Hop on board for a lap with Steven Walton and Nik Nestoroff down the second US DH National of the year here in Mountain Creek Bike Park in Vernon, New Jersey— Nik Nestoroff
Would be interesting to know what led to that behind the scenes. Either the series is rejecting west coast venues or none are pursuing a race. Both would be interesting.
@Blackhat: basically if you have more than one event at a venue it just takes away from the race series already there with the current state of dh racing.
@Blackhat: a lot has to do with who owns most places that could host a solid DH race in the Rockies and west. Mostly all Vail which doesn’t do crap anywhere stateside for biking. Tons of support for Whistler but anything south is left hanging. It’s a bit of a bummer And then second is that sometimes race organizers aren’t that respectful of things at a resort and don’t exactly get welcomed back.
But that being said it’s rad seeing the Downhill Rockies series start and more DH popping back up out west!
@schofell84: motorcycle guys do it with little complaint (in several disciplines). Personally I feel the SCCA’s approach of several separate regional series with a big national event at the end for the points leaders from each region would be a good fit for where DH is now in the US.
@stormracing: I wouldn't say they have provided tons of support to whistler either most of our infrastructure was hear before vail took over and since then all vail has wanted to do is to dumb down the trails here to make it more family friendly
could be worse, we don't have a national series here at all. Some of the best young talent in the world but no one to race against unless you drum up $20k and go to Europe.
Yeah, seems the switch away from the pro GRT meant no more races out west. There used to be 2 associated with the NW Cup. Usually one at Tamarack and one at Dry Hill. Didn’t seem to bother people competing for series points then.
Karma from when it was all West coast a couple of decades ago and the US kept sending guys from SoCal to World Cup races and wondering why so many did so poorly when it rained or when a root showed up on course (with a handful of notable exceptions).
@joehowlett55: dang, that’s as bummer to hear. Expected but still a massive bummer to hear. Sounds very much like them. I haven’t been to Whistler since they got bought out but have been wondering what I’d see when I get back there.
Also they bought a great resort here in Colorado, took the approval from forest service to expand that the previous owners had gotten, threw it away, open the bike park later, shut it a month earlier, and nearly doubled the prices. Massive bummer
Love the reference to Action Park you got in there. The loop the loop was crazy - did it a couple of times before they closed it (and then closed the park soon after). Would love to ride the bike park now for a bit of nostalgia.
They have been using the same track pretty much for like 12 years little changes but nothing major i stopped racing because they never chage tracks things get so repetitive..
@pisgahgnar: Timmy has been using the same comment pretty much for like 2 posts little changes but nothing major i stopped reading because he never chage punctuation things get so repetitive..
He just messaged me this “@pisgahgnar: Negative nacy wow.. u dont live close to mountain creek obviuos... if u went to every east coast race at mtn creek u would know they havnt changed much in 12 years ...do u even go to thursday race league at creek ??? it funny how 2 people say neg but i have like ten people agreeing with me lol.. what a joke u think ur special or something ..send me ur real name so i can see ur race times on rootsandrain if u even race ??? I won Races cat 1 at mtn creek so easy guy”
The best race track they have follow under the lift half way down the mountain theres huge natural gaps and rocks galore and big steep rock slabs i dunno why they always use this course its like they dont think more people would come if they changed things all mountains do the same thing pretty much..i know alot of people who stopped racing because of this
