Snowdona was a bummer. But on a positive, folks who paid for only one day got their day, sort of on Sunday. Those who paid for three days got screwed. Wouldn't go again unless they moved it to later in the year.
It does looks like a great event to demo bikes and ride. That sucks for people who did not get to ride and/or demo bikes. Moving it later would be better.
@jrocksdh: I'll be dead before you can collect, and I have no next of kin. The ice age will come, but the sky has been falling for millennia. THE SKY IS FALLING!!!
My biggest gripe was how adamant the organizer were about “no refunds, THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT” and then they canceled one of the days because of weather.
@AppleJack76: Wife and I have attended each year for the last 3 years. Every year has had at least one day lost over weather. Others I spoke to said this has extended back at least 5 years. It finally happened where we lost the entire event. It's obvious that, global warming be damned, early March in Sedona is a crapshoot at best. I sent the organizers an email stating I'd never be back as long as they continue to insist on keeping this schedule. Hoping other emails follow.
Last couple of days in Sedona its been about 85. In a few days it'll be highs of mid 60's. 'Spring' weather in AZ is a crap shoot at best. But by May things will have settled down for guaranteed warm to hot for the next 5 months, then we go back to not as hot as summer.
A brilliant and funny video from start to finish. Try living in Yorkshire, you can't plan much here without accepting it may be cancelled or muddy or whatever so you plan for the worst. And, it looks like everyone was having a great time anyway. That amount of snow in Arizona at this time of year is a rarity, i imagine. But they could have a plan B to move it lower down from the 4000 odd feet it's at if it snows heavily. Albeit, i don't know if it was also snowing as heavily lower down? Props to the ladies who rolled up their sleeves, too.
Dude, Sedona is "lower down" for Northern Arizona. To get below 3k, they'd have to drive 2hrs south and run the event in down in the Phoenix basin. Major snow accumulation in March may not be the norm for Sedona, but altitude & average temps mean you can't rule it out either. If I were the organizer, I'd seriously consider pushing the event back a full month.
@powturn: See my comment above. The only somewhat safe location for early March seems to be Tucson and even that isn't guaranteed (they also got snow that weekend) Wife and I spent the weekend riding in Cottonwood (Dead Horse SP) which was surprising dry and even decent riding. Early April would be ideal for this event.
@powturn: don’t bring it down here. Although this was the most fantastic winter that I can remember in a couple decades, I wouldn’t ever count on the weather in March not killing a percentage of people flying in from the cold places. It hit 98 today. It still takes me a while to remember to start drinking enough water about now even after 30 years here. It is a dry heat and it wants to kill you.
That's the most Canadian thing they've had in some time. I really enjoyed it!! The weather has been really messed up the past few years, but I don't think this event has gone through this before. Let's see what Sea Otter has to deal with.
The festival was destined to fail from it's first year. Bad weather will continue to haunt them early in March. There's no excuse to not move it into April....NONE. The event is a joke when the trails are running rivers.
Their entire "How to be a..." series and the music vids like "Faster Than You" were pure gold, but the voice-over for this one: fingernails on a chalkboard. I'm rooting for IFHT to return to form that will make me laugh that hard again, but yikes, this is not the way.
I initially had that disappointed view when watching this. But then I realized they probably had a bunch of thing planned for humor in this video, and it was all wiped away with the weather situation. So they had to come into this starting from scratch, getting sideswiped with being unprepared for improvising
