Video: Claudio Caluori Rides with the Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins

Apr 27, 2021
by James Smurthwaite

bigquotesI knew this was going to happen sooner or later if I only stayed long enough Laguna Beach. And it did. One day before I flew out.

Now where are we going to take this? Who thinks we should do the same thing but replace our bikes with music instruments? I promise, I won't sing. Maybe.

In Times Like These he realised that the climb was in fact the Long Road to Ruin with No Way Back, Taylor wished he had bought his Rope, because it turns out that These Days Claudio is just The Pretender on his e-bike, getting Something from Nothing.

@slayerdegnar: If you think that's Pick Withers, you're in Dire Straits. Wink

I got a feeling we just got the Best of you and you could go on Everlong

 You're My Hero.

Taylor is definitely a better drummer than me, but I'm a better mountain biker than him so it all balances out in the end!
  • 42 1
Except Taylor gets paid to drum.
  • 5 0
Maybe so - but do you make as much $ mountain biking as he does drumming?
  • 12 0
Probably more coin then MacAsgill & Semenuk combined
  • 7 0
@jacobyw: he gets royalties from alanis morrisette album and food fighters on top of endorsements so he makes good coin.
  • 1 0
 @jacobyw: Just a little
  • 2 0
Haha same. One of us few drummers who also mountain bike. (they don't always go well together) Sick to see a legend like him enjoying the sport!
  • 8 0
@giantwhip: I bought his signature sticks a few years ago, wonder if he'll buy one of my frames to return the favour. Only seems fair
  • 1 0
@jacobyw: which is needed to live anywhere nice in California ..let alone Laguna.

Finally a video of someone who rides like me.

you should see NFL QB Drew Brees riding. check it out on youtube. He hit the famous SC trails

Anyone who rides with a blutooth speaker goes immediately on my sh1t list.

Rockin drummer - no exception. Do not pass go. Do not collect $ 200.

It’s very enjoyable when two Bluetooth bros end up on the same part of trail. How does one decide who gets to keep the music going?
  • 2 0
@dwee: whoever has the bigger woofer.
  • 8 1
Generally I'd agree. But the drummer of Foo Fighters was mountain biking while listening to Janes Addiction. So if I was riding by them and saw that, I'd immediately go home, call my mates and say "I JUST SAW THE DUMMER FROM FOO FIGHTERS MOUNTAIN BIKING AND HE WAS LISTENING TO JANES ADDICTION!!!"

So yeah, a pass. This time only though.

I use a Far End Gear single earbud which lets me listen to whatever noisy crap I want and hear everything else at the same time. As for playing any music out loud while riding no matter how awesome you think your tunes are, no one wants to hear it (My tunes rule, BTW Bahahahaha!) I used to get irked by dorks with Bluetooth speakers or whatever, but I get a kick out of the weird mashups between what I'm listening to (most recently...Torso, DFA 1979, Eye Flys, Hüstler, Red Hare... see? I told you it sucked) and their output when I'm in earshot of them.

I'm just impressed he wasn't on an ebike.

Ebikers are more the Nickleback type

 @dark-o: hahahahahha

Cool to see musicians on MTB! Also, Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine) is a legit dirt jumper and Jean-Michel Labadie (Gojira) rides MTB all the time.
  • 3 0
 Jean-Michel knows how to shred!
  • 3 0
Timmy c has appeared in a video with Cam Mccaul i think. Look for it in Youtube

@FloFlorin: Also, one of the most energetic stage presences you will find, also, new Gojira album drops April 30!!!

It's funny that his riding outfit is the same as his drumming outfit
  • 16 0
Watching video of a mere-mortal (wrt mtb) highlights just how skilled and talented most of the riders we see on PB actually are.
  • 24 7
pleased to see he's not on a $20K super bike
  • 16 4
Why? 1) who cares it is his money if he wants to spend it and 2) if people can afford the super bikes, that technology trickles down to the rest of us eventually.

I care about how he spends his money. If he wastes his money on a super bike, other people have to waste their time and resources on making that superbike. He can also spend his money in a way that benefits humanity more than creating some trickle down technology for mountainbiking. That said, it still is his money and he totally has the right to waste it if he wants to. But i appreciate him not riding a super bike.
  • 20 0
As a counter-point, why isn't on a superbike, living like a rock star? If I had millions, I sure as shit would be on a super bike. What's wrong with spending the money if you have it? Why is everyone such a hater to those that have more than them, like its some universal misjustice?
  • 2 3
I haven't seen any hate here.
  • 8 6
@IntoTheEverflow: I see it here, passive aggressively disguised as social justice.
  • 8 0
Any bike is better than many many other kinds of expenditures - don't hate. Except on e-bikes.
  • 2 0
Actually, would be cool if he went down to Laguna cyclery and bought something nice
  • 10 1
Everyone knows Pat Smear is the real shredder in the group.
  • 3 0
The real mountain biking guitar shredder is George Lynch.
  • 1 0
Neil Peart was a mountain biker. I saw him and his Cannondale outside a deli in Sedona after a ride once. And someoe tell Taylor not to corner with is inside fooot down. Its almost tour season again and he cant wreck himself. People are dying for live music, after this f*ckin pandemic!

I've got another confession to make, I'm his fool
  • 3 1
Amazing. I love the Foo fighters cover of "rock n roll" by led zep. Taylor sing really well in this cover. Didn't know he rides MTB too.

Is that Jay Bentley from Bad Religion doing pull-ups with them?
  • 1 0

Claudio 'Learn(ing) To Fly...'Stranger Things Have Happened I suppose

Crazy to think Taylor survived a heroin overdose and is still functioning to this day
  • 4 0
Nikki Sixx had three...was even tossed in a building dumpster when the cohorts thought he was dead. He seems to be doing just fine. Drug OD isn't the end, unless it is the end.
  • 2 1
@GlassGuy: You can have serious brain damage from ODing which is why I'm amazed they are able to operate normally to this day
  • 1 1
People can be functioning Heroin addicts for decades. It's just times when there is too little or too much heroin that can be dangerous.
  • 1 0
@giantwhip: it's the not breathing for an extended amount of time that does the brain damage
  • 2 0
 Caludio??? Claudio's unknown twin???
  • 1 0
I think it's his evil cousin
  • 1 0
Glad Claudio didn't receive a citation as a souvenir. OC parks don't allow ebikes unless you have a medical exemption permit
  • 1 0
Hey Taylor, more importantly, is Wade Simmons the doppelganger of Dave Grohl?
  • 1 0
I dont know if you guys remenber this but :

 RIP Screech
  • 1 0
Claudio was colluding with him for a while there...
  • 2 5
I am super disappointed. I love the Foos and think the band members are all pretty cool. Taylor is an awesome drummer. But always assumed from all the clickbait stories like this www.mbr.co.uk/news/celebrities-mountain-bike-329228 he was a shredder, that wasn't mountain biking at all, not the kind we see on PB and other sites. I'm glad he likes riding bikes for fun/fitness but that was as slow and sketchy as it gets. Keep drumming/performing :-)
  • 5 0
So what. He's out enjoying riding on a MTB, that's all that matters.
