Video: Leaving a Positive Impact After a Race with the Swiss Enduro Series

As the dust settles and riders make their way home after a weekend of send, skids and shenanigans, it can be argued that enduro races leave the trails of a destination a little worse for wear. But, in the minds of the Swiss Enduro Series organisers, this does not have to be the case. So, SES teamed up the trail building experts at Trailworks to overcome this challenge and leave a positive impact for all to enjoy.

An enduro race undoubtedly has an effect on the trails of a destination, some positive, some less so. New, interesting lines are often discovered but deep ruts and fresh brake bumps also make an appearance. No matter how well the trails are marked, this wear and tear is to be expected as over three hundred riders embark on a two-day trail degustation. Such an increase in traffic will more often than not reveal a trail’s “weak points”. In Trailworks, the SES organisers found a trail construction partner who not only knows how to deal with the effects of mother nature but also how to snuff out any man-made flaws. Water management plays a big role. Building and maintaining an effective drainage system ensures water does not excessively erode the trails. Without escape channels in key locations, water will run down a trail creating ruts and holes that are then exacerbated by users. If such weak points are corrected after a race and trails are properly maintained, they become more fun and enjoyable for the masses.

Destinations that do not have their own maintenance crew will find the targeted measures of Trailworks indispensable when it comes to keeping trails in optimal condition. With this initiative, the Swiss Enduro Series and Trailworks want to show how races can have a positive impact on the trails of a destination and how trails can be developed sustainably.
