speak English as our primary language find this pair hard to understand. Here's what they said:
What Josh says: When a rock garden comes up, he says "Pre-jump the rock garden." When a corner comes up, he says "Gotta carry speed out of the corner" When we can see Danny, he says "Danny is riding like a champ"
What Danny says: Something about carpet, maybe. Talks about herrings, probably not, but that's what it sounds like. Then he said 'Hey Josh, do you lift, bro?" but I'm not quite sure.
From the description I thought the track would be more interesting. More drops into corners, corners into drops, off camber turns. Danny knows what he's doing by avoiding all those dumb rock bermed corners and sloshing through the mud and ungroomed shag on the insides of the corners. Shows you what he thinks of the course designers who put all that work into building crap that no one rides.
Every time a guy comes on here and trashes a course as too flat, too wide, too enduro or do-able on a hard tail, I love to check their profiles to see what real DH tracks they ride...
"I only ride park"
Top work as always Jono!
