C'mon PB! Give us a Saturday Saves! As fun as the carnage of Friday Fails is, we want to be reminded that it's possible to recover from the brink of disaster.

Nah, I wanna see the world burn

 @erminator:

Some men aren't looking for anything logical... some men just wanna watch the world burn.

GMBN is good is it a fail or a send

I think Mike Levy already won best save during the field test

@erminator: Same. Was having a bad day until I watched this

3:08 beautiful slow mo of a taco being made.
  • 7 2
I'm surprised at that height and landing nose first, that the rim would collapse like that. Clearly, that's not a rim Gwin rides with.

Catastrophic failure and the guy rode it out... respek. That poor bike though. Everything bottomed out and at least 1 wheel blown to bits.
  • 4 1
@neimbc: I definitely want to know what kind of rim Gwin was riding in that video. Unbelievable!

I have to think the rim in the Fails was already structurally unsound - it seems to just break in half without even that much force! I've smashed into rock landings way harder and ridden away without a flat... that rim was made from porcelain?

@Lokirides: I thought it was a well known fact, DT EX471

 Christ's Rim.

 At 1.05. Is that a cancan't?
  • 4 0
 That one was gnarly.
  • 33 0
Trees dont move...I hope that lady who nailed that tree was okay! She seemed to be smiling hahaha some savage impacts this week!
  • 20 0
A full face helmet is nothing to be ashamed of wearing. Don't buy a dentist a new Yeti,
  • 21 0
I wasn't sure if that was a smile or she's got tweetie birds circling her head. That was a hard, square hit!
  • 3 0
 Shes a tree Hugger.....or kisser
  • 4 0
 shit yeah that was loose

most guys woulda been faking death in that situation lol

Granted, I’m the type of rider that thinks I’m going to pull it out until well after I’m on the ground looking at the sky through the spinning wheels on my bike (even then, I sometimes refuse to admit I’ve crashed), but half of these look to me like the rider just gave up at the first little thing going wrong when they could have ridden it out.
  • 5 0
Sometimes its hard to muscle out of something like that
  • 4 0
Agree, I'm far from anything anyone would call skilled but it does appear that they either give up or go into autopilot as soon as they arrive at whatever feature they're hitting, not changing body position or anything to adapt.
  • 13 0
Part of that is inexperience and not knowing what's going to happen. More experienced riders know when to bail and when to hold on.
  • 2 0
Rider on the third tried his hardest at least.
  • 7 0
I think one of the keys to being fast AND not crashing as much is to retrain your brain to go from "this is wrong, hit the brakes" to "this is wrong, let go of the brakes." Of course you still have to hit them sometimes but that comes with experience.
  • 6 1
I am not sure about many, but still trying to figure out why the first guy bailed! Was not looking like a dead sailor and seemed to have control...and would have made the transition....odd one to me!
  • 2 0
@teenwolf: one thing I see learning at the foam pit: some people never let go of their bikes (usually the right choice) and others *always* throw their bike and try to get away from it (usually the wrong choice). I think this programs your reactions and then you head out on the trails with a throw-first mental model. If you watch the pros they get away from their bike when tricks go bad but I don't seem them look to ditch when a straight air goes a little askew...
  • 1 0
@fullfacemike: when in doubt, throttle out.
  • 3 0
you gotta knooow when to hold it

- sees friend fall off cliff
- considers it for a few seconds
- says "oh s**t"

I'm fascinated to know what he was thinking for that bit in the middle.. "oh he's fallen off the cliff, that'll be fine"
  • 7 0
A tip for the rider - never try to walk a bike down a trail with a cliff - keep feet on peddles.
  • 15 0
I cant believe there aren't more comments regarding that one. Where the hell did he go?
  • 12 0
that's the squirrel catcher on porcupine rim in Moab. that is way gnarlier than it even looks on that video. The way he fell, that's 50-60ft straight down through trees and shit. I have to assume his corpse is still down there to this day. lol
  • 3 0
@conoat: I thought that where he was... thanks for clarifying. Your right -that's one ugly drop off that side. (Which is why I walked it when we were there)
  • 4 0
@conoat: I was wondering if that was that spot. I remember seeing it on video and thinking "doesn't look that bad", then saw it live in person and was like "Nope"!
  • 7 0
 @dglobulator:

