Ha, tried to start running a few years ago... the boredom was overwhelming. So started trail running... had to up the trail difficulty to keep it interesting... then I was like “why don’t I just ride my bike”. Went full circle.
I despised and mocked running forever. Then I took up trail running a few years back when I was stuck in an area with trails so tame that riding my bike just made me depressed. It took a while for my body to acclimate, but once it did I started to crave running. Audiobooks and podcasts take care of any boredom. I've since moved to an area with excellent MTB trails but I still run often, especially in the winter. Riding will hands down always be more fun but I came to truly love what trail running does for my mind and body.
@chyu: that is such a myth. Running huge mileage, or EVERY single day with no recovery time is what injures the cartilage. But any activity can injure you if overdone. Runners do to tend to overdo it though. The actual data is that running keeps your knees healthy, as long as it’s just every other day ( or even less frequent if your older) so the cartilage can respond to the stress and regenerate. However, cycling can be done more often without knee Injury, because it’s lower impact. I run 2-3 times a week, ride once or twice a week, also some weightlifting. I’m 49. More running and less riding when it’s hot and dry and trails are blown out(SoCal). If I DONT run, my knees tend to hurt as well as my back. Cross training is healthy!
Unpopular opinion: Running is a nice change because your moving slower and have the opportunity to take in more of your surroundings. Been trail running for a while (which has actually helped me take in and learn alot about my local trail networks), but started running around neighborhoods lately and have been discovering alot about my town.
That being said...relatively speaking, compared to riding my Megatower full blast down my favorite local trails, its pretty boring.
@Ktron: I bet you don’t really believe that. Do you enjoy spinning on an exercise bike as much as you enjoy mountain biking? The difference is near that big with trail running vs. treadmill.
@fruitsd79: ...and thus running is lame? Not sure I see your point. Plenty of mountain bikers are guilty of those same things where I live. Does that mean mountain biking is dumb? I know I’m not going to get on Pinkbike and convince a bunch of people to take up running. I’m just saying someone who has never given it a chance may find out It’s actually pretty cool and great cross training. Contrary to popular belief, you can legally enjoy both.
got in a serious car accident 5 years back. Cant walk or run more than a mile before this clicking sets in. Jsut rode 10 miles today in 80 degree heat, feeling tired but good!
Something really cracks me up when Micayla busts out her acting chops. I'm pretty sure I know a few female MTB athletes who've said exactly her lines.
Also, the trainer practice was hilarious.
that show got me into riding back in the day. been trying to find season 1 on dvd but its impossible to find. have seasons 2,3,4,5 dvds. id put season 2 above 3
I definitely have more trail built in my neighborhood sized backyard than I used to, and definitely have made courses in the driveway with cones and sidewalk chalk to “entertain the children”.
All you guys living in the PNW area can't complain. The good trails are everywhere and you can access them. It's much harder for those of us that relies on summer travels to get some good quality riding done.
Great video, I loved it. Going to see if my family gets any of it (probably not) Thanks so much! Will definitely show my kids (who will LOVE bikes, I assure you) when I have any, and when they ask me about the Corona someday in the future...
Tried chain lube down there once. Pros: Muc (spell it backwards) off dry lube smells like banana nut (hehe... nut) muffins Cons: Rash still hasnt gone away
So please tell me, how the hell do you know, that you or any other person in the public is healthy, when symptoms show about 14 days after the infection and infected people, who don't show symptoms yet, are infectious already.
@ashlemon: Oh great, a video hosting service for far right people and conspiretards. That tells me everything I need to know about you. Dave Cullen is also somebody I wouldn't really like to asociate myself with, because he omits most of the stuff, that doesn't fit his narrative and feelings (like basically everyone from the "debate me bro", "rekt with facts n logic" crowd). Professor Dolores Cahill also someone who I'd trust to have quite a strong agenda, considering she has her own populistic right wing party. Both not people I'd trust with pretty much anything, especially when the scientific consensus on the matter is very clear. I wouldn't discredit the whole scientific consensus of thousands of scientists, because one PhD said something different about something.

Woody Allen said ”Swimming is not a sport. It’s what you do to keep from drowning.”

When our trails are closed the cars with trail nerd stickers still show up. Trail runners don't come to work days.
Thank you all for setting valuable time aside to put this together!????
