Nice intro. We finally got a point!

Riders: 1
Trees: 2,328
  • 3 0
"I hit the tree and the tree hit my bike"
  • 25 1
I like the fact he actually grabbed it mid air and went full John Cena on it to bring it down like a birch, err, bitch.
  • 1 0
The trees will always be there to cushion your fall Smile
  • 5 0
Friday fails #143 - The wood is not your friend edition
  • 12 1
Does anyone else feel like they are better off watching Friday Fails because you learn from others mistakes???
  • 5 1
@mattdawg: sure. keep telling yourself that.
  • 8 0
@mattdawg: I most certainly do! Overwhelmingly, the most common thing i am noticing is people over rotating(forward) in the air and then over the bars on a jump. What’s the best way to reduce the likelihood of this happening?
  • 4 0
@Ryanrobinson1984: to actually jump and not just ride straight off of it
  • 1 0
 @Masseemtb: Lolol, true!

Did anyone else notice they were all on 29ers with a dropper post and riding flat pedals and it didn't help any of them did it.....
  • 4 0
@tomtom4044: I'd argue that most of the time it's the rider not the bike
  • 5 0
 @Ryanrobinson1984:
It's nearly always letting the front wheel go off the lip without having jumped, if you either are off the bike of the bike or haven't set the bikes trajectory the back end will jump and the front will drop. Caused by a lack of confidence and experience.
Basically build your way up, get advice from a coach or at the local jumps. Always hit a jump with confidence your skill can back up.
  • 3 0
@Tristanssid: no doubt Also the shoulder/arm strength to hold the bars when you land nose heavy. I did a number of OTB before learning to ride-out a nose landing.
  • 1 0
Small trees and big bushes can sometimes be a life saver... literally.
  • 1 0
@Tristanssid: gotcha! Makes total sense actually. Thanks!
  • 1 0
 Vive la resistance!

I love how Friday fails is always a mix between people sending it big and xc dads eating shit at the pumptrack
  • 18 0
High volume of XC dads eating it for sure this week. Love it.
  • 31 0
Speaking for the Union Cycliste International du XC Dads Who Eat Merde (UCIXCDWEM) - you're welcome!
  • 26 0
It seems like if you're 40-50 years old and on a Giant Talon, you're guaranteed to eat it
  • 3 5
I've never seen a hydration pack on a jump line before, that in itself is a fail.
  • 2 0
The lumbar jacks on bikes are new in the mix, ...might become a new canadian national sport next to eating hockey pucks for breakfast
  • 56 10
Oh, I thought this was just going to be Trump's post-election address
  • 15 0
nope, just other old guys on their backs like obese turtles.
  • 30 1
Love the 2 for 1 crashes. My friends & I have a rule: You're allowed to run the person over that crashes in front of you. And I've definitely left tire marks on my friends... there's no reason for 2 people to crash!
  • 19 0
So long as you don't leave skid marks on your friend.
  • 1 0
Single ring chainrings instead of triple rings. Add one more benefit to their invention. You don' #wheelbug your buddy's spine when you run him over.
  • 27 0
2:10 flapping lift pass = prelude for disaster
  • 6 0
One of the Covid newbies with the price tag still attached Wink
  • 23 1
Nothing like asking "are you ok" after your buddy hit a tree with his head at full speed Razz
How possibly could he be ok? Even terminator would not be ok after this Wink
  • 37 0
I've changed my mind, I won't be back.
  • 5 0
 The one guy whimpered "Momma".
  • 2 0
“Mama!” That was my favorite. I wish they would leave more of the profanity in too, hilarious what people say when they go done on a bike.
  • 1 0
@zebcreed: OTB is funny in any language.
  • 2 0
Whoever asked the uprooted tree if it was ok afterall? Dude, that tree got seriously harmed :O
  • 17 0
I think this was the broken clavicle edition.
  • 7 0
@tmadison12 I was definitely hard to tell if the crunchy sound were twigs or bones.

