We knew it was gnarly but those last few hits are easily some of the worst hits I've seen at World Cup racing! Looks like there's a camera over that area but let's hope we don't see more of this on race day.
@Triber66 and @mixticius I read that but it doesn't say that there banning helmet mountain cameras because it kills people. Sense when has someone died from a helmet mounted camera?!?!
@spinningaddiction It all started after Michael Schumacher's skiing accident. They believe the gopro mount caused the helmet to fail and not do its job properly. Didn't die, but is still recovering nearly 2 years later. A snowboarder did manage to impale himself on the pole holding his camera earlier this year also which resulted in his death. Not saying I agree with the UCI, but there is actually logic behind that rule.
Actually @mountainyj, "they" don't believe that. His 15 year old son said it, and that's the only source. There is no logic behind the rule whatsoever, and in typical UCI fashion, is a complete overreaction to press and public hysteria.
Quite right @redrook, there's absolutely no evidence to suggest that a gopro mount has any impact on the efficacy of a helmet. Schumacher would be dead without his helmet, as it is he was just going so fast and had an incredibly hard impact to the head. All this helmet efficacy nonsense is a giant red herring.
@redrook "they" believed it enough that they made a new rule over it, and it caused enough question to have ENSA test the helmet and situation under which it failed. And the crash had been described as "moderate speed" not "extremely fast". Did the helmet save his life, probably. But the way it failed raised the question, "did the helmet do its job to its maximum potential, or was it hindered by a foreign object between it and the rock?" Never said I agreed with any of it, but that is THE incident that prompted the UCI, who we all know is notorious for making rediculous rules for no apparent reason. @rbeach
@mouainyj Yup and people, even the almighty UCI, will claim to believe anything if it is the popular consensus. The fact that the only real source for the un-evidenced allegation was his teenage son (who I have no reason to believe is an expert in the field, and who was also a near-bereaved relative looking to blame something) should lead us to disregard the idea immediately unless actual evidence is provided. "That which is claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence".
yeah there is, but it looks rocky and they would have to pull to the left up a hill to miss the padded tree. Huck to flat ftw. This is bryceland's game.
I really really really hope the live stream covers this corner. Its always hit or miss with the coverage and this track has no filler its flat out the whole way so I hope they brought A LOT of cameras.
the French love a bit of tech in their trails but these crashes are out of this world, how many of the top 10 riders will be injury free after this race!
A snowboarder did manage to impale himself on the pole holding his camera earlier this year also which resulted in his death. Not saying I agree with the UCI, but there is actually logic behind that rule.
might have to late apex the turn at the bottom of the chute but id rather lose a couple tenths than become a vegetable. (due to my gopro)(not).
then again im not a ranked dh racer so what do i know hahaha.
(but, yes, it might be a revenge ! (héhéhé)
2 - you just surrender to fun ;]
But Man, that track is as hard as beaches of Normandy back in the days!
