Video: Martin Vinje

It has been 5 months since the first time he ever performed this trick back at Audi Nines in Germany, and Bienvenido was stoked to bring this to the table for his Darkfest debut. After dreaming about an invitation to a Fest Series event for the past few years, Bienvenido was beyond stoked when Sam put him on the list for the 2020 iteration of Darkfest.

After taking some runs to warm up on the step up, he took some deep breaths and went for it, his second ever try at a Frontflip Tsunami. Talking to him about how it felt, Bienvenido said: "I'm more scared when I'm hitting big jumps for the first time than doing tricks on a jump I'm comfortable with, but when I did it it was such a huge sense of relief."

bigquotesI love doing front flips and tsunamis, so I wanted to put it together, plus no one had done it before. When I landed it the excitement of everyone was insane, they went crazy. The feeling of seeing everyone so stoked was even better than the feeling I got of landing it! Fest is Best!

 One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen done on a DH bike!!

 Yes. But why do Youtube or Vimeo not get it??? Just turn it and remove the black.
  • 8 0
 @yoobee: Nein, einfach NEIN!
  • 5 0
 @yoobee: well, because u still lose all that surrounding landscape footage from original dumb vertical vid! Turn ur phone!

 No way man, this is for next generation lazy. Now we no longer have to sit upright to watch videos. I can now just lie down and it looks perfect on the computer screen. Only downside it that the comment section is now all Chinese to me. What did I just write?
  • 10 5
 This seems to be an appropriate use of vertical filming. If you film landscape you'd probably end up losing where he is in relation to the ground
  • 13 0
 It’s for the gram bruh
  • 1 0
 @Rokcore: Pan out
  • 5 4
 Or, watch on your phone and it’s perfect.
  • 3 1
 @Rokcore: I disagree. We're looking at 50% unnecessary sky in the video. Arguably, though, the framing would be tight and the person behind the phone was probably concerned about missing the shot.

While we're making a best practice list, I'd also like to see the full stunt at full speed and then the full stunt at slow-mo rather than slo-mo airtime with the landing at full speed, which then looks harsh.

 Holy f*ck, do peeps honestly think the videographer in question was trying to win an Oscar with this one? These days we have people handling camera equipment even without full education, certification and accreditation. Don't worry, no inch of valuable 16mm film has been harmed in the making of this video.
  • 6 2
 We are viewing phones nowadays so it looks perfect. Maybe the gaming PC you built from mailorder parts with a purple neon gas CPU cooling system is the real problem.
  • 4 2
 Just watch it and stop winging !!!!!!!!!!
  • 1 0
 @tripleultrasuperboostplusplus: Yes but he is moving up and down through the shot. He moves through nearly 2/3 of the image which draws attention to the elevation change. To me, the fish eye photo gives the sense he is traversing to the landing and the video gives a sense that he's ascending into the sky. I see it working either way depending on the shot so it's just a matter of preference. If the guy filming was 20 ft to the right and lower down on the slope it would have been a great vertical poster of 0:05 seconds in
  • 1 0
 The media industry should take responsibility and go out and say that they pay only 50% of what the footage is worth if it is shot vertically. (To be fair, it should be just 10%.)
  • 1 0
 *double reply*
  • 2 0
 Being the guy who shot the clip i can tell you that the main reason for vertical was that I was shooting for Instagram story. Then the clip got shared on other platforms, and the clip still fits perfect on a mobile screen, so it's mostly a computer/TV issue. Relax though. Loads of professional videographers got the shot in proper horisontal mode, so nothing got lost ????

 @sykkel-martin: You are part of the problem! I do not have a solution to fix Instawham stories. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. XOXO

 This just in: Bienvenidos testicles will be flying home via cargo plane.

 Where's the real time footage?

 cannot stand when we only get slow mo.

 @jaycubzz: you poor thing Frown
  • 2 0
 @ridelife6: thanks for the kind words

 I don't think that many people even realize how incredible this is. Like, theres not even that many people that can do a Tsunami flip at all, let alone on a mountainbike. And this one's even a front flip. Mind blown. To say that this is anything but fully next level would be a gross understatement.
  • 13 1
 But did he land it though...? I'd have to say you need to at least ride it out to stick the landing. Just askin. For a friend of course.
  • 2 1
 That jump doesn’t have much runout
  • 11 0
 no, he didn't land it. his feet blew off.
  • 2 2
 There is almost zero runout and I would probably want to celebrate still being alive with an immediate dismount, too.
  • 3 2
 No he didn’t. It’s damn impressive for sure but if this was something where ‘landing it’ mattered, like if he was claiming to be the first ever to land the trick, I’d think everyone would agree this would not count.

 @manglermixer: "MARK IT ZERO!"

 This should be in a Physics class lesson book..... how the fuk does the bike rotate back to his feet ??
  • 3 0
 Angular momentum?
  • 11 1
 He's got them little "flip bar" attachments FMX guys use
  • 14 2
 @BusterM: errr, no. I think you'll find it was done with magnets, mirrors and fans.
  • 1 0
 @BusterM: didn’t notice that before - thx
  • 1 0
 Physics question: how does the bike come around? I truly don’t get it. I assume you grab the brakes and that transfers the rotation (angular momentum) of the wheels into the whole bike??? Either that or I’m going with magic.
  • 4 0
 The most impressive part is the extension, he went fully vertical.
  • 2 0
 Wow very gymnastical, although sack-of-potatoes front flip landings make me cringe for the cervical spine. Huck neck is no fun later in life.
  • 1 1
 Insane, really insane. Everything here is insane, and what also is insane is the poor level of content we can see of such an event. I understand you, guys at FEST, want to get their hands on the communication, allright, but that's a pity to do not have a better coverage. I am pretty sure there is so much to see. My Monday frustration....
  • 4 0
 And his bike didn't snap
  • 2 1
 Haha was thinking the same thing. I carried his broken bike down the rampage course last year. Good times.
  • 2 0
 His name is translated welcome water? Maybe it’s a nickname? Dope trick regardless.
  • 2 0
 Watered Welcome
  • 1 1
 Sorry to tell you but he did not land it . It was an amazing flight and calculated but it doesn't count as a complete trick without a clean landing riding away with feet on the pedals.
  • 3 0
 On a DH bike no less
  • 1 0
 Of course he could do it If I could ride in slow motion I could do all the tricks. Hahahaha sick flip
  • 1 0
 What's on at the dark fest? Lots of people who where invited did not come.... Less media footage?
  • 2 0
 thats sick!
  • 1 0
 Wow! What did I just see? You mean that crazy stunt actually has a name???

  • 1 0
 That was a backflip though, no?
  • 1 0
 @Milko3D: Yup sure was, Looks better tho, because Symon gets the full extension going on. Like his feet hit his rear tyre... Insane!
