Conditions like that make so many sections of track more dangerous it's tough to say that the organizers should have done anything different with the gap out of the woods. They already had a ride-around in place
Curious that he referred to Rob Warner as "the announcer" going crazy about Laurie being 3 seconds up. Wonder if there is some sort of shade, or a contract thing not to mention names from other organizations or something. Seemed odd to me.
He was referring to old Hans 'das shouter' Schoutszer whose booming voice once sent villagers scrambling for their lives after they thought there was a thunderstorm within their houses
How can you do a post race debrief, having it all about Laurie and Matt, while fully keeping Benoit out? He was on a stellar run before messing up the woods, on the way for a sure win. British bias if anything! I find it disappointing as I usual love the content from Cathro and Pinkbike…
Benoit crashed on the live feed, no mystery why he placed so far down the list. Nobody knew what happened to Laurie. And Matt just won his fist WC. Both deserve a little extra focus.
@Skabbi: I agree with that. Matt‘s run was great! However, in Lourdes Loris was up as well, before crashing out on the live feed. Cathro did a in-depth debrief about „what could have been“, had Loris not crashed. That‘s why I was surprised they didn‘t even mention benoit, especially after qualifying first.. I feel that he gets overlooked.
Disagree. They are professionals and should be able to judge it for themselves. Those who come out of the woods with enough speed to clear it get rewarded and gain time.
I mean, has nothing to do with adrenaline. Really has to do with the terrain BEFORE the wood drop. When the weather is that inconsistent you can "enter" the line going the same speed throghout the entire weekend, but end up with severely different results depending on if its tacky muddy and slow, if its wet muddy and faster, or drying out and very fast suddenly.
Didn't necessarily see too many people go too deep on it so it's clear the slow mud made it a challenge for riders. Not sure how it was the previous 2 years which were also slop but I'd agree that if the mud is that terrible... Course alterations might be needed to avert the mud. Like savage ol plywood before the wood drop so people have time on solid surface to gauge speed.
@commental: Yeah there's not too much space. If you laid it straight it shouldn't be too bad. It's moreso how do you lay it down, how do you keep it there, and yes, how do you add some traction to shitty pieces of wood and keep it clean. Because the wood drop itself looks fine. It's just the entry is very very slow
BTW Wyn interviews both on WYN_TV here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nBtNN--dUY
