Riding Half Nelson at the end of the BCBR is just about the most overwhelming joy I've ever felt in my life.

I was riding up the climb ahead of it with a local, who warned me "Hey, be careful. It can really throw you far and lots of people end up wrecking their first time."

I took her advice... for the first little tabletop.

I've never been on a trail that made you feel like a far, far better rider than you are like Half Nelson did. Riding it blind for the very first time, exhausted after 6-days of riding, I felt like I couldn't do anything but find perfect flow.

Have you ever actually involuntarily yelled for joy? I honestly don't know that I had before that moment.

My only regret is not staying in Squamish for a few days of more riding after the race. As soon the border's open again, that's where I'm headed.

definitely agree. that trail is so good. i get that it's "just a blue flow trail" but it's so much more. That trail cemented my opinion that Squamish is the greatest destination for mountain biking anywhere in the world.

yes, Dr. Park in Crested Butte is awesome (probably #2 in my opinion)
yes, Slickrock in Moab is iconic

but if I could only ride one trail for the rest of my life, I'd pick Half Nelson, and I wouldn't even need to think that hard about it.

now if we could just get the a-holes in the US to wear a mask, so COVID could be over so that we can travel to BC again?? pretty please?

BCBR was the most fun I've had in a sports vacation, ever. Full stop. And I echo the comments on Half Nelson AND Squamish in general. incredible postal codes for mtb. We did a 10 day mtb vacation the summer before BCBR to understand the kind of terrain we'd deal with. We had done Sedona a few years before and a lot of spots on the East Coast but man, Squamish is a whole different league (BC overall, but especially Squamish).

We WILL go back. No doubt about it. It's just too good. And BCBR is a repeat for our 40th birthday as a group (all friends from way back in high school). I'm 37...can't wait to age. Wink

Why Leave of Absence and not Rupert? Rupert is even more difficult and I think it would be a fun challenge.

The last time Rupert was included a third of the field walked

I really hope this dream becomes true next year.....