I think we're just trying to go on with our happy fantasy that he was caught gracefully by a tree just out of sight.
  • 3 0
@neimbc: I did this crash. This feature is called the snotch - right in the middle of the whole enchilada. Theres a super tight technical turn into this descent and the best way to do it is with an endo turn. Trouble with that is if you're on the wrong line the only thing you can do is try to get your feet down or hit the front brake and flip. I did both. Really all that I injured was my pride.
  • 2 0
@Coop71: Glad you're Okay - is that you in the clip or are you referring to a time you did it as well? It's an ugly cliff exit for sure.
  • 1 0
@conoat: Yeah, I was wondering if that’s where it was. I do think that’s the worst way to go There — over the side like that. I remember it being a pretty big drop. I’d rather fall down the face, and I’d rather not do that, either
  • 18 0
"Ride it out ride it out" To the guy who already crashed off his bike.
  • 3 0
 Rider down.
  • 3 0
I heard "Bro down, bro down" in Kiwi accent....
  • 14 0
"I'm scared of going down this rocky steep section, better fall off a cliff"
  • 1 0
Commit or walk it, there is no middle choice.
  • 14 0
The guy coming off the back of his BMX...rip knee
  • 5 0
I know an ACL replacement when I see one. It wasn’t the worst this week but it made me cringe the most
  • 5 0
that one i felt in by booty hole. So much clenching from ghost pain.
  • 2 0
RIP knee, RIP ankle, RIP self esteem.
  • 1 0
@Gmang: since he's pretty young, your probably right. For us old guys it's the quad that gives out on top of the knee (I'll feel it in my knee, gut and head for the rest of my life when I see this happen)
  • 11 0
The camera men and women are getting better. Few extra seconds of film makes these shots alllllll the better
  • 2 0
yep - you need some film to run between when you say action and when you yell cut to give the editors room to work!
  • 12 1
1st dude looked like he had it!
  • 14 0
I was thinking the same. Premature ejection Big Grin
  • 1 0
@root-0x54: n, i think he would have landed really noseheavy and maybe crashed worse
  • 6 2
@root-0x54: I misread your comment at first and thought I was on a different website for a second
  • 2 0
Yeah it really did, but also his dismount game is strong!
  • 12 0
 Ivan...Ivan
  • 11 0
Girl at 3:00 looked death in the face.
  • 5 0
That tree didn’t get a carving it got an imprint.
  • 5 0
I don't know she came out of that with a smile. She definitely had some speed goin straight into the tree!
  • 6 0
@Hydratic67: Dazed grin it could be
  • 10 0
No footed cancan to ass flat!
  • 9 0
I mean I'm shit & crash loads, but Friday fails always make me feel like Gee Atherton.
  • 8 0
“I’ll tow you into the big jump” “make sure you brake hard and stop at the top of the lip” “wait, what?”
  • 6 0
2:05 Every time I ride a berm this scenario goes thru my head. I end up staring at my front wheel to make sure it doesn't slip off.
  • 6 0
That was such a hard slam buddy took.
  • 2 0
Yikes, head straight into the berm. That's gotta hurt!
  • 2 0
I did the same fall/faill last week-end. I can tell you the slam was hard... Still difficult to walk and me elbow will take a long time to look good althought i was wearing an elbow pad.
  • 2 0
I broke a rib doing that. Losing the front over a berm is body slamming the ground from an 8 to10 foot drop.
  • 8 0
What was the person in front at 1:35 doing?
  • 9 0
Came here to read the mountain of comments about this, and nothing? They seem to be laughing, so guessing they're friends. Still, I'd be letting loose a few choice words if I'm following a buddy and he just decides to stop on the top of a jump like that.
