It's not just the EWS racers who are fighting against the wet conditions this weekend. With practice, qualifying and racing all in one day the riders at this weekends French DH Cup should be well adjusted to the slippery conditions by the time they cross the line at the end of the day.
I was at the event, which was very well organised in difficult monsoon conditions (although bizarrely the hundreds of riders had to queue for an hour for only 2 bike wash spots because of the "drought"!). Amazing to see the speed of world class riders on a trail I know well. That road gap around 1.30 into a sharp turn in particular was incredible to see. Also a lot of very good young riders on show...France has a good pipeline of future world class riders!
The track fully changed. The 93 original track still there, more on the left side of Metabief, feels like a blue enduro track now, as the bikes evolved so much. The new race track is on the right side, way faster, technical and modern. It would have been pretty much impossible to ride it back in 93!
