bigquotesStage 1 practice lap. With colder temps and more 'rain' forecasted, I am expecting this to have a lot more snow for the race on the weekend. Jesse Melamed

I went by the finish of stage 1 this morning. It was soupy. Riders were absolutely soaked and mud covered. Pretty hard surface for the first stage. Some of the other stages less so. No snow. Heavy rain yesterday and all night and raining less hard all day. Kudos to all the racers today. Ugly conditions. Those Norwegians that say there’s no such thing as bad weather, just shitty clothes, are wrong.

When your good clothes don't help you know the conditions are real harsh.

Question for Jesse (if you're listening) - did you find the snowy bits up top any more slippery than if they were just wet? Or was it just a mind game (snow=slippery, must be careful)? We rode 1/2" of packed snow Wednesday night and it was amazing how grippy it actually was, but it was tough to get my mind to keep believing in the grip (the roots were slippery though, so had to be careful for those).

It's just better because snow means the ground is a little harder underneath so it grips really well. When it's just muddy or wet it's a lot more slide-y.

The follow cam of Remi was crazy, it gives a whole different feeling of the speed. It's always good to see how the local trails are supposed to be ridden. Minus the slop of course. Super mean to have that Highline climb on the clock, I assumed it was going to be transition when I saw the course route.

are you changing anything on your setup or tire choice when there's that much pedaling?

No doubt EWS at Innerleithen was good practice for this race..
