most of the time its bloody horse riders wrecking the wildlife, the only reason why we get blamed for the enviromental damage is because they pay to ride
Its because we are seen as "hooligans", whereas those who ride trail stomping poop machines are "equestrians", and are therefore responsible and have big $$$. (This is not MY opinion, but seems to be the opinion of many who have power over who gets to use trails)
The money argument doesn't quite make sense to me. Generally speaking, people who ride top notch, or really any bike priced over $2,500, are the people with money. A Polaris like this one is an "extra-extravagance" but many (not all) who ride bikes seriously are in the upper middle class. This is a leisure sport for those who can afford it. Usually those with money are the ones who petition the FWS or whomever for legitimate trails. It's part of why the sport thrives.
And to be fair , the size of ones ass does not reflect the fact that some riders, weather there on a horse or a bike have the sense to share the trails.
now I just have to find a way to sell the horse and get one of those RZR's
I'm sure it varies by region and country, but in some areas equestrians have big time, old money. Not "check out my new $5000 bike" money. More like, "look at Secretariat's grandson, he was only $800,000" kind of money. There are a lot of broke cowboys and 4H kids too, but not many rich mountain bikers.
Mountain bikers are not people with money. Any form of cycling other than road racing or CX will always be seen as childish and not worth dealing with. But a buggy like that... As they say "let the man hear the roar of the engine and his dick will tick..."
@norcorider540 It is a vehicle with 4 wheels which is powered by an engine where the driver sits inside. It is a car. It is just a specially designed off road car. That is like saying a DH bike is not a bike because it is for going off road and would be shit for doing your shopping.
My uncle had 10 horses and made around 75 grand annually. He was broke for his passion. Sounds like a biker to me. The rich are generally rare, no matter where you live.
d-man, that's probably because you're not a lazy fatass. Only lazy fatasses that are rude pieces of trash on horses should be insulted by my comment and rightfully so!
Convincing your bogan mates to be shuttle bitch was never easier. Yannick Granieri had a vid with a two bike BC racks style rack on the back of one of these.
best comment! Pastrana going to be like "well I know what I'm going to start building at Pastrana Land" but talking really fast and excited cuz thats how he always is haha
Yeah-couldn't agree more......and sounds like a flatulent dog on steroids. The video was great with all its different angles and rad driving but couldn't help thinking back to that Baja Monster truck video a few months ago and its screaming earthshaking big block roar. Now that was really spectacular-that sound and those exploding earth steps and those..... well everything.
the fact that this was recently done in Whatcom county and certain trails in Whatcom county have been illegal for several years due to land use rights and "erosion" is ABSOLUTELY mind boggling
I think it's pretty safe to say that the real reason trails get shut down isn't solely because of environmental issues, despite what the government tell you...
It's hard to talk about environmental issues when private land for commercial wood production is involved. I could buy it if someone started roosting some old growth forest loam. Environmental issues FFS...
I'd bet it was filmed on a land that was about to be logged
So then is it just rumor that there are laws on the books to protect the DNR from lawsuits by recreators? That was something I heard when the NorthFork was getting shut down...
Fun to watch for sure....Is anyone/everyone going to run out and dump 20 Large into a Buggy? Doubt it. (plus the hundred$ if not into the thousand$ for repair every time there's an "oops" moment).
I'm sitting here thinking I'm gonna be out of riding till next fall do to the necessity of a cartilage transplant in my knee that one of these looks like a ton of fun....
Crazy fun to watch! Can't help but think if I caught this guy on my favorite trail (you sir get one freebie on account of your giant balls), I would complementing his mind blowing skills until the last shovel of dirt filled in his grave.
I was out dirtbiking one day and seen a guy in one of these side by sides bulldozing his way down one of our singletrack trails, knocking trees down to get through. He finally got wedged hard between 2 trees and was completely stuck. He had the nerve to ask us for help. The owners of these things are even worse then the backwards hat wearing quad losers, i think its because they require zero skill to operate
I had no choice but to ditch my bike and crash off to the side of a trail one day as I was flowing from a section of bike trail into some dirt jumps. The UTV was parked right at the exit to the trail I was on so you couldn't see him until you came around the last corner. The guy just looked at me then sped off chewing the s*** out of the dirt jumps as he went. This was in a non-motorized recreation area beside an endless network of trails already used by quads and dirt bikes, so not a huge fan either...
In addition to mtb's I also go wheeling a lot, the UTV guys come into established trails that 4 wheel drive clubs have been maintaining for years and have built up relationships with local officials and residents. They are all a bunch of rich dumb asses (well maybe not all but many) drive way to fast, go off trail, leave garbage, and just generally don't have any respect for anything. They don't realize the effort and hard work the offroad community has put in over the years to keep the trails they are riding open, amidst constant pressure to have them closed. So I too am not a huge fan.
Well i would say he overshot that first gap by like 40'. That was really exciting and looked fun as hell. The only quarrel i have with this video is that it was not free ride at all. There was a clear (road/trail/path) he followed the whole time. The trees across the river were the closest to free ride i saw there. Never the less, pretty sure that was epic.
Why isn't the driver just in the middle? I mean, it's not like he's gonna take his wife to the gocery store in that thing.... Or is he? Perhaps this is his route back from the store... his drive way so to speak, which would explain his being so good at it.
where i come from there is a group of about 40 of the side by side guys and they all go out in a big line and constantly spin there tires and absolutely destroy the trails turning everything into sloppy mud and ruts.
At Rampage when they talked about the Polaris RZR booter, I thought some manscaping company had put some sponsorship money up for naming rights. This makes much more sense.
Hmmm, did I see bent control arms after hitting that log slide river crossing??? You have to have money to burn if you own one of those toys. It's just a big RC buggy
"The a-arms and rear radius rods got slightly bent during the log ride, but did not break. We did lose one ball joint on the thread the needle stunt during testing and had to replace a fender as well. Other than that the XP1K2 RZR ran flawless. No major breaks or failures or crashes!! RJ nailed it!! "
it's like.. what any fat f*ck can do, someone who doesn't have any skills and doesn't care about nature. This is the crap that keeps people from being openminded.
I would like to see you drive it like that. And just because he enjoys the outdoors differently doesn't mean he doesn't care about nature, I mean it a ten foot wide path through millions of acres of land, its not like he's setting the forest on fire or something. And you sound like closed minded environmentalist talking about mountain bikers

...and I think a new term has just entered the mountain-biking lexicon.
lol looks like a golf cart on steroids
But on that note, its more a supercross circuit. With this kind of course, TerraCross needs to step it up.
And the video had some creative editing. Bent control arms, quick-cut after the wall ride spin-out?
No denying the massive jump to flat was legit, and looks like nothing blew-up!

Pretty bad for the environnement but.... must be huge !!!
