PRESS RELEASE: Mous

Street trials and mountain bike rider Danny MacAskill loves listening to music on his phone as he performs tricks on his bike. With his phone stored in a pocket, it often ends up flying out, so it’s no surprise that Danny has been a fan of London-based tech accessory brand Mous for years now. His last four cases have been from Mous, and for good reason; the extreme protection can be relied on to keep his phone in one piece when it falls out. Danny and the brand’s creative and product teams put their heads together to come up with all sorts of exciting stunts to launch their partnership and give their latest products the ultimate test. They wanted to show just how protective and how functional Mous products are with the most extreme of real-life testing.

bigquotesI had so much fun getting creative in Edinburgh with the Mous team. We’re both extremely passionate about content so it was great to shoot with the in-house brand’s content team and get some epic shots. I’m truly impressed by their authenticity and the lengths they go to rigorously test out their products. I am stoked to have Mous as the perfect partner and I can’t wait to see where the collab goes!Danny MacAskill

Danny and the Mous team went to Edinburgh where he honed his street trials skills and knows the best riding spots so he was prepared with plenty of ideas. He was also able to point out different places he’d broken his phone while riding before he got his first Mous case.

Their latest product ecosystem, IntraLock™ removes the need for a device to be stored in pocket at all. The IntraLock™ bike mount attaches to the handlebar and the ultra-protective Evolution phone case securely connects to it so riders can keep cycling with and listening to their favourite soundtracks more confidently than ever.

The British brand has a long history of extreme drop testing. They’ve dropped iPhones in their cases from 45ft cranes, 100mph ziplines and even from space. Crazy stunts are at the core of what Mous do and this fits perfectly with Danny, who thrives on pushing his creativity to the limit.

In preparation for the shoot, the Mous team designed and constructed all sorts of contraptions. They built a bridge from 15 back-to-back phones for Danny to ride across and a catapult capable of sending a phone 30ft into the air - Danny couldn’t wait to get on his bike and get testing. Once the shoot was underway, his excitement only grew.

bigquotesThey really do push their products until they break! I'll never get used to smashing a phone against concrete, however protective I know the case is.Danny MacAskill

First up, Danny did some target practice from the iconic red telephone boxes in the Royal Mile dropping directly onto several devices protected by Mous cases. He used a MacBook Pro as a ramp to jump a wall and thoroughly tested Mous’ new IntraLock™ bike mount by jumping off railings and riding stairs. Danny was impressed by the secure attachment of the bike mount, and all devices survived without a scratch until they faced the final test, a giant catapult. After four or five extreme launches into the air the phone finally met its match.

I'll never forgive mous for all those annying LOOK AT THIS! "We drop the new iPhone" youtube adverts you get spammed with everytime a new phone is released.
Kinda sad this is just a no shame advert and not a Danny Mac video of his usual standard

Danny has given us so many good videos, it's probably fair he gets to make a little money...

@Nbmy82: Zero shade on Danny. The commercial was poorly written.

I suppose you make money the old fashioned way - waiting for a government check. That gives you the extra time and the biggest podium (social media) to spout platitudes (dripping with jealousy) of how others are hacks and charlatans without getting out of your pajamas.

The man needs to make a living. I think if some reasonably reputable company asked any of us to endorse their product while messing around on our bikes, most of us would say yes.

Got no problems with him making some $$ it's more a problem with the way Mous advertises, for example Endura and Santa cruz sponsor him and have worked with Danny on some fantastic videos promoting thier products that are enjoyable to watch without having an infomercial feel and i for one feel much more compelled to buy things i see Danny enjoying using making a rad video the way he is good at rather than something he's been paid to tell you about with poor writing.

I’m actually in the market for a new iPhone case… might have found what I’m looking for now

@rrolly: the only bit worth watching is the end when he actually breaks the phone... I'll stick with my QuadLock case, since using a QuadLock case I've not once broken my phone when catapulting it 20meters into the air... FACT...

Maybe Mous can also start making cases for certain bike frames, to prevent them from snapping during the PB tests

This is the closest to phoning it in Danny MacAskill has been so far.

You should see his ad for that bit of Scotland I can't remember (clearly worth every penny they spent).
  • 4 0
@andrewbmxmtb: You can make a solid case for it
  • 3 0
@CSharp: Could you break that down for me?
  • 11 0
Danny "couldn't break" a Reserve rim doing torture tests like riding without a tire down stairs, but lots of my amateur riding buddies break them doing normal riding stuff.

Should we assume the same for these cases?
  • 4 1
To be fair, did your friends use Danny's wheel builder?

So it's an 8 minute advert

The back of my phone shattered being dropped from waist height in a mous case, perhaps it would have survived if it landed on a 5psi mountain bike tyre.

