Fort William is one of the Fastest, Roughest tracks in the World. Hop aboard to experience Gee Atherton's POV as the Atherton Bike tracks every turn and makes short work of some very large rocks!
Gee has taken the World Cup win twice on this beast of a track at Nevis range, as well as 7 National titles - Watch him on a charge!— The Athertons
Gee's fast, wish he didn't use a gimble to record. The gimble is always a few seconds too late to turn and makes it feel like the camera is always pointing the wrong direction.
@JanB: Gee kills it but not a fan at all of this camera technique! Completely removes the sensation of speed and feeling like you're on the bike with him
I had the same thought, it's actually a 360 camera (without a gimbal, I think), you can tell by the weird defects where you can see the video being stiched together between the two lenses. It's also doing a weird thing where it's chosen a point on the horizon and decided to make that the center of the video, regardless of which way the rider is facing. I really dislike the effect. Kinda nauseating...
@trontondeel: But the alternative would’ve been a GoPro strapped to his head, which would flattened the track out too much. At least this way we could see more detail and watch the entrance/exits of the corners (in the same Gee would’ve been doing). I liked it.
It may be that he used an Insta360 camera, which allows you to keep the horizon in the same orientation (i.e., flat). It really shows the movement of the bike getting into the corners very well.
@conoat: I was just saying that to my friend while watching. Just goes to show how far above normal and world up rider is compared to us mere mortals. And the top riders are the gods amongst elite. All in all just insane levels of talent I could only wish to achieve.
@conoat: That right there is the terrifying part isn't it. You watch him FLY down there and think "He'll maybe make top20 in the next race".... Not an insult to him in any way at all, but a perception of just how fast the fastest of the fast are.. Crazy.
Ridden there a couple of times and it's brutal, not only to the bike but physically, your body takes do much punishment. He makes the lines he takes so easy, dropping into lines that have what seem like to me huge boulders.Yhink it took my friend and I 20mis to get down, but we were both on Enduro rigs. Plus knowledge of the track helps.
Holy crap! To think he probably was just cruising too and to think there're guys faster! I'd probably go 1/20th that speed, crashed 20 times and been wheel off in an ambulance going down that.
The longer they've been around the more I've really though the athertons were awesome. Dan and Gee were always big sending shredders that were cool but the way they stick Together and are successful as a brand Together is really neat.
Rode it on my mates DH bike and cause it's heavier than my Enduro bike I was having to hold it back a bit and your arms are screaming as well as your legs,so like you said holding on takes some effort. Two maybe three runs is all I can manage.
FA Cup final had a crowd last weekend too and that's in London... The country has vaccined the f out of Covid and yet no Fort Bill. Skewed rules, basically.
First time I rode it was on a 100mm hardtail. Took me 45min! Last time was on 170mm coil front and rear and it broke my bike! Get up and ride it, it's amazing and amazingly rough

I too have eyes in my belly button!
