Video: Danny Hart POV from Testing in Portugal

Feb 12, 2019
by Sarah Moore

bigquotesMe and the rest of the Madison Saracen Factory Team headed out here to Ponte De Lima for a week riding in some good weather. I rode this track last year on my first outing on my Saracen Myst, so I wanted to come back this year because it is a good long track, so good for testing the bikes and also a bit of conditioning before the season kicks off in a couple of months!Danny Hart

Sorry about the horrific winter conditions.

If you need a break from the horrific sunshine and blue skies you're welcome to trade places with me in the UK. I'm selfless like that.

 Eagle eye, well found!

@qreative-bicycle: thanks mate, I had to pause it at the right moment just to be sure!
  • + 2
Would be dope if he raced 26 again though

Give me a marker so I can verify please.
  • + 3
@leviatanouroboro: whats 26? They are the small square ones right before they discovered roundless?

So here's you non-sequitur dumb question of the day for the Limeys in the crowd - does it strike you as odd that a British bike company is named Saracen, which was historically the term for a skilled Muslim warrior during the Crusades? Of course that happened more than a minute ago, but I've always wondered about that. Regardless, rad vid and I'd definitely rock a Myst if given the opportunity (albeit at ~17% of Danny's pace)

Nah, gives vibe of warrior so it's a selling point. Slightly more original than Rocky Mountain and doesn't remind me of an ex (Intense).

Oddest of all is naming a brand after St Nikolas driving down main Street in his pimped pick up (Santa Cruz, geddit?).

And let's face it, Young Talent is a porntube search not a bike brand ha ha!

I Believe the British army have some 'skilled Muslim Warriors' within their ranks. Where are you going with this?
  • + 2
@drjonnywonderboy: They even named a tank after them.
  • + 1
 Sorry apc
  • + 1
I thought Santa Cruz meant sacred cross
  • + 3
@jaame: nah, pretty sure it means "whales vagina"

 @jackalope: agree to disagree

This is on just about the same latitude as Providence, Chicago, and Des Moines, but with big elevation changes. I'm forever amazed at Europe's comparative climate for similar latitudes in North America. I could be wrong, but don't think I could head down to the mountains surrounding Yreka and find snow-free riding right now.

I'm sure you know all of this but it is all about presence to ocean, ocean current flow, wind patterns, and elevation. Latitude is only one piece of the pie. Chicago, Des Moines, etc, are all land locked, no large body of water acting as a mediating effect (no, the great lakes don't count, we're talking oceans here). Look at Seattle. High latitude but located close to Pacific, which acts as a mediator. Providence is close to the Atlantic but is on the west side of the ocean (winds and weather come across large body of land which is subject to lower temps both extreme and overall) and also in the path of arctic air flow in the winter. In the case of Portugal, the North Atlantic Current is a big player in climate (part of the Gulf Stream). Now, if that current were to collapse or slow due to climate change (and there is evidence this is a possibility) then buh bye warm parts of Europe (which has been seen to occur in the geological record).

@Lotusoperandi: the oceans are a thermal buffer

What a nice long tech track. Love seeing the dirt. Kill 'em this year Danny! .
  • + 1
He needs to look up and see what’s ahead not just 6 ft in front of him , you go a lot faster that way , trust me ! And he should buy some earmuffs to soften that wind noise ! He might win something then Big Grin
  • + 5
 DANNY STAY ON YOUR BIKE
  • + 1
Yeah mostly good for physical conditioning, from jumping from berm to berm. One of those tracks that cut the technical challenge to favour easy fun.
  • + 2
Danny need to sort the wind noise, but with the speeds you go it is a problem?
  • + 3
 fique na sua bicicleta, danny
  • + 1
 Whose bike is it?
  • + 2
Lovely place Ponte de Lima! What happen to all those trees over the ground?a fire?
  • + 4
Yes, they had a really bad fire there that destroyed a lot of the trees. Still a very beautiful area though and the tracks are amazing.
  • + 3
I want my broom back Danny
  • + 1
That track looks amazing, would love to ride that, think it would take me 10 minutes though Smile
  • + 0
Jesus H Christ, stay on the ground for a moment or two Danny. Maybe you'll have some grip to rail those corners a bit faster.
  • + 2
Nice, a proper raw technical trail.
  • + 2
If that was a wc track it would be criticised for not being technical enough , was raw though !
  • + 1
@Matt115lamb: True. I'm just tired of the push for dumbing down trails and flow trails.
  • + 2
Holy caramba, that track looks fun! Smile
  • + 1
I got arm pump just by watching. Awesome track
  • + 1
