Skateboard legend turned mountainbiker Mark Partain is joining the Loose Riders family. 57 Years old and not showing any signs of slowing down. Mark Partain has been living the life for a long time. Once a fulltime skateboard pro, now digging and riding bikes everyday.—Loose Riders
I’m going to turn 60 this summer. Still building trails on Cypress ( North Shore). Still riding the North Shore double blacks. You have to keep moving, especially as you get older. The only time I really feel old is when I pass a mirror !
Momentum with age is the truth. Had a family friend that was still kite skiing (no not that modern social media style shit, the type on a stars n stripes handglider with no harness and 800 foot of cable behind a ski boat) on the fourth of July at age 83 just a few months before he passed. Keep on moving at 99.8%...100% you won't last long, but better than 0% and decaying. Keep getting after it!
Dammit pinkbike! First you post a videos of a bunch of children who ride way better than I do. Now you post a video of a guy twenty years older than I am who also rides way better than I do! Sheesh!
Ya, my self esteem was struggling after the grom video, but hey, I'm older and have adult responsibilities. Its ok. When they get old they will slow down too.
Then this video dropped.
A friend of mine died a couple years ago in a car crash. He was only 33.
The summer he died, he watched me wreck hard off of a decent-sized drop with a janky entrance (got hung up and wound up nose heavy on the landing, hitting the stem with my chest took the longest to heal from) at the start of a big group vacation trip. It ended my riding for the weekend and took a month to feel right again on the bike.
The night of the wreck around the fire pit he told me that if he ever got as old as me he hoped he'd be going as hard as I do. I think about that almost every day.
Love it! My oldest student was Fred Schmidt, he was 78 when I coached him and he went on to do the Leadville 100 in under 12 hours when he was 80. You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing!
my pops got into dh at... 57? hes in his mid 60s now and I think last season was when he started clearing moon booter on a line every lap. every time we ride hes faster and sending everything bigger
@hangdogr: At 46 I joke that I have 4 more years to turn pro... It's never going to happen because I don't have the time or motivation, but I am committed to improving my technique and getting faster! I do plan on racing Enduro in the 50+ category...
@commentsectiontroll: I hate that shit man...I got mates making fun of me for still wearing flannels and vans at way past 40...Let alone the bike thing...I've come to realize, we just live in different worlds...
So Rad!
Here in the UK I go some many of my mates I have skated with all my life who also ride and push just as hard as we did skatin!!! we all still skate and ride most of us over 45 and 50 but give it hell everytime we shred.
Keep pushing Mark!!!
You don’t stop skating cuz you get old, you get old cuz you stop skating. At 43 and still riding all the things that go fast and get air, this guy is a f&$king inspiration! P.S. Skate or die.
Mark Partain....I had his Blockhead pro model board when I was just a skate rat at 14 years old......now he’s almost pushing 60 and still shredding harder than me. Way too cool
@cteichert: That's pushing it..Voreis does table 3s and bonks vertical off trees ... Fast plant 360s amongst a bunch of other crazy shit..Don't get me wrong This guy shreds hard..
Had no idea he rode MTB. Transitioned from skating to MTB at 54 and still riding over a year later at 56. Glad to see an 'old guy' sending jumps. Most of the time I'm riding jumps with much younger riders because most riders my age don't jump at all or do very little. I'm not talking huge jumps either. More like the jumps at Kanuga, Riveter, some at Santos, Alafia and Carter Road in FL.
I remember looking up at that crazy Mark Partain deck at 5 Points Skate n Surf before grabbing an ice cream and a skate session behind Vons. That was a long time ago!

You're never too old to send it.
You’re too old for this Eddy
True! Haha!!

Hope we can meet this summer or the next when travel becomes more easy again.
Keep shreddin’..!!
