If you've seen Kranked 8 then you know that Kyle Norbraten is, "Straight Outta PG" and likes to "party on the trails." It's no question that the trails you grow up partying on can have a huge impact on your riding style and even skill level. Kyle grew up riding the trails of Prince George, BC before moving away to pursue a career in mountain biking on the Sunshine Coast of BC. Since that move about 10 years ago, Kyle hasn't had the opportunity to revisit the trails that were instrumental in shaping his riding career.

The riding areas and trails in Prince George have evolved immensely since Kyle moved away. With that in mind we reached out to see if he would be interested in coming back to Prince George to film and ride the trails that helped him get to where he is today. Kyle was stoked and we had three productive days shooting "Straight Outta PG" as well as the behind the scenes piece below.

bigquotesI have a complete respect for everything mountain biking in Prince George because I probably wouldn't be where I am without it.Kyle Norbraten

Kyle brought his signature style to every section of trail we filmed on.

Morale was high and everyone was positive and productive despite the relentless swarms of mosquitos. Next time we'll rethink before scheduling a shoot during peak mosquito season!

With this project we really wanted to bring the viewer behind the scenes to see what goes into making the content we all consume daily. Here Daniel gets an update from Kyle during Day 1 of the shoot.

Blasting down a classic PG line seemed like the perfect way to end the 3 day shoot.

And that's a wrap!

PG is just outside the top ten for most dangerous Canadian cities, so Norbs is lucky he didn't get robbed.
  • 3 0
actually its ranked 11 for 2017 and was voted #1 dangerous in 2011 and 2012

 Priceless!!

Often referred to as “the armpit of BC”
  • 11 3
@theedon: Correction: referred erroneously as that. It's a great place, with a good bike community and well above average trail network.

I make joke. Funny time. @ldhbaker:

@theedon: All them pulp mills are stanky!

there s no dangerous city in Canada , but I got yer point Smile )) since he became so E V i L , robbers fear him , guess he s not Special (ized ) anymore !
  • 2 0
@theedon: Chyeah. lots of people make jokes about PG, and so it necessitates defending.
  • 4 0
That's why PG riders are so fast - always getting chased by dangerous criminals on the trails!

Seriously - great community with great trails. Guys like @ldhbaker made a huge difference to the riding community here!

@juicebanger But I get the feeling it wouldn't be the first time

But he's on an EVIL bike...is that even allowed on Pinkbike?!

There's been a discussion over at VitalMTB how much hate does PB has on Evil.
  • 2 0
@chyu: Why is that PB! Haha
  • 6 0
I have a Weckoning so there is my bias, but I'm so curious about the behind the scenes hatefest between PB and Evil Bikes. Don't you think it would make a great investigative article?!? Maybe for NSMB or Vital MTB?

So I have a bed with evil. I took a risk and bought an uprising after they had had all their famous issues years back. They talked big about how supportive they would be. When I we t to sell the frame to try something new, the person I was in talks with contacted Kevin Walsh directly. I was told that Kevin Walsh basically said don't buy that used frame because they have improved. Tried to talk a kid out of buying one of their used frames. So much for being supportive. Makes it hard for me to want to ever support them again...

Fine down vote it. Maybe they did finally change. But they sure as hell didn't appear to stand behind it when I gave them the chance. It is fitting to see ethirteen parts that also don't hold up to real world abuse...

 evil >>> specialized

@chyu: Can you tell us more? Like what happened? First time I hear about this...

 "Hey Steve, you know John?"

"Yeah, but we don't hang out much."

"Oh, Steve and John must hate eachother!" -Every PB user speculating on this

Yo what's the deal with this PB/Evil thing? Did I miss something lately in the news?
  • 1 0
@MCMbiker: Nah, you missed nothing. PB just missed an entire popular brand of bikes out of their content and reviews...

A rare sighting of an Evil in a pinkbike feature.

What is the world coming to?

I grew up with Norbs in high school. We were on a mountain bike team. At 15 he's dropping off schools and doing suicide no handers while I'm watching down below on a Rocky Mountain Soul XC bike with Magura hydraulic rim brakes. I'd take my seat off completely to race downhill against other schools! He rode the shit out of his old Santa Cruz Bullet. You knew right away he was going to do this for a living. He breathed it and lived it daily. He's an inspiring person to have around from PG and I'm glad I got to watch him evolve growing up

  • 5 0
@hardyk: I know many who would love to see a new Undead/ Evil DH bike
  • 1 0

 pause @ 3:02 . . . no internal dropper inlet
  • 3 0
Definitely the new Imperial. They're calling it the Imperial MTT (More Top Tubier)
  • 2 0
@bman33: i heard there is one in the making who knows
  • 1 0
Probably is the new Insurgent LB based off the IG pics they released, wish it was a new Undead though.
  • 2 0
 @zemaniac: www.pinkbike.com/photo/16182712
compare that to what you see at 3:02... not even close. Gotta be something new.

the rear is totally different too. Definitely NOT a Wreckoning.

@nuttypoolog: Those screen shots look shifty. That a Proflex?
  • 4 0
 @bman33: 856 all day!
  • 2 0
@nuttypoolog: yeah, he's acknowledging that it's a different bike because of the lack of the dropper eyelet that is currently on every evil bike
  • 1 1
@nuttypoolog: we're on the same page here
i assume Insurgent / Wrecker / etc will have an option for an internal routing

if it's not there - could be a new DH sled

or just a frame before post drilling

Pumped to see my town on PB. Loads of work has gone into the local trails and it's great to see them getting some recognition.
  • 5 1
This is where I started riding, 1998-1999. Pidherny, Sprockids at Otway, the cut banks. Was a rad place to learn how to ride bikes, wouldn't be who I am today without PG. Should probably get back up there one of these days.
  • 4 0
Do it! The place is awesome.

People rip on PG but having grown up there, it has every resource you need without the traffic jams of the lower mainland. I was fortunate to have grown up a year below kyle and watched him progress. You knew this was his destiny.

Still one of my favorite segments of all time..

Mandatory watching at the first shop I worked at.