This Friday Fails was really great......
  • 12 0
Wow. Rough episode. RIP collar bones...And how many people here were going tooooo slow and then trying to bunny hop off a drop jump? recipe for disaster....as witnessed. Props to the first dude for clearing out that tree to prevent further victims!!
  • 15 0
3:09 - That wasn't a fail. That's just how a ninja gets off his bike. Dude should be proud of his dismount.
  • 9 0
Thanks for noticing! Walked away with a tiny scratch on my back and that's it - very proud \m/
  • 3 0
ya that was a beautiful bail
  • 10 0
The classic end the ride with a bin into the drainage ditch. Fitting end to friday fails. I wont be riding any wood features today as clearly the tree karma is in the trees favour today. Also broke the rule of not watching fails until after my ride ....damm it...
  • 7 0
A suggestion for PB: have an experienced rider take a handful of fails to analyze what went wrong. That way we can avoid making the same mistakes.
In the words of safety managers everywhere, “all accidents are preventable” Big Grin
  • 4 0
 You're new here, right?
  • 7 0
Get Ben Cathro to analize. Would be a laugh!
  • 3 2
bend your knees and lose the backpack and stop staring at trees and other obstacles you want to avoid, thats like 90% of Friday fails fixed
  • 7 4
@RonSauce: nailed it... Except for the pack. Carry water how you want dipshit. This aint style hour for most of us.
  • 7 3
@flaflow: its not about style, most places with big jumps aren't exactly backcountry, you don't need to bring a backpack. A backpack raises your center of gravity AND lets that weight move. Plus if you're gonna session a jump and film it, you can easily take the pack off, you already stopped to set up the shot.

I'm the dipshit? Are you the guy who was riding the little jumping line with a hydration bladder or something?
  • 9 0
"Are you okay dad?" is what i also will probably hear alot some time hopefully.
  • 1 0
Always what I'm afraid I will hear whenever my kid goes riding with me.
  • 8 0
And this has been another thrilling addition of "People Vastly Overestimating Their Abilities!" Tune in next week to see more carnage.
  • 8 0
 1:53 "You OK, Dad?"
"Yep, nothing hurt but my pride. Oh wait, is that blood? Oh shit, and my back. Call the ambulance, Junior."
  • 6 0
This video reminds me that the English language needs a word that combines dumb and clumsy into one word. Like, isn't there a word in German, like dumbsenfreuda? Or clumsyfracht?
  • 11 0
 Tosser. Yeah, tosser works.
  • 3 0
 Knalltuete ...in German Wink
  • 4 0
 Körperklaus! or even Vollkörperklaus!
  • 1 0
And that translates to 'Bodyklaus' pretty good Big Grin
  • 3 0
@mitO198, @themountain : Lmao, that is why I love ze Germans. They have words to explain even the wildest concepts Big Grin
  • 1 0
 Just „Horst“ will do it.
  • 8 0
That collarbone snap at 1:24 tho :-O
  • 3 0
Yeee-ouuuch. That arm is not responding.
  • 6 0
The last one....I wouldn't recommend falling off and flying towards a road. Ive never done it to speak from experience, it's just I don't recommend it
  • 7 2
I get flat pedals win medals and all that...
BUT it seems a lot of these crashes happen from a foot (or feet) coming off the pedals. Usually in mid air.
  • 16 0
 These guys clipped = death
  • 4 0
 @danielstutt: IDK
If it prevents the crash, no.
It's not like the are gracefully ejecting into a graceful roll.
When I have crashed clipped in, I pop out without really thinking about it. or realizing I had.
  • 1 0
@ReformedRoadie: as the guy at 3:09 that crashed from deliberately pulling my foot off the pedal, I see where you are going with this; however, I rode clipped in for a decade before this and can confidently say this crash in particular would have been worse clipped in.
  • 1 0
learning curves, they are a bitch at times
  • 4 0
 @schlockinz: Flatten the learning curve!
  • 5 0
I just love when people ask 'Are you okay?' before the body has even skidded to a stop.
  • 5 0
I thought for sure that last guy was gonna get mowed down by a car...that timely crash saved him!
  • 6 0
 2:42 bonk
  • 1 0
The sound is so perfect it almost seems added.
  • 4 0
2:28 sounds like a scene out of a Street Fighter video game....and like it fuggin' hurt
  • 5 1
This week was brought to you by Al-Qaeda: don’t worry about learning to land. The important bit is to get up there.
  • 2 0
So many stems in the nuts in this episode.....unnngg>

