Danny MacAskill and Kriss Kyle - "This and That" - Presented by Endura
After a frustrating few months of making and cancelling projects it was amazing to finally get back on the road with my good friend and BMX legend Kriss Kyle. In six days we managed to squeeze in a whole lot of riding on the Mountain Bikes as well as the Trials Bike and BMX and had a lot of fun along the way.
A massive thanks to Endura for getting behind this project last minute and allowing us to go out and make this fun film.
I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.—Danny MacAskill
Insane skills from them both and I love the way you get to see the mishaps, showing these two sick riders are human like the rest of us mortals. And Danny Mac riding the chain, WTF!!
That chain ride was insane. I remember when Ryan Leech rode short sections of chain in The Collective blowing minds and here we are 17 years later, Danny riding a chain multiple bike lengths long. Progression mannnn
@scott-townes: I'll never forget going to the Toronto bike show as a teenager and planning my whole day around Ryan Leech's live show schedule and theatre screenings of Manifesto.
Danny Mac was a hero of mine when I was growing up. His Way Back Home video was one of my favorites, and here he is, still blowing my mind 10 years later. He seems like such a genuinely kind guy, and I respect him a lot for that, what a legend.
So telling that my 65 year old mums leading response to a (mountain biking obsessed) family WhatsApp chat about one of his recent videos was "He's just such a lovely lad, I want him to pop in for tea and cake".
This and that....
More like This is it!
What a video, I think that Kriss is taking something from BMX to mountain biking that we have not seen before. Insane how quickly he can trick a mountain bike and he is doing BMX tricks now in a quarry which looks epic.
Danny still has the insane skills and flow he has always had, even though he is closer to 40 than 30 now.
The crash reel was also great, these guys know how to push it and take lots of takes to get the clip for sure.
I don't know what the big deal is, I can do 50% of everything those guys can do. Unfortunately though the 50% I can't do is getting back horizontal facing the right way with the wheels down, land and ride away.
do these bmx bikes actually have no brakes? I do all mtb, and I hopped on a bmx the other day and tried to manual it without thinking and BAM flat on my back. That's insane how those guys can manual those bmx bikes forwards or backwards with no brakes.
It depends, a lot of BMX Bikes have the option to mount brakes so its more personal choice. I ride without breaks but sometimes I mount them just to try some new tricks or mostly for Jump Trails
@GilesSTurner: No it does not. Firstly, it takes time to move a foot to the forks, secondly, you've not got much control, thirdly, it's only on the front wheel, fourthly, it affects your weight distribution weirdly fifthly, impractical if rading fakie etc. etc.
This speaks volumes about my lack of ability when it comes to manualing and bunny hopping, but Kriss' hop off that wall after jumping the fence blew me away. A proper hop angled down at speed. Not to take away from the rest of the madness but that little bit was wicked.
Incredible riding! i didn't know corner nac or the front manual nac where a thing even. Also tech side of things, MacAskill on eewings, carbon bikes carbon wheels, that thing is going to be like 9 kilos. I
ok ok, gotta admit I watched in with the radio on the the background the first time, just watched it again with the music from the film on. LDG is right, the music does not go as well as it should, detracts from what is an awesome edit. (better than the 90s mash up for sure). Could I do better, hell no, it would be absolute trash if I did it! As for the epilepsy, dont see that but I am not a doctor.
@betsie: I didn't mind the music, not got it up loud so as not to draw attention in the office but thought it better than some other edits out there. To be fair I don't watch them to critique the music though, more to enjoy the riding and there can be no complaints on that front with this one!
@McFuntish: thats the problem with being in the office. Working from home has been great for peaking at PB for new videos Their riding blows my mind, if it was on a computer game you would laugh and say its not possible. Their commitment to trying things multiple times and takin the hits is on another level. Crazy stuff.
