The Legends of Dirt series, produced by SilverStar Bike Park, returns for its second season this summer. Episode 1 features Jacob Tooke, 19-year-old Enduro Athlete, as we dive into his goals, dreams and what defines his flow state.

“I started riding as early as I can remember, I was building jumps and doing tricks where ever I could. Growing up in Banff there was plenty of amazing single-track riding, but I looked forward to coming out to SilverStar most of all. Riding down blast off for the first time was just indescribable; having never ridden anything like that before, I couldn’t believe how good it was.

My Dad and I travelled out six times to ride the summer before we finally moved here in 2011. Since that time, I have been riding as much as I possibly can, rain, snow or blistering hot, always challenging myself to go that much faster. I’ve definitely broken a lot of bikes but I just love to ride.

While still pretty new to Enduro, in 2016 I managed to come second in the overall Eastern BC Enduro Series, and fourth Nationally, earning a spot on the Junior National Team. I was racing in the Garbanzo DH race at Crankworx last year.

The season has been awesome! I have been feeling stronger and more fit than ever before. I have been super happy with the consistency I have found throughout the national series, other than the occasional mechanical or crash, the races have gone well for me this season.

Last year I was able to earn an athletic scholarship to Quest University. With Squamish in my backyard, I could continue training and competing at the World Series level. I feel so lucky still be able to call SilverStar home, and try to make it back whenever I can.

I can’t wait to see what comes next and keep pushing myself.”

SilverStar Bike Park is maintained day in and day out by our expert Trail Crew. They have managed to check off many items on their checklist this June, and early July, before the dirt dried out from the Okanagan Heat. With that being said, our crew is consistently maintaining the trails in order to keep the park running smooth.

The benefit to having a moist spring at SilverStar, is our dirt creates a crust, keeping the trails running comparable to pavement. With the battle of the Okanagan heat, our Trail Crew is continuing to focus on areas where sun hits the most by smoothing out bumps, soaking with water, compacting it down and re-soaking for optimum quality.

Anticipation rises toward the opening of our newest intermediate cross-country trail, Wine Bottle. In hopes for a late release in the 2018 season, this new addition to our bike park will tie into Cork Screw, making a figure 8 loop and can be ridden both ways.

As we near the end of our summer season, we are thrilled to release more Legends of Dirt content, continue producing a quality bike park for fellow riders alike, and bring to the table more content to indulge in.
