Video: Cam McCaul Shows Off his Past Trek Slopestyle Frames from 2004 to 2014

Feb 28, 2021
by Cam McCaul

Lining the wall of my garage is a collection of 11 Trek Ticket-S frames. I've held onto these frames over the years because they represent so many memories. When I walk through the garage it's like they're screaming those memories at me. After years of ignoring the screams, I decided to take some time to listen to what they had to say. This video is a trip down memory lane reminiscing the years from 2004 to 2014 with the help of archival footage from old video segments and contests.

Huge thank you to Andrew Shandro and everyone at Trek in 2004 for believing there was a future in the fringe discipline of mountain bike Slopestyle and for taking a chance on a scattered kid from California. It's crazy to think that these early prototypes evolved into the frame that riders like Brandon Semenuk, Brett Rheeder, and Emil Johansson would use to blow minds and push the sport to unthinkable levels.

Also, thank you to all the film companies and event organizers who invited me on film trips and to competitions over these years. It was a crazy experience going through all this footage and I'm grateful to everyone who made it possible.

Footage from films and contests by: Fall Line Productions, Freeride Entertainment, The Collective, Anthill Films, 2Six Productions, Aptos Productions, Crankworx, Highland Mountain Bike Park, etc.

One of the nicest families around. I met their father on the chairlift in whistler one year during crankworx and did a Garbo lap with him. Chillest dad ever! Met the brothers later that day and they are both amazing individuals. The positive energy that they exude is contagious. I will watch anything they put out!

I don't really want to be that guy... but, the Kona Cowan DS was available in 2006. Full Suspension, single speed, great for Slope Style.

Interesting to see the string for the brake around the top/down-tube intersection. I used to have to run something similar on my pbike. Seems like there's still room to improve slope bikes!!!!

26 pounds 15 ounces on the weight is not bad!

The most influential years when my sons were getting their first proper MTB's, Drop In TV appeared on our screens in the UK. Can't put into words the enjoyment we got from this. Thanks :o)

It really was the best. Post COVID Pinkbike should revitalize that as their reality format... just throw a bunch of charismatic riders in a bus and cruise around to different spots with a focus on the riding. Bring back the original cast to give the new riders challenges at each spot. I'd watch it.

@snl1200: Nah, that would be too good. Not enough drama.

Dude... best video I’ve watched in awhile. Cam if you want some real decals for that marzo drop me a line. It’s pretty clear they don’t have the bandwidth for custom decals. Lol. I still owe you a set for the patina bike.

Cam is such a cool, friendly guy! I was lucky enough to be living in Whistler in 2012 and scored a gig course marshalling for Joyride.

Landing with your full weight on the bike (1:05) must really suck... Destroy your body and your bike in one go...

Met Cam when I was an annoying preteen at the 2006 Monster Park in Snowshoe (Throwback). Such a charismatic, friendly dude with infectious enthusiasm for the sport.

This was so good. Makes you realise the commitment involved all round - from loyal sponsors, and from riders dealing with major injuries. Cheers Cam!

Trek was way ahead of the curve. Specialized didn't start working on the P Slope until ~2012

 2009 they released the SX

@Joebohobo: 2005 actually, when they released the Enduro SX Supercross. Technically it was a 4X/slalom bike but it was a similar design.
