Video: Marshall Mullen Rides the Specialized Turbo Kenevo at the OG Rampage Site in Virgin, Utah

Oct 10, 2018
by Long Nguyen

The Specialized Levo was the first ebike I owned. I remember after the first week into riding it, I thought an ideal ebike should be an aggressive long travel enduro bike, with a dual crown fork. This idea was not feasible at the time. However fast forward to a year, the Kenevo was released and I knew right away that this was the bike. I received the Kenevo early on and although challenging, I put a Fox 40 on the front, a Deity cockpit and a new set of Carbon Roval Fattie wheels to help shave some weight off the bike.

When I built up the Kenevo, I knew I wanted to take it to Utah. I had some doubts in the beginning just because it was an e-bike. But everywhere I went, nothing seemed to hold it back. The bigger I went on it, the better it felt. I knew the potential was there and we had to try it.

I was blown away after we completed this project. The Kenevo handled the jumps, drops, and loose terrain Virgin had to offer. It is one thing to have a bike that performs on downhill and drops, but when you have one that can also handle climbs, that’s different.

This project really opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of my Kenevo. I think the future is bright.

 Looks like a ............f*cking fun day out Smile

 Yep. Rode up, did many more runs and therefore had much more fun. Await the haters (which always give me a great laugh)....

 Just buy an mx bike and be done.

 It's entirely different from mtb and moto. Sure wish people could wrap their heads around this idea.

 Well!! To be honest I always wondered why they were no more DH e bikes... if there is one place where they make sense to me is in dh. I spend years pushing a DH bike up as I do not have the luxury of Uplift assisted mountains... got tired and used only the enduro bike now... but if I could get to the top of the DH trails and do DH runs with no uplifts ... makes perfect sense to me!

 Nah Enduro makes plenty of sense too. DH bikes excell mostly on proper DH tracks, and not everyone is into this every second day of the week. Then why would you carry the motor to a bike park. Fuzua kind of stuff is the future.

 @WAKIdesigns: Of course enduro bikes make a lot of sense. I love being out in an enduro, trail or XC bike.I just miss the Full on DH runs... but I don't miss at all having to walk up the mountain 30min for 2 minutes runs... and E DH bike could help massively.

 @enjuto: yeah. The thing is we need more of bike equipped with these Fuzua units where you can easliy remove the motor and the battery and you end up with a normal bike. I don't fancy taking motor with me to the bike park. I am also fit enough to use smaller battery and motor.

 @WAKIdesigns:
Understand, I didn't knew anything about those Fuzua and they look really good, quite versatile. but i do like the concept of a full on Dh E bike more than a E trail bike, as i dont have any access at uplift mountains.

 @enjuto: i meant Fuzua for DH bike this time around. Cheers!

 @listeryu: yeah, what is HE on about?!

 @clarky78: yes absolute idiot

 @WAKIdesigns: Yes, when will someone reduce the assistance/size/weight and make a 16kg ebike? I don't want an MX (not legal on most trails in NZ) and i don't want a 22kg Bike, but i do want to get back to the top of hill faster to get more runs in without shuttling or using a car!

 Riding rampage uphill... i feel provocated.

 Let's say, "provoked" Smile

 That's what E-MTBikes are meant for. Please don't bring them to bikepark lifts nor ride them downtown for shopping with a kickstand. My goodness.
  • 5 4
 Whats the problem with bikepark lifts and ebikes?
  • 1 0
 @Bubzreh: why using a lift, when the lift is build in the bike already? Redundance uphill shuttle crazyness Smile
  • 1 0
 @Lasse2000: So in need 2 expensive Bikes? One for shuttling my Hometrails/Bikepark without a lift and one for the Bikepark with a lift? Rip 10000€
  • 2 0
 @Bubzreh: yes.
  • 1 0
 @Lasse2000: Simply remove the battery when shuttling or lifting.

 This is heresy!

 Expected to see more uphill if I'm honest

 well..fuck

 Yeah this ones a no from me
  • 9 8
 That drivetrain sound is just annoying...
  • 3 1
 So V8 motor sound is much better? Or helicopter sound? Still don‘t get it why everyone at pinkbike loves freeride vids with big trucks shuttling uphill or backcountry heli rides, but hates on ASSISTED uphill climbing with a tiny e-motor?
  • 1 0
 @Lasse2000: You dont understand and you never will understand stone made heads Thats why
  • 2 1
 Hell yeah Marshall, F*k the haters. I'm loving the Kenevo!!

 Would it not void your warranty putting tripple clamp forks on your Levo?

 The massive step up looks like great fun.
  • 4 7
 Not mountain biking so why’s it being posted on a mountain bike website? Again f*ck you pinkbike for making this enter my sphere of influence. Seriously just start a sister site for ebikes like gmbn did.
