Video: Maribor World Cup Recap with the Fox Suspension Team & Racers in Episodes 15-21 of 'Dialed'

Aug 17, 2021
by FOX Factory

It was a wild week in Slovenia, as athletes battled intense heat, a treacherous track and a stacked field of competition. Tune in as the Dialed crew follows along with the world's best as they attempt to tame their bikes, with the help of the Fox suspension team, on a fast, dusty, and revamped track in Maribor.

Half of the Fox team makes it to Maribor, and Vid Persak is there to show them around.

bigquotesIt's a very unique place to ride, and I think it's an awesome place for a World Cup. It's going to be hectic on Sunday, I'm telling you guys. -Vid Persak, Orbea Enduro Team

It's a slow day in Maribor, and the teams are continuing to arrive. Bernard Kerr and Jake Scoynes recall memories from past races here.

bigquotesMy first ever World Cup was here, and I didn't qualify, I was 84th. But, the following year it was the second WC I qualified for and I got 13th (in Qualies) and I was pretty stoked. I actually crashed and got 34th or 35th but was still pretty excited, because that was my best WC result at the time. -Bernard Kerr, Pivot Cycles

With one more laid back day in Maribor, we asked the Fox team some of your questions, and barbecued with Pivot.

bigquotesWe're just kind of setting everythign up, organizing everything, trying to get it all sorted, so tomorrow morning we're ready to go with a productive work day. -Jordi Cortes, Global Race Department Manager

We follow the Pivot team on track walk in Maribor, while the Fox team works through servicing on their busiest day.

bigquotesSo far, the changes are awesome. (In the past) we've asked, 'take the track 6 feet right or left' and they've done it, which is cool because the track has been here so long, and it's been the same line over and over. -Bernard Kerr

It's practice day in Maribor, and possibly the hottest day of the week. Let the puzzling begin...

bigquotesPretty much everyone we've talked to today when we asked them about the track, the first thing everyone said is that 'it's a really fast track'. So, as long as the weather holds out, I would say we are going to be in for a really exciting race on Sunday". -Jake Frew, Dialed Videographer

It's another hot and humid day in Maribor. The athletes try to keep cool as they prepare for their qualifying runs.

bigquotesIt's pretty hot. It's already 35 (C) degrees at 9:45 in the morning, and it's only going to get hotter. As temperatures pick up, oil gets thinner, speeds pick up a little bit. I guess slowing down rebound is a theme today, because of the heat. -Jordi

It's finally race day in Maribor, with plenty of success stories.

bigquotesWe're just setting the bikes up faster...firmer, stiffer! More compression, more air. There's just getting bigger holes (on the course), and obviously they need to go faster. It's race day! -Jordi

Would love to see Loris come to Fox's pit for a chat or two !!

And tell them he’s faster on Rockshox suspension??

Dammit, it took watching nine of these to realise they’re social good-timey fluff, not technical illuminating vids. Perhaps a disclaimer?

There’s no secret sauce. Loris Vergier won the pro men class this year on Rock Shox with Trek won same race last year (twice) on Fox with Santa Cruz. Fast people are fast regardless of what’s holding the bike up.

@DHhack: Not necessarily. There are plenty of examples of people getting slower and faster when changing teams and frame/suspension sponsors.

But he kept the same Maxxis tyres hidden under a marker pen @DHhack:

*mostly social good-timey fluff. Admittedly there are a lot of these videos with little technical insight in them, but now and then there's some good in it. I think it would be better in the shots where racers come in with feedback and questions if Jordi explained what and why he was making that adjustment.

Most people don't have access to telemetry and even if you do the riders feedback is key to getting it just right. It comes down to how that specific rider deems is a good set up and what they want out of the bike, the numbers just help speed up the process and highlight what is causing the feedback the rider is feeling.

More rider feedback and adjustment explanations on the 'puzzling' episodes please!

Great i see them all good content from fox, but the main idea that I take from these videos.. the syndicate mechanics and other teams mechanics do not have enough knowledge to tune a suspension, even with telemetry runs.. it´s like they need a magic wizard to put a click down on compression

Who has time to watch all these videos? The last episode I saw was back in the first season. There is just too much content on the internet these days.

It does cut in to my ebike commenting time but I make it work.

Not all of us are as busy as you are with all of those clouds that need to be yelled at.

Agree, I picked 3 of these.

EP19 is where they start talking to riders about settings. Definitely more interesting then the fluff in the earlier videos.

This wasn't nice of Jordi (about Jackson Goldstone). To the camera when Jackson is gone "He's not the best with suspension stuff and tracking what's going on." Just before that, Jackson: "What did you change?" Jordi: "Everything".

@vinay: It's maybe a bit rude, but it's true. Jack is fast as hell, but he's still a kid. It takes quite a lot of time to understand all the suspensions/tuning stuff. It's the same in Motorsport, kids just ride ad fast as they can and it's the team that has to sort out all the rest.

@flowisforpussies: Yeah, but if he asks you what you did then tell him. This way you keep him fully dependent on your services. He should at least be able to replicate it if he has another complete bike at home.

We're also getting an edited version of the conversation. A day's worth of interactions edited down to 5 or 10 minutes. Jordi will usually drop some nerdy technical bits in the videos and in some videos the tech can get really nerdy. Personally, I wish these videos were a bit longer but the shorter format seems to be what Jake and the Fox promo team want to do.

Watched like three of these videos and there was no riding. Didn't watch any more.
