No athlete’s Rampage run is without its challenges. For Carson Storch, getting ahead of those challenges is the aim of the game. Memorizing the meticulous details of his 2019 Red Bull Rampage run is a key part of that process.—Red Bull Bike
Really nice run! I really like that nowadays it's shown that event pros are scared the sh*t of what they're sending. It makes more sens then seeing everyone backflipping 10m drop like if they are doing it every mornings.
And I'm way more impressed seeing them overcome they fear than juste being fearless.
it would be sweet to have the audio from the start gate overdubbed throughout the run as a mental play by play to watch. I think we could all use more visualization before riding. Makes so much sense. Carson is a man's man...holy sheet that was a life moment right there.

Such a focused rider. There is nothing more impressive to me than someone being at the edge of their comfort zone and talking themselves into pushing ahead, not simply due to balls, but moreso calculated strategic knowledge that this is something they are capable of. Carson's commentary vid during build week really gave a good idea of how much prep and planning goes into the event. Props to the coach dude as well, what a resource to have at the top!
really liked rampage this year and liked the run in the livefeed. watching the run in pov, i can understand the criticism concerning slopestyle courses on steroids -so many highways. not what i want to see, but i am just an old DH rider so probably kinda biased.
I think it comes more down to the judging, they are so heavily biased on tricks it seems like a slopestyle comp in the desert. & the commentators going apeshit over tricks, even basic ones the slope guys would do in their sleep while forgetting they have just gone huge down an insane line that took them a week to build. They need to get rid of what ever criteria they are judging by & learn what freeride is.
I believe Rampage is simply a reflection of where the sport is now vs when the event started. 20yrs ago it was a feat to ride down to a loose steep slope on the bikes we were riding. Big tricks weren't really part of the game yet. That has changed and the sport has evolved, capabilities of riders and bikes have evolved and so it is logical that the competition venues have also evolved. In one of the videos this year a rider made a statement to the effect of the building being necessary for riders to be able to go as big and do the tricks they want to do, and many fans want to see, safely. It's still big and gnarly - there's no just running out to the side if you can't make the next lip - there's big consequence to missed lines.
@robwhynot: that's fine, assuming we want to see tricks. But I personally prefer to see gnarly natural lines and don't care about tricks that much. If I want to see huge tricks then I watch Joyride or Fest. Even proving grounds looked like Joyride, this tells much about what is expected at Rampage. Well, not by me.
This is such a great insight into your world, Carson! It was a spectacular performance thank you! Mini3 at the end was the best Rampage finish move ever!

Also must be nice too be able too case a jump on purpose, because your life depends not doing so?
Damn, thats powerful stuff.
Going to add it to my current psych-up "I am not nervous, I just have nervous energy. Let's use it."
