IN THE PAST

Spending the last 10 years on snow trikes was a journey in itself, now it was time for a new path and exploring new places.

For years, we used to be fully focused on riding snowparks, adapting our bicycle tricks to the snow. Since we never had the opportunity to ride any Fest-Style jumps, the easiest way for us to get similar air-time was to hit the Pro Lines in the snow parks. Although those snow trikes are a little different than normal mountain bikes, it never bothered us too much.

TIME TO MOVE ON

Riding the SMX always felt special, and it still does. Over the last 10 years, a lot of things have changed. Getting a bit tired of those everyday-hustles that come with riding ski resorts, I slowly started fading away from riding SMX.

I felt the allure of the mountains - silence and an escape of the everyday routine. When paragliding entered my life, I started seeing things differently. Every free minute spent in the mountains was filled with hiking and climbing the most remote places I could imagine.

After a while I figured that I missed riding SMX. When Hillstrike came up with prototype powder skis the spirit came back - I started dreaming about combining my passions and taking the SMX to those unknown places.

 Talk about a niche sport.

The two ski bike things, feel like riding a shopping cart...that trike bike ski thingemmebob looked to handle like a bike? I'm all about making a jump, to play and learn in the snow. Winter sucks and I snowboard...but I just want to ride

yeah it does, i have one and they are very agile! can do lots of tricks on it

Super rad, but I think the hefty ass snow trike is unnecessary. I remember those North Legion SMX trikes being pretty popular 10 to 12 years ago, but since then there’s so many better systems for getting the feeling of mountain biking in the powder. Companies like SkiByk and TNGNT make ski bikes that look a lot like a normal MTB, and then there’s “snowscoots” from companies like Jykk and Velvet that sorta like like a hybrid of a BMX and a snowboard. Either one of these would be a hell of a lot lighter tame simpler than what this dude has strapped to his back.

Regardless, sick video. I feel inspired.

Why don't you take a proper lightweight paraglider? Carrying this Sigma(?) seems just like the wrong tool for the job. Apart from that it's a beautiful concept of combining sports.

wow I didn't expect anybody on a MTB Plattform actually recognizing my wingWink you're right, a lightweight wing would make more sense, but the Sigma is the only glider I have in this size (with is actually way too small for the extra weight of the bike btw, but I don't have much of a choice anyway Wink

@mgtraildesign: I guess at least congratulations for not dying are in order....
Great video!

I had a chance to use something like that several years ago... not at a ski resort, just near my house on some local hills -- they're a blast... the one I tried was kind of heavy so, getting it back up the hill wasn't easy. highly doubt any of the ski resorts would allow those otherwise, I might try to make one (I have the resources to do that). ha-- this year, winter (snow) sucked... I think we had a whopping 4 inches

Why would you want to work until you retire.....Technology has given us the ability to play with the only rule I follow......Gravity
  • 3 0
how does one not work until they retire? that is the definition of retire Smile
  • 1 1
@savagelake: Most people think they are going to enjoy life at retirement....I don't see many 60 year olds doing this. I live in a blue-collar part of the country--so my vision may be a little skewed--so retirement just means you are going to the hospital and Florida your last few years.

 @kymtb0420: love what you do,
You'll never "work" a day in your life!
Nice video project, turns well earned.

 Well that was different.

Seems to me that idea is good, but amount of stuff you have to carry is only real problem hear?
  • 4 0
 yeah, we hear.
  • 1 0
 Can hear you from here.

Also: I've spent quite a bit of time watching kiteboarders... and that sport just blows my mind. Surfing/wakeboarding is hard enough, then adding the complexity of managing one of those kites... I guess you get into it by taking lessons, but we sometimes talk about mountain biking as an "elite" fringe sport with a high barrier to entry. It's got to pale in comparison to kiteboarding or sports like what's in this video.

Dunno what it’s like in the Alps, but smx are no longer allowed in Scandinavian pistes

What happens if you fall off this bikeski thing?
  • 3 0
You end up laying in the snow with the trike dangling on the end of a leash.

Now I really want to buy a SMX. Tho I have no idea how I will handle it when going on the chairlift...
  • 1 0
works on a chairlift, you just have to sit on the smx and the chairlift goes under the smx seat..easy Big Grin