Really makes me appreciate that pad I had on my bmx stem when I was 5 years old and learning to jump.
Those need to make it on the mountain bike scene.
  • 3 0
There seemes to be a stron correlation between vests and fails. Any theories?
  • 1 0
Elbow pads and backpacks are hot. When you are new and not in actual "cyclist" physical condition and are overheating losing the sleeves on the shirt seems like the best compromise.
  • 1 0
2:41 -- that little rock has been it he landing of that drop all season. I've always wondered what would happen if someone nose bonked it lol (beallyoucanbe at Trestle Bike Park)
  • 2 0
Did the flopping day pass on the guys handlebar not bother anyone else?! I wanted to move it and I wasnt even the person riding.
  • 3 0
2:26 - Where was he trying to go?
  • 4 0
 Oh sh!$% .. Wuarghhhhh Wuuuahhhhhhhhhhhh
  • 2 0
That last one - damn. The crash was a blessing, given that the roll-out from the drop had two lanes of traffic.
  • 3 0
 ...put you seat down bro...
  • 2 0
The guy at 3:26? Every jump that guy rode off was almost a fail. It was only a matter of time before he ate shit.
  • 3 0
@kelpaso: He was so stiff he didn't even put his hands up when he crashed. Like he was frozen in place.
  • 2 0
3.26 he looks soooo out of control already that by the time he crashed it was a miracle he made it that far......
  • 2 0
Somehow I'm beginning to wonder if bikes and jumps are really a good mix...
  • 2 0
3:30 was he having a seizure while riding? His upper body looked so stiff/flexed/locked.
  • 1 0
Love the lift pass whipping around on the handlebar! He probably thought “I bomb this on skis every winter! How hard can it be on one of these mountain bicycles?!”
  • 2 0
Collarbone, Collarbone, Collarbone, nut shot, Collarbone, new wheels, Collarbone, lucky, Collarbone... painful one this week
  • 1 0
Am I the only one who ever gets left wishing I could see more of the aftermath to these crashes? Tacoed wheels, cracked frames, broken helmets, etc?
  • 3 2
So many of these could have been avoided by researching what the red dial on your suspension does
  • 13 0
 Instead of riding? Agreed.
  • 1 0
I’m never going to ride any bike with running shoes. All those poor sweet bikes!
  • 1 0
This Friday starts of strong and keeps on giving! I guess we all needed this after the election drama
  • 2 0

  • 1 0

  • 7 0
Handled with similar grace and decorum.
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
wow, some hard slams this week! i knew from the opening shot that i was in for a treat and boy was i right!
  • 1 0
LOL intro was just perfect! why people attend to jump with saddle sized as high as possible?
  • 1 0
 A pretty critical friday.
Next is vendredi 13th.... can it be worst ? !! Big Grin
  • 1 0
I'm no Super Bruni, but this weeks selection demonstrates natural selection at it's finest.
  • 1 0
Some of those were so brutal, I was wondering if trees and the ground can suffer concussions....?
  • 1 0
Hilarious as usual. Looks like some of these bikes may have come with an "eject" dropper post....
  • 1 0
So glad I live in the desert with no trees.....or vegetation, or any actual dirt. Frown
