Video: Brendan Fairclough Shreds 4 Bikes in the Surrey Hills

Jul 17, 2020
by SCOTT Sports

4 bikes. A 10 mile radius from home. We asked Brendan Fairclough to set out to film the best edit he could in the illustrious Surrey Hills in the south of England, the world's best trails (if you ask him!)

The result? Chasing Trail Ep. 30 - The Fairclough Masterclass

I feel like Fairclough is single-handedly keeping Scott relevant. Yes they win all the races etc, but they don't come across as fun to ride until you see Brendan on one!

so true. He's earning his salary from them for sure. My first bike I craved and got was a Scott Timber, around 1990. It wasn't even for mtb, I didn't have a clue what that was but god damn I loved that second hand bike.

Scott has SOOOO many bad ass riders on their roster but Brendan certainly takes the cake as he's the guy who inspires me to ride! @SCOTT-Sports better take care of him!!

Nope, Scott have always had killers on their team. I can’t remember any point in history when Scott wasn’t relevant but they need to stop sponsoring all these youtube / Instagram whores who can’t ride though.

@thenotoriousmic: Paul the Punter *cough cough*

@Fullsend2-13: I’ve seen a few different guys doing a wobbly dad mountain biking for the first time on a hire bike impression on full EWS race bikes and quite a lot of them have been on Scott.

@thenotoriousmic: Well, Brendog now has his own Youtube channel and soon there will be plenty more pro level Scott riders joining the Youtube scene. All in good time.

However, not everyone wants to watch pro level riders ride all the time. I think the reason why Youtuber's like Paul the Punter and BKXC have become successful on YouTube is due to the fact that a lot of riders can relate to them. Or they feel like that's a level they can one day reach. Regardless, it's still exposure for the brand which equals more sales.

I live in Hampshire about an hour or so from these spots; he's so right about making the most of your local trails. We may not have mountains, steep rocky trails or huge bike park terrain but with good trail building there is a world of great riding to be had. The latest crop of short travel bikes coming out are well suited to this type of stuff. Forget flying/driving for hours every week to get to a mountain - make the most of what's on your doorstep.

 nice outkast reference

@funkzander: Most Outkast references are nice references.

Great to see home turf being ridden by a pro. Still not found some of those trails. That's why I love biking over all other sports, there is always stuff to ride where ever you are. Get exploring , there is a whole lot more than just the same over used spots.

Progate has now been annexed into Surrey! prices will shortly shoot up...
  • 2 0
West Sussex is expensive enough already!

@tremeer023: He should recognise that full DH is the only option for any serious rider there!

@flaflow: I don't know about that but it was definitely the clumsiest ad I saw yesterday.

@boozed: Tongue in cheek humour isn't it. I liked it.

I can watch brendog ride pretty much endlessly. Really, just give me the raw footage stitched together, i dont care if it's 3 hours long Smile

The Ransom and Genius had their twinloc removed/regular Fox fork installed, ain’t that telling
  • 7 1
It's almost like pros have their own setups built up from a frame.

cool vid. amazing its only 3hrs drive from all he slop up north... does prove that nobody needs all those bikes tho. you would be happy with just the Genius and the Voltage...

I love that he couldn't bothered riding his DH bike Razz Cool video, could have done without the weird narrator bits.
  • 3 2
More that he could not be bothered pushing his DH bike up to the top, also good to see Brendog managed to ride rollers for slightly more than 2 seconds after a few weeks of practice!
  • 1 0
I think it was a video from the other website where he said he's not allowed to bring his race bikes home because his friends like to borrow parts sometimes or something

Man that drone shot from the top of...Pitch Hill issit? Got to get down Surrey Hills more often, it's only an hour away FFS
  • 4 0
always a stunning view from the top of Pitch! he's right on that climb being a bitch straight out of the carpark
  • 2 0
@andyooo: the climb in the vid is the one up from the road after riding the lines off the top of pitch like Thick & Creamy rather than from the car park. Steep and covered in roots.
  • 3 0
Yeah, goes down Thick & Creamy, the footage does not do the steepness of the chute justice.
  • 1 0
@razor: lol I have tripodded down that same chute
  • 4 0
There can't be many Sparks out there with flats on.
  • 2 0
Holy shit, it's unbelievably dry! In my 12 years living in London I was cycling almost exclusively in the Surrey Hills and I've never experienced such dry conditions.
  • 2 0
Is the jump spot at Wisley? I didn't realise there were dirt jumps in Surrey Hills
  • 2 0
 I think it's the s4p bike park.

So....one bike to do it all. Which one ?
  • 1 0
If you watch his other recent videos he says he was pleasantly surprised by the Spark but the Ransom is his typical choice for most rides.
  • 1 0
Probably Genius for most people or Ransom if you want to push yourself harder