  • 2 0
Man after watching these every week it seems that most of the worst looking crashes could be avoided with a few steps:
1) Seatpost DOWN
2) Upper body strength training
3) Not slamming the brakes in midair
4) Knowing your skill level and what falls within it.
  • 4 0
3 bike pile-up at 2:33. Lol - Like a car crash. One person does something stupid and someone else pays the price.
  • 4 0
I’m more appalled by their behavior after haha, they were all tweaking out
  • 5 0
I love the portion at 3:18 directed by JJ Abrams
  • 4 0
Dude fell off a cliff! Is he ok?
  • 18 0
We don't know. He hasn't stopped tumbling yet.
  • 5 1
This set of fails is probably the best compilation to-date!
  • 1 0
Pain-to-crash ratio seems extra high in this one.
  • 2 0
:53 and 1:42 segments - worst thing you can do is straddling in between the stem and the seat of your bike on a steep descent, especially on a technical sections.
  • 4 0
Never stop on the top of a jump!!
  • 3 0
That cliff at 0:57 looks nasty
  • 3 0
That's the 'snotch' on Whole Enchilada. It definitely can be a reasonable way down from there if a tree doesn't catch you....
  • 3 0
0:54 Some say he is still falling to this day.
  • 2 0
 So far, so good!
  • 3 0
3:26 haven't seen a good Vine in a long time
  • 2 0
But best cornering skills I have seen for a while - Props!
  • 2 0
Didn't realize the preferred technique for riding drops is to grab a fistful of front brake on the landing. Good to know
  • 2 0
1.08, i think the idea is to get back on your bike before landing.
  • 2 0
 1:07 ... sit down they said ...
  • 1 0
No, he said "ouin watch lé l'calice".
  • 2 0
1:12 - Barspin BEFORE the landing!
  • 1 0
A few of these clips happened literally moments after being inspired by Remy Metailler's latest shredit
  • 2 0
Some of these just needed more momentum. Speed is (sometimes) your friend!
  • 1 0
0:26 - what's the proper technique when you realize you've overshot and will land to flat?
  • 3 0
maybe keep knees and elbows loose, and get ready to do a deep controlled squat while keeping arms bent and strong. Check out any bmx part with big rooftop drops.
  • 1 0
 @dirtyburger: thanks for the tip!
  • 1 0
accidental nose bonk on the landing at low speed looked kinda epic for a second
  • 2 0
 "Could have been worse". Attaboy..!
  • 2 0
 2:35 lol
  • 2 2
Like half of them don’t look down the trail and the rest don’t know who to properly set their suspension
  • 7 0
 “How does rebound work?”
“Not sure, but you probably should have a lot”
“Oh yeah, now it’s really springy. This will be perfect “
  • 3 0
Don't think that's it. 75% of them don't belong on the trails they are on in the first place, the shaky steering gives it away in the first second.
  • 1 0
@Snowytrail: For sure a dead giveaway. Wobbling like a baby deer + Advanced Trail = Disaster every time.
  • 1 0
who count how many S**t was layed down?
  • 1 0
First guy was definitely a premature ejaculator
  • 1 0
No trees were hurt making these clips
  • 1 0
Not as bad as the riders, but I think some trees got hurt a little bit.
  • 1 0
I was wondering who that was at 2:55, now I know
  • 1 0
Anyone know if 0:16 is Wolverine in Sentiers du Moulin?
  • 1 0
Everybody in the place shout 3:13
  • 1 0
man every week keeps getting sketchier and funnier, the best day!
  • 1 0
Rear wheel landing and still OTB ???
  • 1 0
 Thats talent!
  • 1 0
 1.35 is my worst nightmare.
  • 1 0
*bike upside down in a tree* RIDE IT OUT!
  • 2 0
 How do you submit video?
  • 2 0
Yeah i want to know too! A friend of mine just failed hard!
  • 1 0
 Fails! So good.