I wonder how many people are going to buy these and have a good at using their laptop as a down ramp? ha

 *Go
  • 6 0
as long as my bikes okay when I crash, not bothered about my phone...
  • 4 0
The only phone I have ever broken was in a mous case. Never had any issues with other cases, namely Otter Box.
  • 4 2
I'm sure these are quality products, but getting the world's smoothest, most graceful trials rider to drop onto them with his bicycle isn't the most convincing ad campaign I've ever seen...
  • 33 0
For real. Danny could drop onto my already broken phone and it would come out fixed.
  • 1 0
Yup. Take the tire off first.
  • 4 0
The bigger phones get the more fumbling around and hit the ground. Please companies make smaller phones again !
  • 3 0
Should have just give them to me to smash, I'd have done it for nowt. I even smash phones and laptops when I'm not even trying...
  • 3 0
Everyone appreciates Danny needs to make bit of money. Top riding as always but more inspirational riding less advertising on the next one please.
  • 3 0
Mous should build helmets and pads, I usually fair far worse than those computers when I attempt these types of tricks.
  • 3 1
Been using a Mous case for a while now (along with others in the family) and they genuinely are worth the money.
  • 7 1
How would you know? If your phone didn't break, it may not have broken with cheaper case either. You can only genuinely know that you *wasted* your money when your phone broke, despite a case.
  • 6 1
@mi-bike: Yup, for the same reason that you cannot prove a negative.
  • 1 1
@mi-bike: Have been through multiple cases so went for the Maus option (long before I was aware Danny MacAskill had any involvement with them - I bought it because of the amount of positive recommendations it had on Amazon). Something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I paid for it, it has kept my phone intact and therefore has been well worth the money.
  • 3 2
@Niseach1: But that's the thing, you don't know that it has kept your phone in tact. All you know is that your phone is in tact, but you cannot definitively say that it wouldn't be without that case. As I say, you cannot prove a negative.
  • 1 0
@redrook: ‘Proof’ or coming up with a hypothesis around proving negatives is not something I’m looking for to be fair - I’m saying the case is worth what I paid for it because I think it is (in the same way as what I paid for my bikes). Ontologically we’re in different places. Your ‘truth’ based upon an interpretation of what I originally said and my ‘truth’ based upon my lived reality of owning the case (socially constructed multiple ‘truths’, although maybe a hard scientist might beg to differ).

What a bizarre exchange to be having on Pinkbike.
  • 2 1
@Niseach1: Lol no, it's much more straightforward. You don't know that the case has done you any good because you don't know that your phone would be broken if you didn't have it, or if you had a different case. Pretty simple! Glad you like your phone case.
  • 3 1
@redrook: Science v Social Science. 'Worth' is a social construct (from my perspective), rather than something that can be externally proven or measured.

And aye it is a great case.
  • 2 1
@Niseach1: I never mentioned "worth", I just said that you don't know your phone is safe because of that case. It has nothing to do with social constructs lol, it's just very, very basic logic.
  • 2 1
@Niseach1: These types of conversations can go on forever, but I'm with @redrook that it all boils down to simple logic. You seem to believe that what you said is misrepresented or misunderstood ("Your ‘truth’ based upon an interpretation of what I originally said"). However, there is no room for any interpretation of your original statement, that "they genuinely are worth the money." You presented it as a fact and we are just trying to show that it is an opinion instead.

 Is the phone nokia 3310?
  • 1 1
 Or Sonim XP Strike?
  • 2 0
Not my favourite Danny Mac video if I'm honest, but mans gotta make that bread somehow!
  • 2 0
I have a rugged phone because I actually ride a bike bro! Why create a problem by buying an iphone.
  • 1 0
I was Disappointed that video sucked I thought it was gonna be another one of his amazing videos But i guess he has to make some money
  • 1 0
Danny should just wear pants with zippered pockets to prevent his phone from falling out. Surely his sponsor Endura must have something.
  • 2 0
It is not the casing - it is Danny´s smooth riding!
Everybody should have a Danny.
  • 2 0
Looks like Danny got himself some eeWings
  • 2 2
Ive been using their cases for a few years after continual screen damage with others. They really do work and have saved my phone multiple times. Worth the money for sure.
  • 2 0
Good job he didn't try it on the ebike!
  • 1 0
To be fair that bike phone mount is pretty impressive. Might get one for my commuter bike.
  • 1 0
Can this be combined with his carbon rim testing advert, see how well those cases hold without a nice cushioning tire
  • 1 0
He has eewings on his trials bike!
  • 1 0
What's next? Surf Shark? Big Grin
  • 1 0
 6:35: I can do that!
  • 1 0
 Shitty ad
  • 1 4
Hey, 6:31, isn't the screen glass already broken?

Anyway, always a pleasure to see Danny's vids and smiles!
