Video: Danny McAtee Hits Brage Vestavik's 47-Foot Rampage Drop
Utah local Danny McAtee, known as Danny Mac, has hit the monstrous drop that Brage Vestavik and his team built for last year's Red Bull Rampage, which measures 47 feet vertically. After Brage crashed and injured his arm, that drop has been waiting for any willing takers... and has already found one. Captured by Tylar Furr.
What made you decide to line up that drop?
Danny: I hit it because it's the sketchiest drop I've ever seen, thought it would be rad!
How certain were you that you could hit it successfully?
Danny: I figured I had a 50/50 chance I would land it, either way it would be cool.
Do you have any other big hits next on your list?
Danny: I don't know if I can top this drop, if someone has a bigger one I'd love to hit it!

Also imo using the diagonal measurement doesn’t really say a whole lot about how gnarly a drop really is. A 55’ diagonal feature could also be a 54’ gap with a 10’ drop. Still a big hit. But nowhere near as wild or hard of a landing as a 47’ vertical drop.
@brycepiwek there’s been a million 70 foot step downs built. measure with a tape from the take off, vertically down to the height of the landing, then along which would be the length of the jump. then you just add those together. so a stepdown 40ft out and 30ft down is 70ft. hahaha
Come on man. I get that you’re excited but no need to start a pissing contest with everyone.
The other part of the argument being that while obviously there are no rules about it. The honourable thing to do would be to allow the rider (In this case Brage), who was injured on their attempt and lives on the other side of the world the opportunity to stomp what he built. Or atleast get in contact with him. I’m sure there are plenty of other mesa’s that size to chuck off of if that’s it.

Also. The whole "restoring the site to it's "original pristine condition" that was once touted is obviously complete BS and was just used to placate the tree huggers.
Still mixed feelings about “stealing” the drop from Brage. I wonder if he at least asked Brage if he planned to go back to hit it..

Anyway we should leave that to Brage and Danny to clear up if they want - all we can say is MAD RESPECT to both. Actually to anyone who is even thinking of actually dropping this thing outside of imaginary world
Props to the guy for sending it though, but he should spend a bit more time building his own senders rather than clouting off the back off of other peoples builds.
This is one of the biggest drops ever hit on a bike, and I think a massive massive part of this is who built and guinea pigged it.
A huge part of freeride (imo) is building your own features. I’ve ridden a few spots which the builders have put an insane amount of time and effort into building, and have never posted pics or videos of me riding these spots for my own personal gain.
That’s just my two cents.
I can see a case for 1 or maybe 2.
I wonder if we're getting to the point where there's enough people qualified and balsy enough to do this that the format could be re-evaluated.
The issue is weather and time.
Maybe there's a qualifying round at an earlier date at one of the old locations so guys don't get extra time at the location that's being used.
Have 10 guys prequalified. Have 2 judges picks. Then have a qualifier that includes 15-20 riders. Top 5 make it to the big show. Total rider count for Rampage is 17.
Just a thought. There does seem to be quite a few guys that are ready and willing these days. Dylan. Emil. Reece. Bienve. Johnny. DJ. Bizet. Agassiz. I'm sure there's some up coming Riddles out there coming up. Etc. Wouldn't be hard to get 10-20 guys that are good enough to run a qualifier.
