I ride the same chain for a couple of years and hardly ever snap one.........the fact I don't race is irrelevant....probably

I feel the answer is "make stronger chains". Considering how catastrophic chain-snappage is I would think a few extra grams would be an acceptable price to pay to stop it ever happening.

@sourmix: Manufacturers do not want too make chains last longer as would sell less, why do you think sealed drives do not really exist?

@nug12182: Racers only use lowest gear out the gate, that is where they snap them, so may be just tell riders not too try so hard too get up to speed, but since most DH riders only use 7 or less gears could easily use 8 speed chains but use 10 speed chain with 7 gears
