Utah local Danny McAtee, known as Danny Mac, has hit the monstrous drop that Brage Vestavik and his team built for last year's Red Bull Rampage, which measures 47 feet vertically. After Brage crashed and injured his arm, that drop has been waiting for any willing takers... and has already found one. Captured by Tylar Furr.

What made you decide to line up that drop?

Danny: I hit it because it's the sketchiest drop I've ever seen, thought it would be rad!

How certain were you that you could hit it successfully?

Danny: I figured I had a 50/50 chance I would land it, either way it would be cool.

Do you have any other big hits next on your list?

Danny: I don't know if I can top this drop, if someone has a bigger one I'd love to hit it!

It’s Danny’s Big Mac drop now! Props to Brage for pioneering. It’s also 55 feet measured with a rope lip-lip. I’m so privileged to film this and support Danny

@tylarfurr: good idea for a possible pay cheque.
  • 22 2
@tylarfurr: So true vertical is 47' with roughly 29' length? (55' for the hypotenuse). That must have been so damn wild to actually get to see it in person ! He was in the air soooo long !

 @isaacgibson: you tell’em gibbles.

Also imo using the diagonal measurement doesn’t really say a whole lot about how gnarly a drop really is. A 55’ diagonal feature could also be a 54’ gap with a 10’ drop. Still a big hit. But nowhere near as wild or hard of a landing as a 47’ vertical drop.

@isaacgibson: @tylarfurr is just jealous he didn't land it himself. If he had landed it, he'd be taking all the credit. It's the classic "I'm not talented, so I have to tear down everyone around me" mentality.
  • 101 5
@danielfloyd: Dang, Danny MacAskill robbing Brage harder than the Wallace brothers robbed Reece Wilson.
  • 26 16
@danielfloyd: it’s just a bad way to conduct yourself. this video is definitely controversial for some people, and to then go and chuck shade at brage doesn’t shine these guys in a good light.

@brycepiwek there’s been a million 70 foot step downs built. measure with a tape from the take off, vertically down to the height of the landing, then along which would be the length of the jump. then you just add those together. so a stepdown 40ft out and 30ft down is 70ft. hahaha
  • 115 16
@isaacgibson: naw I didn’t say that. Brage is the goat for pioneering it. I just gotta support the man who completed it with no sponsors or a paramedic near by. He made history with no one pushing him to do so. And yeah I admire Brage and Danny. Both bad asses in my book and I hope they both continue to kill it! (Admiration is just jealousy but you like the person)
  • 36 1
It sure is disappointing that Brage hasn’t gotten revenge yet, but knowing Danny I know he did it in absolute respect for Brage and his builders. Either way, I’m just glad to see the sport growing and great riders pushing eachother.

@tylarfurr: not sure why you're getting poo poo'd on in this thread. The drop was insane, keep on riding brother.

 @BoobyHill:
The other part of the argument being that while obviously there are no rules about it. The honourable thing to do would be to allow the rider (In this case Brage), who was injured on their attempt and lives on the other side of the world the opportunity to stomp what he built. Or atleast get in contact with him. I’m sure there are plenty of other mesa’s that size to chuck off of if that’s it.
  • 26 1
Zink and Straight sent the "Bender Sender" and call it the "man size drop after they cleaned it. Who cares
  • 7 0
@brycepiwek: I do understand that. There's a similar sentiment in the BASE community as well.
  • 83 12
@brycepiwek: dudes in his prime, so why should he have to wait for Brage to send it successfully first? Its a public area. Show up and send. It surely never came down to a “respect” thing. Could also say it reverse, like Brage could be open and respectful to anyone willing to come and ride it. Everyone is quick to throw shade when it is completely out of context. Are they not out there to do the same thing? Everyone needs to relax. Fools out here like the dirt jump police and probably arent even fit for the sends anyways. Nor do they even have a bmx background. f*ck off to the haters and props to Danny for the righteous send!
  • 23 6
@eg-bikes: These guys ride and film all the time with each other. @tylarfurr wasnt out for a paycheck. He was out supporting his boy.
  • 32 5
@slayerdegnar: But it's still called the Bender Sender. You didn't have a random no-name filmer proclaiming "It’s Danny’s Big Mac drop now!"

  • 14 1
Brage got hurt trying it, then someone else completed it successfully, no one got robbed. Trails built on public lands are public, so there's no private ownership of that line. It was pretty balsy to ride that drop and clearly the guy who completed the drop successfully is a skilled rider. There are lots of riders who have the skills of professional athletes, but without the sponsorship, just saying...

  • 4 2
@CantClimb: Damn... forgot about that rule hahaha
  • 68 1
I get that we all feel bad that Brage got hurt and couldn't hit the drop in Rampage. But once it's built and he got first attempts to try it, I think it is fair play to hit it months after. After all, it was built by a team of builders on public land, and an unsponsored rider will never have the support system to build it out themselves. I say Props to anyone who can hit it successfully.
  • 14 0
The Jaw drop is still up for grabs. Just wanted to leave that here.

  • 8 0
@redrook: That's him landing deep too, if he landed in the transition better it would have been smoother, and that's a LOT bigger than this one. Of course you can make a smooth fort footer.

flag Canyonh (May 24, 2022 at 15:24) (Below Threshold)
@redrook: fair point, but look at the size of that landing. Brages landing already took up a large proportion of the wall. The only way to get something that smooth would be to find a new location outright for a steeper and longer landing
  • 14 0

I wonder how Van Steenbergen is doing. It’s ridiculous how athletes in our sport suffer devastating injuries and the media glosses it over. Covering it when it happens, then moving onto the next thing while carefully avoiding any press around the long-term life changing impacts.
