Every year, for 28 years, mountain bikers from near and far have ventured out to Frontier Lodge in Nordegg, Alberta for an epic weekend of riding bikes, racing, camping, catching up with friends, and making new ones. This year was no different. No amount of rain or snow could dampen people's spirits, and we were treated to sunshine during all the right moments of the weekend. This weekend truly is the essence of what mountain biking is all about, and next year can't come soon enough!

It's at these family friendly grassroots events such as Fat Tire Festival, that the full effect that mountain biking can have on people's lives is truly evident. No matter who you are, where you came from, or what your skill level is, mountain biking has a way of teaching you things about yourself and grows traits within that will help carry you through the rest of life. That can be anything from learning to be confident in yourself, learning to be patient and develop skills through hard work and determination, or simply learning that exercise can be fun and exhilarating. In addition to personal growth, mountain bikes have a special way of bringing people together. Party laps with total strangers and shared high fives at the end of every lap turn into meaningful campfire conversations later on, and before you know it you're coming away from a weekend with some awesome new friends with some awesome shared experiences. You can't get much better than that!

And that wraps up another epic Fat Tire Festival...

I'm relatively new to the Alberta mtb scene and learning about events like this fire me up. Definitely have to check out more 'local' events like this in the future!

Awesome! Yeah there's a ton of mtb events and stuff going on in the province all the time, even fat biking events during the winter to keep the stoke alive all year long!

Went last year and it was great for the whole family. Was planning on going this year but thought it would be later in the summer like last year and missed it.

We'll have to make sure the word gets out better for next year in regards to the dates! Too bad we missed you this year!
