Video: Highlights Show - EWS Zermatt 2019

Sep 23, 2019
by Enduro World Series

It’s been said before, but the final round of the 2019 Enduro World Series was one for the history books.

Round eight, Traillove EWS Zermatt, lined up the perfect showdown high on Zermatt’s mountain sides beneath the shadow of the Matterhorn. Florian Nicolai took to the start line the series leader by the slimmest of margins - a mere 60 points. Chasing him down would be that most intimidating of opponents, reigning champion Sam Hill - and the result would not be decided until the very final stage of the day.

The 2019 season saw more than its fair share of drama - but it paled into insignificance in comparison to the intensity of the battle that was fought at the final round of the year.

What a finish. After 7 months of racing it all came down to a single stage and Sam taking the win on the Queen. Not sure how gravity racing could have gotten any more exciting. DH down to the last run, EWS down to the last stage, wow...

SAM VERY FAST DOWN THE HILL !!!! Cool to see him win. Strange season though. Drugs by mistakes and all that. But it is good to have concrete anti drugs rules and for all. It is good for the future of the sport.

Can we up the stoke a bit?

Closest finish since EWS started.
Maes takes stage 4, 3km, with 14!seconds (!)
And the graveyard voiceover to hype us up.

I understand EWS is different to DH. But a bit more ‘oomph’ would be nice Smile

DH is to F1 what Enduro is to WRC. The style of commentary is strangely similar as well and I think it suits them.

Look at this hairpin in the first stage.
Florian Nicolai is perhaps not the fastest guy (not so far) but such a style !

The highlights are great, the only thing I wish we could have would be sector/split times, I'd love to know how maes was pulling such large gaps on a few stages, and of course the 14 sec on the queen for Hill!

Nicely done, but the music was intrusive. Better to get rid of it or turn it way down. I'd also love a separate video (or post-credits footage) of several riders hitting the same crux sections, like you did starting at 12:42.

Their music is almost always suspect!

 Or Uzzi perhaps?

surprised that high line in the corner they kept showing in first stage wasn't use much.

Interesting - at the hairpin at the beginning of the video none of the top racers (who could if they wanted to) lifted the rear wheel to get around!

 Noga's got guts.

This was EWS finals and just 860 of uphill. Thats not so much, seems to be DH with transfers and lifts, but i like it, it should be more DH than UH, We have more on our enduroserie with 200m vert hills. But nextime, please, that SOUNDTRACK IS HORRIBLE, just skip that disco smurfs BS and summerhits songs, there is so much better music. Also, Congras to Sam Hill, he is still legend! good to see him still ripin it.

at least someone who feels the same about the music.

Sam Hill - the LEGEND and the GOAT Smile

What a killer soundtrack! Really makes you feel the intensity of the racing!!

Inspirational watch! Those guys and gals are fast.

The music makes my head hurt. Where's all the whining about the blue runs???
  • 2 2
This is a enduro race with 860 meters of climb? I think that is turning to something different but not enduro anymore !
  • 2 0
2580ft is a good bit for a single day, especially considering these guys are going all-out race pace on the way down. Less climbing makes the downhills more exciting and possibly safer.

@spankthewan: I'm prety sure that we see this sport very different, for my enduro is when you climb averything that you want to ride downhill, anything else is another sport.

 @PabloUB: Enduro=Endurance
If I wanted to watch an uphill race, I'd watch XC. Watching riders try to keep it together after being battered on 10 minutes of downhill, with short uphill/flat sprints, is far more interesting to me. This is surely still considered an endurance event by most.
